How did the graduation go?
It went well. She wore her bright yellow heels with her black robe (Batman colors). :rotfl: Most of the speakers were good and brief. It began at 7:00 and ended by 9:00. Best of all it was in a local church, a very big one so that we didn't have to drive far and was able to go out to dinner afterward with family and not eat too late. The band played the processional and at the end which was nice, no piped in music. She got to say a last goodbye to the directors and a lot of her underclassmen band friends. She'll see them again at the 4th of July parade, alumni can march with the band, but it won't be the same. It was a ticket only affair so we only had 10 tickets, not all the family got to attend but that's okay. We are meeting for lunch today in Dallas.

Now we're on to a flurry of parties and the Mesquite Rodeo tonight, after which she alone will hit some more parties.

My favorite song of all time is probably What A Wonderful World. I think that is the name.

Sounds like a busy time for you, yet fun. Hope everyone drives carefully.

How far in advance do you plan for parties?

I know that I over do it when it comes to planning. Yet I am happy that I do so that I am organized for the most part, and know what is going on. My kids combined birthday party is coming up in less than a month, so I need to really get things going again with that. And, during their regular birthdays, we will do things for them as well to celebrate their special day.

I will most likely be too tired tomorrow night to post a QOTD since we are taking our visitors around. So here is the QOTD for Monday.

*Do you enjoy roadtrips? Do you make it a point to do something special at each state, stop, trip....?

Here we are on graduation night. Don't you just love Carol's red eyes? :rotfl: They are such a strange color that turns slightly yellow. She's been asked frequently if she were a vampire. :lmao:

Depends on the party.

Love them!

School is offically over, and it is now summer vacation for my daughter. I need to think of activities, projects that I can do with my kids at home. Not big projects, but things that I can just do with them daily instead of them always watching t.v., playing games....they do read, play outside, water fun.... but I am still looking for ideas. So, today's QOTD is-

*What sort of activities could I do with my daughter who will be 7 in Sept., and my son who will be 3 in Aug.?

Patsy, how about simple cooking--you know, things like Rice Krispy Treats, decorating cookies, dipping pretzels & marshmallows in chocolate, making pizza? I used to do stuff like that with my mom, now I do it with my nieces, they love it. It was also a tricky way to learn math & reading because as I got older my mom started teaching me to bake. I had to use math to work with the fractions & amounts in measuring & I had to read to follow the recipe. I still love to cook! and my nieces love it too, in fact we're going to attempt to make our own pizza dough.

Nice picture Susan. :goodvibes
Thanks! I went back to photobucket and edited out the red eye. Now she looks like she had two black eyes. They are actually a greenish hazel.

Cook, go on a nature hike in the park, look for different leaves one day, flowers the next, bugs, birds, etc. Do you have a library or museum close by? Go get a snowcone or ice cream cone. I wouldn't do something every day, just a time or two a week. That way it will be special. If you can, have a girl's day or just a couple of hours. Once your little boy gets a little older, maybe plan a mommy time with him too. What do you have around where you live?

Thank you both for those ideas. My daughter, and I do actually cook together, and she does enjoy it. My son also likes to help us. But, I will need to think of more recipes that we can make.

A little of both. If using a recipe I get all the ingredients out first, but I am a little messy when it comes to measuring. (especially if its flour) However I keep a paper towel down so if anything spills it is there to catch it, then when done just throw the towel away.

I have learned to be a more organized cook! I also clean up as I go more now because I don't have as great amount of counter space in this kitchen as I did in my big old Victorian house kitchen since we moved here 3 years ago!:confused3:sad2::laughing: Cooking in this kitchen has been a HUGE adjustment!:laughing: Especially at the holidays!!:scared1:;):rotfl:

I'm organized, but very, very messy, especially when I'm on one of my infrequent baking binges. I tend to make a big mess, but put all the ingredients away as I go. Then leave a mountain of dishes to clean up afterwards. dzee, I feel for you, with your lack of counter space. I live in a house that circa early 1950's and the counters prior to our renovation many years ago were only a foot wide (I'm not kidding!), but I've had to learn how work with it, and the kitchen reno we did 8 years ago really helped with the counter space issues. But a small kitchen is still one after the best of renos, and you just learn to live with it. Have a great day everyone!

Trish

I drink a lot of water, a lot. But when I get sick of water then I will drink a diet soda, preferably diet Dr. Pepper.

I hate, hate, hate coffee and though I will drink tea I rarely ever do.
