When do you start passing out and/or mailing out your Christmas gifts?

This year I am hauling all DS and DIL presents down to AZ with us.
The rest to out of state relatives will be mailed the last week of Nov.
We pass out presents Christmas Day to those here......with one being opened on Christmas Eve.
I give my friends theirs when I see them. Sometimes early Dec., some times early Jan.

We don't do a lot of gift giving anymore. My husband's side of the family does a Chinese Christmas exchange. I give out special Hallmark ornaments commemorating New Home, 1st Christmas, etc. If any of these go out of town, I mail them the first week of December.

On my side of the family we buy gifts for needy children instead of each other. I do purchase gifts for my only niece and nephew on my side since there is only two. But since they are both in college, a gift card is the best thing for them and I give it to them when I see them, usually on Christmas Day.

What is a Chinese Christmas exchange?

If you were to go into an antique shop, what sort of items would you look for? And, if you were to purchase just one item, what would it be?

I used to love looking around antique stores. Unfortunately, older breakable things don't mesh with two active, running around the house boys.

The only safe thing would be a flat top trunk.

What is a Chinese Christmas exchange?

It's where everyone brings a wrapped gift (ours must be brand new, never used, worth $20). We each draw numbers, the person with #1 picking one of the gifts first and opening it. Then the person with #2 can either steal #1's gift away from them or pick an unopened gift. If #2 chooses to steal #1's gift then #1 gets to pick another gift and open it for all to see. Then the person with #3 can either steal #1 or #2's gift or pick an unopened one. Should #3 steal a gift from #2, then #2 can choose another unopened gift or steal from #1. Gifts can be stolen up to three times and then it is locked in with the last person who steals it. This can cause quite a bit of strategy to come into play. This game can be wrapped up fairly quickly or go on for quite a long time depending on how many people are playing and the number of "wanted" gifts in the mix. We call it a Chinese Christmas but there may be other names for it.

If you were to go into an antique shop, what sort of items would you look for? And, if you were to purchase just one item, what would it be?

I like to look for things that I remember my grandmother having in her house. Not to buy but just to see what they are currently going for. One thing I do like to look for and have found two are fairy lights. They hold tea lights and look like little lamps. I usually find them in sets of two and since I only want one, I don't purchase them. I have a blue and a pink one. It's fun to look for and I'm not in any hurry to have a huge collection of them.

I like to look for old, ornate china tea cups and saucers, and sterling silver dining room items.

Maybe a dolphin, whale or manatee but I'd need a bigger yard, a huge tank, and a staff to care for it and teach it tricks!

Definately a tiger, preferably a Siberian or white tiger. I'm a cat person, and you can't get a bigger cat than that!!

We had gotten a new upright freezer today, and it has alot of space, so I am baking more banana bread to freeze. So, today's QOTD is-

If you owned an upright freezer that had alot of space to keep things in, what one grocery item would you stock up on, and what one main dish, side dish, or dessert would you make alot of to put into your freezer?

I wouldn't own an upright...love my chest freezer.
Stocked with meat, bread, veggies and desserts are ice cream, cookies

We do own a large upright freezer and have for years. (Can't believe it is still going strong. It must be 20 years old and never been serviced.)
Not much of one to bake and store. But I do like to buy from Omaha Steaks when they have sales and store those. I don't stock up on anything as I have been burned enough times in the past with electric going out for too long due to storms or whatever. Up north, if in the winter, people have the option of sticking their items outside. Here in FL ...
I do fill it up with water during hurricane warnings.

We have an upright, but it is not a very good one. It is always defrosting itself. Have a huge pile of ice on the bottom that I need to go take care of soon. So I don't store stuff for the long haul. Just pizzas that don't fit in my side-by-side frig.

We don't have an extra freezer but if we did we'd buy a side of beef to put in it.

Wow, brrrrrr. Come on over. You can go to the beach in the morning to get a tan, and take a swim in the ocean, then join us for our Thanksgiving meal, on Thanksgiving day.

I've never owned a stand alone freezer, so I wouldn't know what to store in all that space! I would stock up on Breyers ice cream when it goes on sale! And I would make big batches of italian wedding soup and freeze it in there too. Aside from that,
