I have had many situations where I followed recipes in cookbooks and it didn't turn out, so it ended up in the trash.

I usually follow a recipe the first time and then through experience ;) can adapt them to what I want.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
Sauce
1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/3 cup rice vinegar
2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 cup plus 1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon minced water chestnuts
1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
1/4 teaspoon minced fresh garlic
1 teaspoon chopped green onions
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
5 teaspoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons arrowroot
Chicken
4 chicken breast fillets
1 cup ice water
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups unsifted cake flour
Vegetable oil for frying

Combine all ingredients for sauce--except the cornstarch and arrowroot--in a small saucepan over high heat. Stir often while bringing mixture to a boil. When sauce reaches a boil, remove it from heat and allow it to cool a bit, uncovered.
Slice chicken breasts into bite-size chunks. Remove exactly 1 cup of the sauce from the pan and pour it over the chicken in a large resealable plastic bag or other container that allows the chicken to be completely covered with the sauce. Chicken should marinate for at least a couple of hours. Cover remaining sauce and leave it to cool until chicken is ready.
When chicken is marinated, preheat 2" of vegetable oil in a wok or skillet to 350 degrees.
Combine cornstarch with arrowroot in a small bowl, then add 3 tablespoons of water. Stir until cornstarch and arrowroot have dissolved. Pour this mixture into the sauce and set the pan over high heat. When sauce begins to bubble and thickens, cover and remove from heat.
Beat together the ice water and egg in med. bowl. Add baking soda and salt.
Add 3/4 cup of flour and stir with fork just until the flour is blended into the mixture. The batter will be lumpy.
Sprinkle another 1/4 cup flour on top of the batter and mix with only one or two strokes. Most of this flour will still be floating on top of the mixture. Put the remaining flour (1/2 cup) into a med. bowl.
Dip each piece of chicken first into flour, then into batter. Let some of the batter drip off and then slide the chicken into the oil. Fry up to 1/2 of the chicken pieces at a time, for 3-4 min., or until golden brown. Flip the chicken over halfway through the cooking time. Remove the chicken to a rack or paper towels to drain.
As the chicken cooks, reheat the sauce left covered on the stove. Stir occasionally.
When all the chicken is done, pour it into a large bowl, and cover with the thickened sauce. Stir gently until all the pieces are well coated.

I have been married today for 7 years...so today's QOTD is-

For those of you who are married, how many years have you been married for? And for those of you who are single, what are some of the criterias that you are looking for in a SO?

*Also, I just posted the SNACK EXCHANGE sign up, so come and check it out.

Happy Anniversary Patsy.

John and I just celebrated 21 years in May.

Happy Anniversary

DH and I celebrated 24 years last June. We are planning our 25th anniversary trip to WDW.

Good Morning all! Happy Anniversary Patsy.

For those of you who are married, how many years have you been married for? And for those of you who are single, what are some of the criterias that you are looking for in a SO?

As I am soon to be single again :woohoo: my criteria for the next lucky SO :rotfl: would be as follows: he will have to  everything Disney :tinker: , he will have to treat me like a princess: , he must love :coffee: (esp. Starbucks), must have a great sense of humor :rotfl2: , not overdo the :drinking1 , enjoy the :beach: and make me feel like I'm on :cloud9: . Must be young at heart  but mature and responsible.
I think all those qualifying might already be taken :sad2:

Have a happy Wednesday!

Happy Anniversary Patsy!!!

DH and I celebrated 16 years in May. We want to do a vow renewal for our
20th. But in 4 more years my oldest DD will be 19 so there is always a slight chance we'd be planning her wedding instead.:rotfl: I was 19 when I got married so I always remind DH about that..."Ya know hon..she could be legally married in 3 years" to which he replies "Shut up..don't ever speak of that again!!!":lmao:

Kimba

Yeah, like not speaking of it ever again is gonna stop her if she wants to marry. :rotfl:

Next month will be 31 years for DH and I. We are celebrating by going to Disney. :lmao: We are spending a night at Vero Beach. We have not been there or in that area at all, and have lived in central FL 3.5 years.
Really looking forward to the stay! :woohoo:
:yay:

Thinking of Vero Beach and the possibility of daily FL thunderstorms made me think of two other possible exchanges:

* Anything weather related
* Anything vacation related

The weather related could be anything from clothing (rain gear, sunglasses) to an outdoor thermometer.
For the vacation we could have participants mention any place they hoped to visit in the near future, even if a local beach or camping.

Have these been done before?
What do you think?

we will be celebrating 10 years of marriage near Christmas, but we have been together exclusively for 17 years  . Congratulations to all our married exchangers, and to all our single or soon-to-be single exchangers: Keep looking! The Prince meant for each of you IS out there somewhere. Pixie Dust will guide you in time :tinker: !

I don't think either has been done.
I like the vacation one, but I guess some destinations could be tricky.
Are you thinking about hosting, Barbara? I have a couple of vacations coming ;)
Or do both.....separately of course. It will keep you busy for a couple weeks...or months ::yes::
