Usually we do from scratch stuffing at the big family dinners, but, since we are not going anywhere this year- nor is anyone coming here- It's stove top for us! :lmao: I am the only one here that will eat it, so why take the time and make that huge pan just for me?

There are two QOTDs today. One for Turkey Talk, and another that my daughter came up with.

Turkey Talk:
*What type of main dish do you have? Turkey, ham, roast, seafood.....?

Shayla's QOTD is-
*If you were to receive an ornament, what type would you like?

For the main dish we usually have ham or something weird like pot roast. we rarely have turkey, thanksgiving is not a big holiday for our family.

Good question about the ornaments! :) I'd love any Harry Potter ornaments to further my collection along, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer because its my favorite holiday movie and I have started a collection of those as well. Anything Disney Princess or something having to do with Broadway musicals. I also like monogrammed things - a big, obnoxious, bedazzled K would be right up my alley :rotfl:

This year is my first year putting up a tree in my own house and so I don't really have a theme, I'm just throwing a bunch of ornaments on there of things I like :)

We always have turkey, and sometimes also a ham.

I love glittery, sparkly ornaments, and also ornaments that my DSs would enjoy. :goodvibes

For Thanksgiving, we have turkey and ham. One year, a long time ago, we had chicken.

What type of ornament would I like someone to give me? Something simple and small, about 2" tall. Maybe a frog or a pickle. :rotfl:

We are having Turkey! I love turkey..... yum!

Ornaments- I love them all! I have a Harry Potter collection too..... and I have a love for silly ones. Just any random ornament is usually up my alley. This year, we haven't decided how to do our tree yet though.... Davy still tries to steal them all off the tree, so we may go with cheap ones again this year and keep my good ones for later years.

You could hit the dollar store and pickup some cheap ornaments, so that if your DS decides to play with the ornaments it's no big deal. I put my good ornaments away when the kids were younger and did the tree the dollar store way until they were old enough to leave the tree alone (However the greyhounds are another story!). I tend to like handmade ornaments, or something unique that catches my eye. Collected Hallmark ornaments for many years, but have since lost interest in them.

I really enjoy non dated Disney ornaments, especially the Mickey head ones, and ornaments that moves or does something. Those are the ones that the kids, and I enjoy the most.

We did our tree in only blue and white ornaments last year for that exact reason! We may do it again... my hubby likes the color combo, although I like multi colored stuff. But we got all the ornaments the year my son was born, at 50-75% off, knowing what was ahead! lol :scared1:

I went over to my mom's today and we made out our menu. The side dishes we are having are:

stuffing
jelled cranberry sauce
mashed potatos and gravy
green bean casserole
cooked carrots
sweet potatos

I usually receive 50+ cards and send out 75 to 100. This year I might do a letter though instead of a card.

2nd QOTD-How many Christmas cards do you usually receive for Christmas? Do you send out alot of Christmas cards?

Well this year is going to be a little different, usually we go to my grandparents house for t.giving but since my grandpa died :sad1: we are only going to my dads' side, which is HUGE so we'll have, among other things,

rolls & butter
green bean casserole
sweet potatoes with brown sugar and marshmallows
crescent rolls with honey butter
mashed potatoes
2 kinds of stuffing
probably a random vegetable tray in there

its a pot luck type dinner so people bring all sorts of things but thats what we usually have

My christmas cards usually range from 10-15 to send out and about 10 to receive, but this year since I have my own house and wont be included with my parents I will probably send out 20, not counting the ones for the holiday card exchange , and will get about 20 here

This year will be:
Stuffing
Green Beans
Asparagus
Cranberry sauce
Sweet potatoes
Dumplings/gravy
Sausage Balls (more of an appetizer)

I will send out, including the card exchange, about 30 cards and receive who knows how many. Usually it's only about 10 at most, but you never know. We may get more cheer this year! :goodvibes

Sorry to hear of the loss of your grandpa.

For Thanksgiving, we make the traditional items, and my relatives bring different dishes to add. My friend :goodvibes sent me a can of sweet potato so I am going to try, and make a pie using it. Deciding if I should use a store brought pie crust or make one.

As for Christmas cards, I send out over 100, but do not nearly receive that many back. I know that if I do not send out cards to certain people, they would question me about it. But, do I receive one from them, ah nope! Typical double standard.

Turkey Talk:
What do you use....yams or sweet potatoes, and how do you prepare them?

QOTD Part 2-
Does anyone here scrapbook or do paper crafts? If so, what type? -I had put together a Cricut die cut exchange if anyone is interested in participating. You can cut die cuts out for others, or request them, and send something in return to the sender.

I thought yams and sweet potatos were the same thing, just like hanovers and rutabagas. :confused3

Sometimes we bake a sweet potato instead of a potato for dinner. I've never cooked with sweet potatos any other way. But I do like sweet potato pie. Maybe I'll have to make one sometime.

I don't scrapbook.

Sweet Potatoes.... I don't think yams grow where I am. As in the technical yams.. here in the south, the name is interchangeable.

I love to scrapbook, however I am not so fortunate as to have a cricut.... :sad1:

Turkey Talk-

How do you prepare your turkey? Do you brine it? If so, in what type of mixture? Do you use an oven bag? Does it work to keep your turkey moist?

I use a LOOK turkey bag that I put some carrots sliced in half, celery, and a couple of onions at the bottom. I place the turkey in the bag on top of the veggies. For the seasonings, I put rosemary, sage, savory, majoram, sliced fresh garlic cloves (at least 5 to 6) into a small jar and add olive oil to fill it to the top. I leave this in the fridge overnight, then when I'm ready, I pour this over the turkey once it's in the bag. Seal the bag, and the veggies that the turkey sits on makes a really nice gravy once the turkey is cooked. Don't stuff the turkey, just put a whole peeled onion in the middle of it.
