$ Exchange Rates

hi all, i know our banks are closed today so couldnt get a new updated price for the dollar so had a looksee on the travelex usa site.....

today the rate for dollar to pound on thier usa site is almost 1.99!!!

now i dont know how that will compare tommorrow when our banks open given that marks and spencer where giving 1.76 as of saturday ..but i would hope that perhaps the 1.80 dollars to the pound might be close or the good old days of 2 dollars to the pound.......

where not flying off till july but buyying some already ...since its way better than the 1.4 rate we got our last visit in 2000

cheers

That's great news. I bought my MNSSHP tickets on my nationwide credit card. Let's hope the rate is high here tomorrow when the banks open and I will get a better rate than I thought. Nationwide give the official rate on any purchases made.

Maybe now is the time to buy my universal/sw tickets. Will wait until tomorrow.

I would add that this time last year the dollar hit around 1.90, but then towards the beginning of June it started going down again to an offcial rate of around 1.80. Then it was downhill all the way until Christmas.

Ulster Bank today 1.8074
which works out at 1.7894 allowing for the commision.

Now where shall I spend it

Thomas Exchange £1.79 and Travelex £1.7736. With the comercial markets going up again about 1 cent today the retail rates should reflect that tomorrow. :cool1:

Brilliant! thanks for the info :thumbsup2

The Travelex online rate is 1.7831 this morning. It's hard to know whether to hang or not. I'm getting a bit greedy now!

$1.806 today with Thomas Exchange. Surely I should buy now for August. So often in the past I have waited and sure enough the rate has plummeted. Its hard to know what to do.

:rotfl: Me too! I am toying with paying for my Disney holiday today or waiting to see if it goes over 1.80!

I think it might be worth waiting until tomorrow ;)

Just bit the bullet and ordered £1k from Travelex online at 1.7831, but they will price match Thomas Exchange at 1.8059, so I should get about a fiver back. It all counts!

I'm keeping the rest of our savings for the minute to see what happens to the rate over the next couple of days. We have so much wedding stuff to pay for, even a few cents here and there makes quite a bit of difference.

Good luck everyone :sunny:

Dont forget that the Federal Reserve meeting is on May 10th. If they raise interest rates, then the dollar rate could fall again.

I would buy now - think if the rate is above $1.75 then that is pretty good, not too many years ago it was $1.50.

We tend to buy a bit at a time, and mostly have got just over $1.70.

Here we go again, the annual, will it hit the magic 2 or not debate!!!

Still trying to convince my hubby that going to WDW is the best thing we could do this summer.

We are are at the complete mercy of the exchange rate just before we go in October when we can only then afford to buy, but even if there is a small interest rate increase is shouldnt drop much below $1.70 i hope by then

Fingers crossed

Not much use to those of you in England but I read that the Ulster Bank were offering $1.822 to the £ yesterday. Might have to pop in there methinks :)

Don't know about your local branch Joh, but here in Coleraine the Ulster Bank will only deal with account holders as far as foreign exchange is concerned. I get round that by noting their rate (which is usually the highest among the local banks) and then then hightailing it to Thomas Cook who will either price-match or come pretty darned close to it! :teeth:

Comercial rates up again today which should mean most FX companies offering over $1.80. Thomas Exchange already 1.812 today with Travelex at 1.792 but also offering price match. Announcement by the Federal Reserve on wednesday could make it even higher or peak, fingers crossed for those of us going on holiday and not trying to sell to the US. :thumbsup2

I lost my nerve and paid for my DVC yesterday - $13,200. I reckon , with the commission out I'll end up with about $1.80 on my Amex card (my Nationwide card hasn't landed yet and won't have enought credit anyway!). I'm happy with the rate but I can absolutely guarantee that now I've bitten the bullet, there'll be two dollars to the pound next week! ;)

I am hoping for 1.80 jsut to get a little extra to spend
