Since Monday, the tourist rate seems to have dropped by over 5 cents!!! We can't afford to buy right now. Does anyone know what the 'experts' are saying will happen?
I'm starting to panic, I was really looking forwards to a good rate for once.
TIA,
Ian

It seems some strong US economic data is leading analysts to believe that US interest rates may rise sooner than expected. Of course, these were the same analysts who just two months ago were predicting $2 to £1 by the summer.

This week the £ has taken a bit of a bashing but UK data due tomorrow could swing the balance yet again. However, I'll be surprised if we see the highs of February repeated anytime soon.

Bottom line, nobody has a clue.....and at that, opinions change with every new economic report that comes out. Fortunately, I bought my $$ two months ago, but if I was buying right now I think I'd be happy to take anything above 1.75 - JMHO, and I'm no expert.

Good luck.

Im no expert, but I have been watching closely for a few months now.

I finally relented the other day and got 1.78(my second lot of currency). At that rate im still a happy person.
I do need to change up some actual dollars, but im going to leave that on the off chance in the next couple of weeks it may go up again!

Its swings and roundabouts at the moment, I cant see it hitting the magic $2 mark, which they were all predicting!!

DP is not happy with the $ at the moment.
I keep thinking we should of bought when the $ was good.
But you never know, hopefully it should rise.

I want to buy both travellers cheques and cash - I was going to order off travelex whilst it was at $1.78 but I think i can only order travellers cheques 60 days before my holiday and that isnt until August. Is this right? to get a better rate should I order just cash?

Thanks!!!

As long as you can collect them , then you can have travellers cheques. I already have mine for November. I suppose it depends on how far you are from the airport.

Pretty sure travellers cheques don't have an expiry date (as Lynda pointed out). I'm going to order mine from M&S. Just not sure when though...
$ holding at $1.73, not dropped today...

Just heard on the radio that the pound has gone up by 2 cents because of the lowest unemployment for 20 years and good economic results. With an interest rate rise due soon it should get stronger...but who knows!!!
