Excess Baggage

Hi

:thumbsup2

Last year when we went to Orlando, we pre-booked extra baggage allowance with TCD.

This year we are flying with Thomsonfly, who seem to want to charge £99 per person for an extra 10kg (according to their website), which to me seems very expensive.

As we are staying in a Villa this year we will have laundry facilities, so intend to actually take less luggage with us.

BUT - does anyone know how much it costs for excess baggage if we go over our limit on the way home. We fly back from Sanford. Does it depend on who the carrier is, the airport or what??

Please can anyone help.

:grouphug:

The airlines all set their own prices per kg. I have been known BA to charge over £30 per kg on the Far East/Australia route! So £99 for 10 kgs seems okay to me.

I have seen BA charge some woman £220 for excess baggage last time we flew home from Orlando International!

I can remember being told by a Thomas Cook rep - that they would charge $10 per kilo at sanford airport, if the luggage was over-weight. But I'm not sure if it applies to all airlines.

The schedules such as Ba and Virgin charge 10% of the basic fare per kilo you go over, ie, fare costs £400, you're 3 kilos over hence charge of £120! the charters have individual policies.

Thats not exactly correct for the US routes with VA as they determine baggage allowances by the piece and therefore the excess baggage rate is per piece and coming back from Orlando it is currently $115 per piece.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the schedules were/are 2 pieces of luggage per person with no piece over 30kgs ( manual handling regs so they can refuse anything over 30 kgs as the baggage handlers are not allowed to lift it) so in our case that is 180 kgs of luggage between 3 of us & that's some serious amount of souveniers!! A few years ago we were over with First Choice & the operator let us away with it but I believe that they have really got tight with this due to ever increasing fuel costs!
