EXASPERATED...how do you handle questions

JillU.....that is too funny about your father! :p

Talk about going from a basher to a backer in one fell swoop! I have to think that you have a nice little smile inside every time you think about how right you were to ignore the rants and raves! :)

And I'm going to rip off that hotel answer too. I always start with "it's not a certain place at at certain time", but the hotel analogy makes it pretty simple to understand.

I don't handle folks likie that very gracefully, I'll admit. I'd tell them "You obviously are going to believe what you want to believe whether its correct or not. If you want correct information call Disney yourself."

I really don't have patience for people who act like they want to know, but then try to tell you you're wrong. I think its just a really stupid way to act out their jealousy. They are trying to make you look like an idiot, but making it more and more obvious that they are the idiots themselves!

And, yeah, I could stay at a hotel for what I pay for DVC....but not a deluxe resort every year, and not a place with a full kitchen, washer and dryer and whirlpool tub. And I could easily go to Hawaii on my points....if I wanted to go to Hawaii. I don't.

I knew I could find good advice here! I especially like the idea of explaining that we pay with points instead of money...everyone can understand that!

One major reason why I felt so secure in my purchase of DVC was because of the existence of this board...I will be rewritting my will tonight...leaving you all one DVC point each...

(just kidding...I'm taking my points with me to DVC heaven...I want to stay right on property there too!)

Thanks again!

My Dh tells everyone it's like using play money, yeah right.......

PAMOKW-ROFLOL-my world exactly! No one believes it's really in WDW, just a stone's throw away from Epcot (BWV) or a boat ride from MK (VWL). They just don't get it!!!!!! And we get the same line too....so what week do you get? ARGH!!! We just tell people now that it's very complicated. Truthfully no-one really cares and it's a waste of time and effort to try.

We took family last month(all expenses paid) and they really didn't act that impressed, in fact quite contrary. GREAT NEWS!!! Little do they know, they're not being invited back!

Oh, I can't believe it! I feel so bad for you after you spent time and $$$$ (not play money!) to take them on a trip? Did they actually complain? What's their gripe? What would it take to impress them?

We don't use the word timeshare, which tends to keep the "which week" questions down to minimum. We use the "prepaid vacation" idea and move from their to points.

Thanks, but it's just another one of life's little lessons. We actually even added on 150 points to be able to do this with current and borrowed points in addition to our other points. This cost us a small fortune and we are pretty much out of points for 2 years. It was obviously not their cup of tea and they really had no appreciation for what they were given and I don't just mean the all expenses part. To us Disney and all it represents is a magical time to do magical things that you cannot do anywhere else. We used our points and gave them a 2-br while we took another studio. A 2-br is not cheap even just considering the dues alone and we never even splurge on ourselves with a 1-br let alone a 2br. I won't go into all the details but they would have been happy doing nothing but sit on the balcony and smoke all week. It was really the kids who missed out. We will go again and again but I'm afraid we cannot afford an all expense paid trip again for them and would never waste our points since we did not feel they appreciated Disney and our DVC accomodations, or anything else for that matter. It was almost like they did us a favor by "letting" us take them. I'm sure any hotel that was decent would have done. The best Kodak moment was when we went to see if they were all ready to check out and much to my horrified eyes, the room was trashed. They had dirty dishes everywhere, and had picked up nothing, I was mortified. This was just the grand finale to what I chalked up to a bad decision to try and do something nice. I was so upset all I wanted to do was leave and never see these people again for the rest of my life, my relationship is bacically ruined now. They never even left a tip because I asked! I was so embarassed that I took them there. This is our home and everyone else here, and I am only too glad that they did not come to my real home, certainly not that this was ok. We have seen abuse as well as abnormal wear and tear in the units we have stayed in and have a hard time understanding how people let this happen, now we understand, we are related to one. So for the protection of ourselves and other concerned DVC'ers, we will only invite those that we know will respect our DVC homes, ummmm, that would be just us. :D

Msdis,

Don't feel so bad...a lot of us DVCers have had the "never will I invite you again" type guests. Been there, done that, never again.
