Since people often ask what are chances of getting things late, I thought I would just report my most recent experience. Called yesterday (about 3 1/2 months out) for first week of August (for a relative considering going), not a real high DVC demand time. Could easily get anything at SSR or OKW. At others, and asked about studios, 1BRs and 2BRs: (a): AKV savanna studios available (both Jambo and Kidani) but no other room sizes or view categories unless I wanted to waitlist for 3 to 6 of the nights depending on category (in other words all the 1 and 2BRs went before studios); (b) VWL 1BR available for 7 nights if I would move start date up one day but nothing else unless wanted to waitlist for 4 or more nights; (c) BWV, BLT, BCV -- nothing unless I wanted to waitlist for 4 or more nights.

I called two weeks ago (4 months out) for an August 8-15 DVC reservation for a 2BR. There was nothing available for all nights except at SSR and OKW. I'm including VB and HH in that since that was where we started out wanting to go.

There were a couple nights here and there at other resorts, but at least 5 of the 7 requested days would have had to be a wait list. And usually they weren't consecutive days.

I was really surprised, except for the OKW and SSR part. I guess mid-August is getting more popular with DVCers to now. :confused3

I booked Aug 7 - 14 BWV studio (about 10 days ago) but was told it was the last one. The day before it was not available when I was calling for options. There was 1 bedroom VWL and of course OKW and SSR the rest were split stays. I was hoping to get her 1 bedroom but BWV for 7 nights will be great for 4 girls just graduated HS.

I booked a quick weekend trip today for August 7-9 in a VWL studio. Was surprised it was available, but very pleased. Had to check out the Main Street Electrical Parade before it heads back out west! ;)

I was in CA over Christmas and on a whim called MS on Dec. 28th and was able to book a studio at GCV for Dec. 30th. Worked out great...we did DL rope drop to closing on the 30th, crashed at GCV for the night, and enjoyed the resort the next day.

I think that's the best example yet. :)

I called April 15th and got a studio for my daughter for three nights at AKL starting May 15th. She said that I could book at Boardwalk, Beach Club, OKW, SSR or AKL for those dates.

DD is going down for the CP Alumni summer program so I also needed one night on August 17th before she returns. Same thing we could pick any resort we wanted.

Booked a savanna studio for my best friend and i for a girls trip without the boys last week for the last weekend in june. I was stoked about that!

Hi drusba,
Thanks for starting this post and thanks to all that replied with similar stories. Availability for a late booking is a very common question that gets ask, so it is interesting to get some real feedback on it. Thanks again for sharing. :thumbsup2

One thing I did notice when I called is how much better it is now to find out whether there are available rooms: (a) old computer system took forever because each request for a resort had to be done separately and they would come out whatever screen they were in and then start another request for another resort and wait for that one to come up; (b) system now is I just asked for any studio, 1BR or 2BR at any resort and fairly quickly they were able to give me a run down for each resort on all three room sizes.

I called mid January 2010 for a late Feb/early March trip and SSR, OKW and AKV studios were available including savanna views at both Kidani and Jambo. I had my pick of the last two weeks to the first week of March for most 7 night string of days and picked Kidani to try out the new resort and loved it.

I emailed over the weekend about availability for June 30 -July 2 (Wed-Sat). Only availability was OKW/SSR and larger unit at VWL. I ended up booking a cash ressie instead at Ft. Wilderness ( Cabin). We live in Orlando so I will invite my daughter and her family from Tampa to come over and BBQ during the afternoon on Friday then we'll see the Main Street Electrical Parade that evening, weather permitting. Due to work they are only available Fri-Sun and I'm only off work Th/Fri so I'll head over Wed after work. They'll probably drive home Friday night but can crash in the cabin if they want vs. my paying weekend points for a larger villa. I had originally planned to get one studio for them only but heck, it's my birthday on July 1 so I need to stay onsite too. :-) So.....not much open on short notice here but of course it's right before the July 4th holiday too.---Kathy

I called only a little over 2 months out for a BW view 1 bedroom. Got 3 nights right away and 3 more via waitlist. I booked a pool/garden view in the mean time. I am enjoying the room now. :goodvibes

It boggles my mind to think of AKV being completely booked. That place is so huge!

Talk about last minute! I rented points yesterday to someone checking in OKW on May 9th!!!! There was availability!

I called this afternoon and got two Ocean View rooms for July 14th through the 17th.... 4 nights. I was shocked I was able to score two rooms for all 4 nights. :thumbsup2
