Exactly why the debate board was closed!!

I don't know about the rest of you but I personally like coming to these boards and others for advice and encouragement. I don't come here to have my opinion's judged or debated by those who don't agree. If I post something that you disagree with fine, state your point and move on. Some people just love to think they are right and the funny thing is, the ones who keep quiet are usually the ones who know what the heck they are talking about. THis is NOT a debate board, it is a community board for people to get along and share advice. I for one will respond to certain things that may be up for debate but I will not bluntly insult anyone's opinion. I would appreciate the same. I think if we would like this board to remain in effect than we might want to try and be adults.

That's funny, because I distinctly recall (on more than one recent occasion) mods and webmasters posting that we were free to debate on the CB now, as long as we followed the site guidelines.

Should've cut it off at "it is a community board"... your interpretation is that it's for people to get along and share advice. Is a hearty debate (without childish insults) about current events not part of a community?

The refugees from the debate board were told EXPLICITLY that we could debate here, provided that we follow the board rules. From my reading of them, I don't see where it says that you are not allowed to question someone else's opinion.

If you don't think you can handle having your opinion on issues questioned, I'd suggest avoiding those threads that appear to be about contentious subjects.

Just a piece of friendly advice.....We didn't ASK to have the debate board closed, so if you want this to go back to a place of nothing but sweetness and light (and honestly, I liked it that way, as I frequented both boards)...well, all I can say is that so do a lot of other people, including the people from the debate board.

I think what "southernclass" is saying is those of us who "hang out" on the CB do not want this to turn into the DB.
I personally come here as a break in my stressful work day to get a nice break and not to see people debating. Seeing people "debate" often causes me to tense up and not relax like I am looking for.

I've got an easy solution. I just choose not to participate in the debates and skip the threads titled "DEBATE: ............." JMHO.

Lighten up dude, it's "only a message board".

No one is forcing you to read or participate in anything.

I have yet to see anyone from the DB that has hijacked a fluff thread.

They were the ones that came on the DB and stirred things up a bit right from their first post.

Part of being an adult is dealing with situations that are not exactly as we would have them. Accusing other of childish behavior while whining is not exactly mature.

I thought I was the only one who was confused... whew!

And southernclass, you posted on the DB of your own accord. It's not like you stumbled across the threads by accident. So I'm a bit confused as to your sudden denouncement of people disagreeing with you.

Anyway, I think it's easy to stay away from nasty threads on any board, no matter what. Just read the thread's title, for Pete's sake. People get really nasty on the CB too; sometimes even the "sweetness and light" discussions can take a turn for the worse. It's just how people are sometimes.

I think these concerns should be addressed to Pete and the mods - not the general population of the CB..

The regulars on the CB were not given a choice in this matter and neither were the regulars on the DB.. If anyone wants the DB to come back because they feel debates don't belong here then they need to address their concerns to the powers that be.. Meanwhile the former DBer's are simply following the instructions they were given - to post their debates here (within the guidelines, of course)..

You're complaining to the wrong audience - take it up with the management..
