EWP group?

DMickey, I'm so glad a romance is starting, it's all sounds so very romantic. That's funny about your plants, I can't keep them alive either. And thankfully it doesn't go as far as the children because I've managed to keep two of them alive now for 13 years. lol and to think our cat is now over 3. But, I do have a few plants, but my DH takes care of them.

SG, I simply cannot believe the story about the Mardi Gras, sounds like that can definitely be a movie. I also cannot believe your stamina for cleaning. I have difficulty with that aspect of my housekeeping abilities or should I say disabilities.

IASW Rider, I would love to know more about your wedding plans of your faith. I finally got a chance to read your post about your wedding "challenges" with dsil to be. If you are going to raise your children within the Jewish faith do not give a dual wedding a second thought. Stick to your guns girl!!! After all, remind dsil to be that Catholicism's roots are of the Jewish faith. After all Jesus was Jewish.

helenabear, do I hear correctly that you are a green thumb?

Remember about the problem, girl scout ski trip or boys bball competition? Well, problem solved. It is snowing here and it is supposed to snow and/or sleet tomorrow so I made the Girl Scout Executive decision and cancelled the ski trip. Most parents agreed wholeheartedly. I didn't want to be responsible for a car accident or injuries on the mountain, which may have happened anyway, however, the weather is bad. I only had a problem with one mom, and I know that is because I would have been her babysitting service for the day.

Well, I better get some shut eye, I have to get ready to hoot and holler for the boys. I also have to go make peace with DH, he is such a sweet man and I sometimes don't tell him that. I am such a fast paced busy person, whew, that I must slow down and give him some lovin'. hee hee. No suite for me tonight, i'm a stayin' home tonight. Wendy

Hi there everyone!

Sorry I've been kind of busy lately so I haven't been around much. I have peeped in once in a while to get the best lemonaide in the world from here but otherwise I have been busy at work and Luis took my computer away from me for a while again while trying to figure out why the transfer rate was so slow for us  He's learned his lesson and never again will he so foolishly do a thing like that to me.

I am sorry I won't get a chance to chat with you all about everything but I was ordered by a really nice guy to go to bed. That was about 30 minutes ago so I had better head off, but I didn't want you guys to think I didn't care about you all. I will also say that I am swamped at work (which is why you haven't seen day posts from me) and tomorrow night I have church choir practice from about 6:30 to 9:00 so I may not make it in as well. I just want to give each of you {{{HUGS}}} and I will 'see you' soon!

Hey Everyone!

Nice to see you again, DMickey28! Thanks for stopping by! And glad to hear that your new relationship is going well and that you've been able to spend so much time together! He sounds like a great guy! How did you meet him? What does he do? Do tell all! :)

Thanks again for your thoughtful words, everyone! It was very kind of you to take the time to listen to my whining, again! I think that everything will be fine. Frank told me last night that he's decided to go down to his Mom's one weekend in March, by himself, to talk to her and to give her my "wedding document" and explain things to her. I really don't think that she will have a problem with anything. And I think that Frank's idea is the best one - to just talk to her one on one and answer any questions that she has - she may be too embarrassed or nervous to ask them in front of me, so it's probably better that I not be there. Frank is fine with everything - the plans that we made, all of the arrangements. And I really believe that his sister is, too - I just think that she was trying to "shake things up" a bit to get some attention from Frank and because she needs to adjust to the idea of her "little brother" (who is age 41) getting married. I know that everything will be all right. And I'll definitely feel better once Frank discusses our wedding plans with his family.

That was some Mardi Gras story, SG! WOW! Jstmee is right - it sounds like something that you would see on TV or in the movies! Thank God everyone was all right - that sounds pretty scary! That's neat that all your boys were enjoying the AL Mardi Gras goodies! Hope that you had a good night of sleep and got to rest and relax, last night!

Glad to hear that you solved your ski trip vs. basketball dilemma, Jstmee! Now you'll all be able to go and cheer on the boys - I'm sure that they will do a great job! And I'm sure that you'll be able to reschedule the ski trip for later in the season, at a time when it will be safer to go. Is your DD very disappointed? I'm sure that you'll get some skiing in, soon! WOW - I can't believe that it's snowing up there, again! Come on down here and visit scenic NJ - it's (drum roll, please) 65 degrees and sunny, here, today!!!! Unbelievable weather we've been having, lately - 75 degrees in November and 65 degrees in February! Is this the "global warming" that we keep hearing about??!! Regardless, I just hope that it means that spring is around the corner!

Thanks for stopping in, Helenabear! Hope that all is well! Don't work too hard, have fun at choir practice, and we'll see you soon!

How are you doing out there, Angelina? Hope that you're having a nice day! :)

Not too much to report, here. Just trying to get through the rest of the week! Looking forward to seeing the Women's Figure Skating long programs "on" the Olympics, tonight! And can't wait for this week to be over! We're going to visit some friends of mine from college (who married eachother) on Saturday - I haven't seen them in person in a few years, and Frank has never met them before, so I can't wait to see them! They were "brothers" of mine in the community service fraternity that I belonged to in college (Frank was also a "brother" in my fraternity, but was in college several years before I was, so we didn't know eachother at that time!) and it will be fun to talk about old times and to see their children.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling on (ie: procrastinating at work) and get out of here, now! Anyone for a cheeseburger at Pinocchio's Village Haus? They're the best in all of WDW (plus, we can sit in the "IASW seats" and look down at the boats entering IASW! :) ) Have a great day, Ladies! (And gentlemen, if Dan and Luis are around!) :)

Just had to post the link to a weird and funny IASW thread, here - I know that you already found it, SG, but maybe the rest of you would get a laugh from it! (Or possibly be disgusted by it!) It's funny, at one point, I actually thought of filling a film container vial with IASW water - NOT to drink - but just to keep as a souvenir. When I told my Fantasmic friend about that, he said "watch out for bacterial infections!" which made me decide against it! I do have a film container vial of sand from the Poly beach, though! :)

Here's the link:

Hi there everyone! Today turned out to be not such a bad day for me at work so far (knock on wood) so I am taking it nice and slow here at work and taking a nice break. I will try to catch up on you all but if I miss something, I apologize... contrary to popular belief I do forget things once in a while (although a few men, in particular, I know would never believe that of me).

Rider, all I can do is offer you a {{{{GBFHUG}}}} and say I hope things work out with Frank's family. Oddly enough I had just the opposite problem when Luis and I got married. I didn't have a mother to pester me and the rest of our families didn't want to "impose their thoughts" on us too much. I even pressured for some input but got nothing :( I just hope Frank and his mom see eye to eye on how the wedding is going to be.

Jstmee, I am so glad you got your situation resolved. I am sorry you can't go skiing but I agree it is better to be safe than sorry. This way you can also see your boys as well. I can't say if I have a green thumb or not. I really don't do too much in the way of gardening. I plant things here and there and usually just let them go. If they grow, they grow. If not, oh well :) I don't do indoor plants due to my babies because I don't want to have things that may make them sick, so I really can't tell you if I have a green thumb or not. The closest I came was with my co-worker's plants when he went on vacation for two weeks. He didn't tell anyone to water them and four days before his return I spent about 20 minutes a day pruning the plants and making sure they had water. They did survive surprisingly!

DMickey28, it sounds like you have a good start to the romance. It sounds wonderful to be able to just hang out and enjoy each other so much. He does sound like a sweetheart and it is always good to find people with similar values to yourself. It makes dating so much easier when you have more in common. Keep us posted on that as I love hearing about the beginnings of relationships. I hope class and work are going well for you as well. How much time do you have left in school?

SG, that was one amazing story about Marti Gras. That was awful but I am so glad to hear they made it back home! I will say I am only an Indy 500 fan because that is where Luis and I "hooked up". We were on a band trip to the Indy 500 to be in a few parades in college at Ohio State and through a friend of ours (I went to high school with him and Luis played drums with him) we became an item that weekend... that was 6 years ago this coming up May :)

Angelina, it sounds like you will be busy with your garden but it sounds like it will be beautiful.

Wow, my hands are getting tired from saying so much. I will just add that maybe in the next day or two, I will take a picture or two of my hair now so you can see how "short" it is now. I will admit one thing, I hate it. I wished I hadn't done it... or at the very least I wish I had at least 2 more inches. I will get over it just about the time it grows back, but in the mean time I am "kicking myself" for doing such a stupid thing. Well I hope you all have a great day! See you soon!

Don't say that, Elaine - I'm sure that your hair looks great!!!!! :)

Thanks Lisa. I am sure it looks great, but to me it certainly doesn't feel great. Luis likes it though :)

Thank you everyone for you kind wishes on my new relationship!!!

SG ~ That Madri Gras story was out of this world. That is scary. Thank goodness for that credit card. Big crowds like Madri Gras scare me... I am very fightened of big cities until I adjust. That's why I love Disney, big crowds for fun loving, passionate people (for the most part!!) Oh BTW I think I will take a Raspberry Daquire(sp?)...frozen with whipped cream!! Thanks!!!

Jstmee ~ I am glad that the skiing vs. basketball diliema worked out. Hopefully there will be another time to take the girls skiing and have wonderful weather and no conflicts!!!

Rider ~ I agree, stick to your guns. It's your day with Frank. I am sure it will all work out more perfectly than you could imagine.

Helenabear ~ I am sure that your hair looks beautiful. What color is it? It won't be long before you get those two inches back.... :)

My romance is going wonderfully. I keep bringing him on the DIS to look for some jokes and I run across a thread that I wrote about him and I shut the whole thing down afraid that he will see the words I am writing about him!! We have spent nearly every evening together, studying or watching movies or having dinner and talking.... I am sure you know the feeling, I just can't describe it!! I just hope it continues. I know it's hard to say this so soon, it's only been a week, but I really feel he could be it.... I know you never know, but it's just so amazing I can't imagine there anyone else out there to connect with this way. It's been a week from Valentine's Day but we have spent either hours talking on the phone or in person every day.... covering topics about ourselves that some people never get to in the "dating" stage or it takes months of dating. I don't believe that things are depended on time really. We share a lot!

I am sorry I babbled there a little. I hope it makes some coherent sense!! I am a 2nd year Senior this year and will be graduating in May from UMASS. I have job lined up somewhere in MA, CT or RI, just waiting for the offical word of which location! Mike is a 1st Semester Senior this year in the same major, though his concentration is Hotels where mine is Restaurants. We met last semester when we were in two classes together. He was the person on the first day of classes I sat next to and thought to myself, wow he is cute but he wouldn't ever be interested in me! Then I said Hi to him a few weeks later and we started talking in class.... We started to get more friendly towards the end of last semester and at the beginning of this one we found we had two more classes together. This just kind of progressed until we both revealed that we were single and dateless on Valentine's Day so we made a date..... we are both very shy!!!

I will not continue to bore you with details.... Thank you for listening and being so thoughtful and caring!! Have a great day. I must start studying for tomorrow's exam....agrrr... :)

You're not "boring" us at all, DMickey28!!! I love hearing romantic stories like that! :) That's so neat that you revealed that you both didn't happen to have Valentine's Day dates.....and then the rest was history! :) What town is UMass actually in? One of my best friends from high school went to Mount Holyoke, and I went up to visit her there a few times - I know that UMass isn't far away from there, but I'm not sure where!

Maybe it will just take a bit of time to get used to the new length of your hair, Helenabear! I'll bet that it will grow back quickly! And like I said, I'm sure that it looks really nice! :)

OK - back to work!

Take care and have a good night, if I don't "see" you all again, today! :)

I'm with Rider, you are definitely not boring us with your talk of your new romance Christina. I too love hearing about it, so keep right on talking away and we won't mind :) I think it is wonderful that you spend so much time together. It makes a big difference, I think in how you deal with each other if you can "stand" to be together all the time. Luis and I used to study together and would intentionally move to be near each other. For two years we both lived in a high rise and lived one floor beneath each other. It was very nice and very convenient to be able to do that.

DMickey28, I have medium to dk brown hair with natural lt brown highlights in the front. It is kind of thick and has a lot of natural loose curl/wave to it. I guess part of my problem is that I cannot get used to some of the curl that has come back and honestly how short it is. If you want a picture of my hair down you can go here This was Luis' and my engagement photo but you can kind of see the way my hair is. I think in that picture I had straightened it and it was about 2 inches longer. I will work on getting a picture some time soon for you all to see.

Well I should go, Thursdays are my busy night.

Any old person can talk about major events but it takes talent to write about everyday things that ordinary people can relate to. We have a talented group here IMHO. DMickey, old married people like myself enjoy seeing the sprouts of young love. Just babble all you want to. It is wonderful to hear. This sounds like a match made in heaven, not only all the romantic details but you both have similar professional interests and I can see the two melding very well. Having been married for 30 years, this year, I look for the practical in relationships as well as the romantic. I have to say that the ONLY reason to marry is love IMHO. Marriage is a hard row sometimes and if you do not have the love you just are not going to make it. It does have to work both ways though. As a motherly type person I am most pleased to see that you guys are going slowly and building a relationship. (grin) BTW, I love the sound of your favorite drink. Sounds more like a dessert to me.

Rider, I know the thread you are talking about. I stopped by there myself. The first time I took my oldest grandson to DW I had to explain each and every ride to him because he is very afraid of new things and I had explained the water at IASW to him. He would not ride any rides that grandma would not get on cause he knew grandma was as chicken as he was. There were a couple of rides that I had to grit my teeth and get through because I did not want to scare him. We went on the WED way (?) and he was so terrified that I had to make a circle of my arms and call it a magic circle so he could do it. I thought of you when I read the thread and had seen you , in my mind, taking home a souvenier of the special water. I still contend that with all those small children in there and boys being boys that the water would have a yellow cast to it. I have seen the gleam in the eyes of the little Mexican boys. LOL I am betting that Frank's mom will be so pleased at being asked for her input that she will think whatever you want is just fine. She does not sound as if she has been super involved in his life so far.

Helenabear, I just finished reading a thing about cat's eating habits and it said that cats are not vegetarians so am wondering if they would chew on plants? I find myself looking at cat stuff a lot more than I used to because of you and Rider. I am glad that you had a good work day. You deserve a break from time to time.

Jstmee and Angelina, I hope the weather was great where you both are and that your kids were the charming little angels that I know they ALWAYS are. (grin)

Your friend, Slightly Goofy

Really quick, here is a link to my "short hair" and my round old chipmunk cheeks Enjoy!

Dear Helenabear

You are just a child. I know you are young but gosh you look even younger. Don't mean to insult you but you look enough like I did when I was younger to be my child. Hey, always did want more kids anyway. LOL You are a very pretty girl and that smile is great. Thanks for the view.

I love the peek at your home too. Built ins!! Love 'em!

SG/Linda

Yes I am a "youngin'" I am merely 25 years old. I guess it is a blessing that I look younger now because at least if I look young now I have a chance of looking younger in my old ages. I am glad you like my smile. The only reason why I don't like my smile is because they make my cheeks look bigger... and once you are labeled with "chipmunk cheeks" you can never live it down.

I'm working on getting the house clean enough for more photos. We haven't done much to the house but at least it is ours (or sort of borrowed from the bank that is) :D

Helenabear, chipmunk cheeks are good things. Really and truly. Ever see some older ladies who are very thin, which looks nice from the neck down, but there faces are full of wrinkles. There are a few spots on the body that look better being a little plump and the face is one of them. I am 53 and have nary a wrinkle on my face. Lots and lots of natural collegan. LOL Please do not let that stop you from smiling. I used to wear a lot of very dark colors to 'slim' me down and one day I decided that, especially at my size, it did not help enough to matter and it was depressing me and possibly those around me. I go for color nowadays. I even have one totally red outfit. I call it my "What the Hell" outfit. While I am sure that people remember me for my large size I sincerely hope they see me as a basically happy person with a big smile.

Don't worry so much about the cleaning and care of your house. I only do it because I am crazy. If I had better things to do I would. Believe me, that house is yours and not the banks. You will pay the bank about 2 dollars in interest for each dollar that you borrowed and if you decided to 'give it back to the bank" you would find out fast that the bank does not consider it to be theirs. They want the money. LOL BTW when you get a chance sit down and look at your repayment schedule that shows how much of each payment is going toward the principal. You will see that very little of your payments in the early years go toward the principal. If you will put that extra $20-30 on your monthly payment it is the same as paying an extra payment and you will be one month closer to owning your home outright. The amount showing as the interest due on that month (hundreds) is the amount you have just saved. The earlier in the loan you start doing this the quicker and easier it is to pay off your home. As the loan progresses the amount going toward principal rises as the interest amount declines so you would have to pay far more extra in order to accomplish the same objective. I know people who keep a loan on their home because of the property tax break they get for having a loan but if you crunch the numbers you will see that the amount you save on interest is better than the property tax break. This only works if you do not have other bills though as it is better, taxwise, to have a home loan than any other kind of loan since that interest is tax deductible. Everyone's situation is different and I can only speak to what worked for us. I wish I had known more when I was younger. One thing I can think of is that I might have gone for a more expensive house as we could have sold it after retirement and bought a cheaper house and had the balance tax free. Just some things for you youngsters to think of although I bet Rider knows far more than I since she is in the investment business. I believe it is far better at this point in time with savings interest rates being so low to pay off bills rather than try to save money as the interest rates on the bills is so high.

It is far too early in the morning for me to be on the soapbox. Think I will step down and get in t he mood to kid with the children and read some good books to them.

A good thing about having a 'cyber' mother is that you can delete her. (grin)

Have a great day you young people and I am going to hobble my way out the door to start my day.

SG/Linda

Helenabear, I, too, have round cheeks, and I have always hated to see pictures of myself. Someone once told me that round cheeks were a sign of youth, and I would always look younger than my age, because my face would have fewer wrinkles than a thinner person.

Just to light a fire under you, SG, I received an e-mail for an even lower rate at a moderate resort, and saved $10/night by re-booking my ressies. I still don't know if we're going to be able to go, but we'll see. My husband received a severance package letter in the mail, but hasn't been told he won't have a job after April, so I don't know what's up with that. Oh, if only I could take that severance package money and go to WDW!!! LOL

I haven't been around lately, I've been reading your posts, and keeping up with the new romance (oh, to be young again!) but I've been coming down with the flu or something, and haven't felt like posting. I took a large spoonful of cough syrup the doc prescribed for my dd when her ear was infected last week, and OMG was it strong. My head is still swimming, and I only took one dose! Imagine what it does to a 2 year old. :) (If only she would take it.)

It's getting cold here again, the low should be 31 tonight, and it's been so nice, in the 70's during the day. We have a lot of things going on this weekend, and I wish it was warmer. After spending last Saturday on my knees in my flower beds, I was ready for Spring. One thing we're doing tomorrow is go to a Chili Cook-off for the Cancer Society. I guess it will be more fun to eat chili in the cold than on a 70 degree day. We had taco soup last night, because Mom didn't feel like cooking or eating.

I hope everyone's having a great day. BTW, SG, how's your dd feeling?

Good morning!

First of all, I have to say thanks so much for sending the links to your pictures, Helenabear - they are wonderful and you look great in both of them! And I don't think that you have "chipmunk cheeks" at all! I had to go back and look at the picture again, after I read that you had written that - and I STILL don't think that you have anything remotely resembling "chipmunk cheeks"! And your hair looks really nice, too!

And you, my dear SG, hardly have to "hobble" - you are always so energetic and accomplish way more than I could ever hope to do on any given day! You are very vital and youthful and always full of great ideas and projects and it sounds like there is rarely a time when you are not keeping busy! So we will not listen to this "hobbling" stuff! SO THERE!

You know, I only recently figured out that if you add an extra $20 - $30 to your mortgage payments that it will really affect the speed with which one can own his or her home outright! I really have to start doing that, myself! I wish that I could say that I was more investment savvy, SG. I have passed both exams that would qualify me as a "stock broker" in NJ, but I don't think that I could ever do a sales job successfully, so I chose to take the exams for educational purposes and to get the "credentials". I've never actually traded securities before (either professionally or personally). I'm a Trust Officer, now, and I do have an account load, but I basically oversee my accounts from a regulatory perspective as opposed to an investment perspective. I work with investment managers on each account, and they're the people that do the actual buys and sells. So I wish that I could impress you all with my sophisticated knowledge of the stock market.....but I can't....but I could bore you all to death with my sophisticated knowledge of the IRS regulations that govern retirement plans......or not....!!! (hee hee! :) )

Do you know that they closed down that IASW / water thread?? I thought that it was pretty funny! It was apparently closed down because it was off topic.......just like our original EWP thread! Oh well. :( I am glad that I never took any of that water home as a souvenir.....you really don't know what's in there.....I couldn't imagine anyone really wanting to drink it......and I wouldn't doubt that it DOES, in fact, have that yellowish "hue", SG! (hee hee!)

Any interesting weekend plans, anyone? How about spending a few hours in Future World, then heading over to Restaurant Akershus in Norway for dinner, followed by ToD and IllumNations? We haven't done that in awhile!

Hope that you're all having a nice day! Talk to you soon! :)

Hi there everyone!

I am glad you guys like my hair. I have had little comments about it except that it looks good and that they hardly noticed the difference... I will get used to it I am sure but it really is a big adjustment for me. I know it was long before but 6 or so inches is a lot of hair no matter how short or long it used to be. Thank you for the good thoughts about the round face & cheeks. That really makes me feel good. I will always have a round face and sometimes I wish I could have a slimmer face but if it means as I get older, I will retain more youth then I will happily keep my round cheeks :)

If I am going to take pictures of my house now, I really want it nicer looking. I don't like having people see how I normally keep my house (which isn't very good most of the time) because I want them to see how I would have the house if they were coming for a visit. We do our best to add an extra amount to our payments when we can. Some months are better than others for this and we try it when we can now. Adding just $50 a month cuts off 4 or 5 years of our payments. Hopefully we can add even more than that sometime soon.

Rider, I don't have any interesting plans for the weekend and that is just the way I like my weekends :) I am most likely going out to dinner with my dad and Luis tonight but that is the extent of it for us.

Angelina, I certainly hope you are feeling better soon. I was beginning to wonder where you were but since you haven't been feeling well, please take care of yourself!

SG, please know we would never delete our 'cyber mom' We'll listen then ignore what you say just like a real mom ;) Seriously I love your wisdom that you share with us. It really does help to hear things from someone who has "already done it"

Jstmee, I hope you enjoy your weekend with the boys!

DMickey, please don't work to hard and keep us posted on your new romance. It sounds absolutely wonderful :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Elaine, what beautiful pictures! I didn't realize you were just a youngun' either. hee hee I turn 40 in May. That is the first glimpse of you I've seen, you are a very pretty girl.

DMickey, I went to college in Longmeadow Mass, travel administration and went through the management training program with the Sheraton Corp. and worked with them for a few years before kids. Sheraton took me to CT, DC, Phila., Boston. My brother, who went for F&B Mgmt. at UPENN is an exec chef in Malibu, CA........lol, I've visited "Zoo"Mass in my college years, even almost transferred there.

I met my DH of 11 years because we worked for the same company and I wanted to sit at a certain table at our Christmas Party. The table was filled except for a notation that said Vince and ?, apparently he was still in search for a date and the bold woman that I am (in theory only, lol) I said to the arranger, who's that guy I'll go with him. In ten minutes, I went back to my office. I worked in Personnel, looked up his history----heehee, in his personnel folder and 5 minutes later he walked in and asked me out on a date. We got married 6 months later. On our first date I thought, I could marry this man.

IASW Rider, I enjoyed the IASW threads and of course I was going to post but found it to be closed also. I got such a chuckle out of it when old timer said he drank from Splash Mountain, that is an awesome ride, but it STINKS sooooo bad from the water. I am so gullible I thought he was serious about drinking that water.

Angelina, good to see you back again. Go to WDW while you can. Put caution to the wind.

SG, never would I delete or think of not reading you posts. What a woman you are.

Boys, did okay but didn't win, we had a good time, went to Pizza Hut afterward, gotta go, the older one needs the puter.

Wendy
