Everything SOLD OUT! WHAT DO I DO NOW?

jlima -

So are you saying that this convention is not at any Disney facility and that they are just using the hotel rooms?

I would call a travel agent . I have had mine get me all kinds of trips that were " sold" out and sometimes at a discount .
Good Luck

It appears the NACE convention is using the Orange County convention center for their exhibits and has room blocks at several I Drive and Seaworld hotels. I didn't see any Disney hotels on the hotel list on their website.

The OCCC recently completed an expansion this year; however the amount of hotels rooms in the immediate area can't support the size of the events the center can accomodate. The following sentence was taken directly from the OCCC's website:

"The Convention Center is within walking distance of more than 6,000 hotel rooms, and within 45 minutes driving distance to more than 86,000 hotel rooms in the Orlando metropolitan area."

If every one of the 6,000 rooms in "walking distance" is filled with NACE attendees then that still leaves several thousand people to find rooms somewhere else in the city. 35,000 people are projected to attend this show, and they all have to stay somewhere.

Orlando newspapers and trade show media have done stories on this topic - hotel construction in Orlando has not followed the expansion of their convention center, and people attending conventions in Orlando stay all over the city and not in the immediate area of the convention center, because it doesn't have enough hotel rooms.

I would expect to see more weekends like this one, with high occupancy (and high rates) in the whole city.

The Florida State Democratic Convention is also in town that weekend of 12/5. I think they are holding it at Coronado Springs - but not positive. Plus you have Pop Warner Football that is a WDW around that time.

Just got off the phone with disney reservations. They are sold out for December 3-11. The only thing they have is a room at the beach club for $405. I thought that this was value season and the parks were empty at this time? Any suggestions?
What time is the best time to call to see if they have cancellations?

I had a very difficult time getting the AP and FL resident discount this year. I wanted to visit the second week in Dec, but ended up having to change over to the first week. Worse, I didn't get to stay at the WL (my favorite resort) this year.

If you can be flexible with the dates, you might be able to get a discounted room. Splitting the reservation into two ressies might also help. Keep calling..Someone is bound to cancel.

One more thing..I asked the CRO CM the very same question you you were pondering...They stated that even with the resorts 100% occupied, the parks would be empty.

FWIW, I doubt that the convention has anything to do with the sold out condition of the Disney resorts. Most convention goers will want to stay closer to the Convention Center.

Weekends in early December are very popular. It's value season (lower rates) and many locals like to visit to go to MVMCP (there's one on 12/5), the Candlelight Processional (nightly beginning right after Thanksgiving) and to see all the Holiday decorations. In addition to the Mousefest (a big "meet" of people who frequent Disney internet billetin boards), December 5 - 7 is Teddy Bear and Doll weekend at EPCOT. There is a Pop Warner event taking place 12/7 - 12/13 and many groups arrive early. Many stay on site at the values/moderates. On top of all that, we're talking about a weekend less than 30 days from now. It's not at all surprising that the on site resorts, especially the EPCOT resorts are all sold out.

Keep in mind that even though the on site resorts are full, it doesn't necessarily follow that the parks will be crowded. We need to see high occupancy rates for most of the off site hotels/resorts before that happens!

I agree with Janet about Dreams Unlimited. I would ask specifically about the Swan and Dolphin. They often are booked by convention groups that don't end up using all the rooms. DU could let you know when some rooms free up. We loved staying at the Dolphin, deluxe hotel and great location. You also might want to check with mousesavers.com about getting in on the Mousefest and book a room with them.

Dont give up. Keep calling CRO, the more you call the better your chances. I am sure there will be some cancellations. But be persistant. Keep in mind that to get your deposit back there is a 5 day cancellation policy. So the closer it gets to Nov 26 the more opportunity to find a cancellation.

We have done this many times even for holidays and never really had a problem getting something.

Go on the WDW main web site and look at reservations. It looks like all the hotel's have rooms available. Also call back main reservations, I guarantee you can still find rooms for your dates.

Even if there are conventioners staying in the WDW resorts, does that mean the parks will be crowded? I hope they are too busy to stuff the parks! Also, some people saw that early December weekends are busy...but I've read several books that declare the first two weeks of December as being one of the least crowded times to go. I'm hoping this year isn't a special case where it's crowded. :(
