Everything Michigan....

Possible snow on Tues. and a high of around 80 on Friday.......Michigan.....gotta love it!!!!

Hey, Geoff M. I sent you a private message....did you get it???

We just booked our camping trip to Cheboygan State park. I'm also going to Mackinac Island for the first time and I can't wait.. Has anyone been there and can give me some tidbits? I don't want to miss anything..

We always enjoyed renting the self-steered horse drawn carriages--much more relaxing than biking around the Island. The horses really know the way and managed to stop at a small party store off the beaten path for a 6 pack.

Walking through the Grand is also cool, but there is a charge to do so now.

We were more about the ambiance of the Island and preferred to wander around off the main streets and check out the homes of those folks who live there in summer and/or year around. One time (without children) we wandered from restaurant to restaurant and had appetizers/drinks. That was fun.

Mackinaw City has become pretty commercial, but can be fun to wander around. There is also a state park nearby that was quite nice in years past--haven't been for a while.

You don't say when you are going, but remember it gets very cool up there at night. We spent 17 lovely (NOT) years living in Gaylord and I have to admit, other than our friends and the golf, I don't miss it one bit. Far too cold up that way for me, but I will admit it is beautiful.

Have fun!

We are going Father's day weekend. I do plan on taking my heater with me. :rotfl2: Its funny I asked my dh the other day if we could drink around the island like you can do in epcot. :rotfl2: we are going camping with 2 other families so we have a little group going. I can't wait. I want to do the horse ride as opposed to the bike thing. My balance isn't quite there :rotfl2: Thanks so much for your advice. :goodvibes

My daughter needs to write a list for items made in Michgan for school and sadly the only item I could come up with is the Ford. I know there's lots more items made in Michigan other than a car. Could you all help me out with creating a list? Thanks from the Hoosier state.

We live in West MI. Lots of things made here - Kelloggs Cereal, office furniture - Steel Case and Haworth. We grow lots of produce like grapes (many wineries in MI), cherries, apples, strawberries. Amway Corp. is in Grand Rapids. There is a Kebbler factory in GR too. There are also many automotive suppliers like Gentex- rear view mirrors, and Johnson Controls - not sure what they make.

Some other big names are Dow Chemical and Dow Automotive. We also used to have a huge logging industry but not sure there is much anymore. Also lots of mining in the upper peninsular. I think if you Google Michigan industry it should give you a good list

To add my personal favorites to the Made in Michigan list - Better Made potato chips, Faygo pop & Sanders hot fudge. (Now I'm hungry, thanks! ;) ).

Some lines of Carhartt clothing are still made here, and the company is headquartered in Dearborn.

Gerber baby food is a Michigan company and some products are still made here.

Several of the major pizza chains started here (Dominos, Little Caesars, Hungry Howies).

Whirlpool appliances.

I'm sure I'll think of more given a little time, but those are the ones that I've got just off the top of my head.

Lifesavers and Whirlpool/Maytag I think they are still made here. Archway Cookies, Lazyboy furniture.

Okay, I have to ask a weird question. I grew up in Michigan and loved the picture of Bob-Jo's. But for some reason I think I remember that the physical location moved when I was a kid, up to and including moving the original building to its present location? Does anyone else know anything about this, or did I have a dream when I was a kid that stuck with me? My DH doesn't remember anything about it, so I could just be crazy............

It is on fort street. Just north of Pennsylvania. Right where fort street and Quarry meet..

4071 Fort St
Wyandotte, MI 48192

This is the only place I have known it to be my whole life.. I know its been there since 1947

FYI, Archway Cookies is no longer in business in Battle Creek, MI. They have sold off some of the rights to recipes...but I dont think you will see the cookies much longer....The Canada operation is still open.....for the time being.

FYI, the last Bill Knapps building was recently bulldozed in Battle Creek........replaced with a Panera Bread......:sad2:
You can still buy the chocolate cakes at Meijer.

What ever happened to our Michigan thread?????? IS ANYBODY OUT THERE???

I had to move out of Michigan since my husband and I didn't have jobs. So I will be following as an outsider from now on.

I'm an outsider now in Savannah, but I am always happy to see this thread come around again. So do they still have Hot Sam's pretzels in the mall?

Guess what opened last Friday

OMG, I remember this place! Their frozen custard was soooo rich I could hardly finish my cone. I want some NOW!!!
