Everything Michigan....

I live 20 miles north of *Menominee* Michigan, in the "banana belt" of the UP (believe me, I work 80 miles NW of here, brrrrr). I almost had a heart attack when relatives coming up for DS's christening made reservations at the chain hotel in Menomonie WI, not Menominee MI!

And I hate the fact that we're "in the news" today for the drunk driver that hit and killed a family of five (dad and four kids) in Peshtigo late Sun. night. Sigh.

Waiting for that 20+ degree "heat wave"!
Terri

Weather forecast:

34 degrees on Friday........

We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave.......get out the sun tan lotion.....get out the lawn chairs.....fire up the grill.... I'm going to smoke a cigar and drink a beer on the deck !!!! WOOOOO HOOOOOO

Hello there!

I'm not currently living in Michigan but I was born in Traverse City. I grew up in Southern California, but we'd travel back to visit as often as possible. Then I moved back to Lake Ann, (just outside of Traverse City) from 2004-2007.
Sadly, the employment situation forced us to move again to Nevada which is where we are now. (ok, so maybe the snow had a teeny tiny role in that decision ;) )

Anyway, I miss it! My mom and all her side of the family still live there. We still own a house near Traverse City. My mom is living in it currently. I toy with the idea of moving back, but I just know we wouldn't find work that pays enough. :guilty:
I do miss it a lot though. Especially the Fall. Oh man, you cannot beat the Fall in Northern Michigan! So pretty.

Well, just wanted to say hello. And share something my aunt, who lives in MI, sent me the other day. Hopefully it doesn't offend anyone. :flower3: It had me cracking up! Hope it gives you all a chuckle too.

Are you aware that Jeff Foxworthy is now picking on Michigan? Read on.

If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 18 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Michigan.

If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights each year because Pellston is the coldest spot in the nation, you might live in Michigan.

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from November through
March, you might live in Michigan. (Reading this made me want a turtle sundae from Wares Bros!)

If you instinctively walk like a penguin for five months out of the year, you might live in Michigan.

If someone in a store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you might live in Michigan.

If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, you might live in Michigan.

If you have worn shorts and a coat at the same time, you might live in Michigan. (Do coats and flip flops count?! lol)

If your town has an equal number of bars and churches, you might live in Michigan.

If you have had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you might live in Michigan.

You know you're a true MICHIGANIAN/MICHIGANDER when:

8. You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend knows how to use them.

9. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

10.Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.

11.You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction.

12.You can identify a southern or eastern accent.

13.Your idea of creative landscaping is a statue of a deer next to your blue spruce.

14.You were unaware that there is a legal drinking age.

15.Down South to you means Ohio.

16.A brat is something you eat.

17.Your neighbor throws a party to celebrate his new pole barn.

18.You go out to fish fry every Friday.

19.Your 4th of July picnic was moved indoors due to frost.

21.You find 0 degrees "a little chilly".

22.You drink pop and bake with soda. (I never got used to that! POP??)

26.You think owning a Honda is Un-American.

27.You know that UP is a place, not a direction.

28.You know it's possible to live in a thumb.

Welcome! The job situation still sucks here. Both my husband and I are unemployed and are probably going to have to move out of state.

I read your last trup report to Disneyland for Halloween. It was great! That is how I found out about the cherry Mickey ear pin that I bought when I was there a couple months ago!

Hi y'all. My friend from Livonia sent me an email this morning that it was O-N-E degree when she left the house yesterday morning. Not wind chill factor, actual..

Hope today is a little warmer for you guys..

Thanks for the compliment on my TR. :goodvibes Yes, when we saw that cherry Mickey ear pin, well, we knew we just had to get it. Guess a part of me will always be loyal to and miss Michigan.

I'm sorry to hear about the job situation for you and your husband. :guilty: It's so sad. I hate that whenever I think about moving back to be with my family again, the thing that stops me is lack of employment. :sad2:

In any case, I hope things work out for you and you don't have to move. Unless you want to that is. You know, Las Vegas is nice and the weather can't be beat this time of year. In the mid to upper 60's all week. ;)
Take it easy and stay warm!

If anyone teaches special ed you can get a heck of a sweet deal in texas or hawii. I know my BFF's moms retired this year and got offered Alot to come out there, almost 4 times what she got paid last year.

Just had to share - Our house hunt is over! It was fun to fantasize about acreage or moving back to the city, but in the end we had to go with what was best for the kids. We bought a 4 bedroom, 1500sq ft house on 1/4 acre just down the street from our current home for 19K, and we've got to be moved in by the end of this month because I've already got a renter for this house set to move in 3/1.

Now for the fun part - the house is in liveable condition as is but is badly in need of updating, so I get to do some big time design/decorating shopping!!

Wow, only 19K?? Good for you! And congrats on having a renter all set to move in. Sounds like all is working out great for you. :thumbsup2

Have fun remodeling and decorating your new home! :yay:

Is everybody enjoying this wonderful Michigan winter???:thumbsup2
Well, "enjoying" might not be the word I'd choose. :rotfl: But definitely surviving. Just think, March is just around the corner. Unfortunately, we're supposed to get 4-7" of snow here tomorrow. I've had about enough snow for this winter. Are they predicting the same thing over there in Battle Creek?

I thought I heard 3-5".......I dont really care at this point, just counting the days for it to be over......waiting for spring break........headed south to Gulf Shores Al........cant wait to see the sun......

This certainly has been a LONG winter!!! I'm going to Florida in early March and I can't wait!!!!!

UNCLE! More snow for us today as well. . .

We're off to see the Mouse in 79 days! It's a bright spot in the dreariness that is MI! :yay:

No snow yet this morning, but it's coming...

47 days till I leave for Florida. I'll focus on that today while I stay inside. :cool1:

You all are lucky heading to FL. BTW the snow is coming your way......it started at 07:45 this morning.....2-3" so far in BC......I ran out and picked up groceries first thing...looks like we are staying in most of the weekend......our high schoolers have a girl date boy dance tonight...so we have to go take photos.......ARRRGGGG

Well, the snow started here about 20 minutes ago. Luckily, I managed to get my errands done before it came. The flurries were just starting when I pulled the car into the garage. I'll stay in the rest of the day now. :surfweb:

We ended up with 3-4"......not bad at all.....Snow has stopped......for now.......
