I'm sooo sick of this winter weather I want to scream!! They say we are already above average snow wise for the month of January. They also said we are almost above average in snow totals for the winter season and January isn't over yet !!

Another thing, does anyone notice the weather guys (channel 2, 4 and 7) never have the same exact forecast. I can't stand channel 7! Dave Rexroth likes to scare you! Even my friends notice! He always blows up the weather to make it worse than it will be! The other channel 7 weather guys- Jeremy and Sean are following Dave's antics too. The only good one on channel 7 is Jerry Hodak. Anyways, I don't watch channel 7 in the mornings anymore due to Dave. I've switched to channel 4. Now it seems like Guy Gordon tries to make the weather scary and he's not the meterologist. I'm not liking Andrew Humphrey (channel 4) on the weekends either. He's never accurate and likes to scare you too. I do like channel 2 - Rich Luterman at 10:00. He's pretty nice and not so scary like the others. What news channel do you watch?

i got the 40% discount postcard. can't use it.. those dates will collide with the children's school schedule. i should just give them a call and tell them that my children are not on school vacation during those dates given.. "so what can you do for me?" or maybe i should just tell them to stop sending me postcards until they can give me dates when me and the children can actually go without interrupting their studies.

It's winter in MICHIGAN
And the gentle breezes blow
Forty miles an hour
At five below.

Oh, how I love MICHIGAN
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Michigan

I hear ya on that one!! We have NEVER had MLK off of school. This is the first year ever that we have Presidents day off.. I'm floored myself..

We don't have MLK Day off either. Most of the place I know that have it off have a high AA population. Around here it is about 3%.

I don't watch any of them.. I call them the most inaccurate forcasters out there.

DH was looking at the weather report for the week and said "we have a heat wave coming"
Me ....said to him thats bad when it gets above 10 degrees and we think it's time to break out the shorts.

Checking in from extreme SE MI (Monroe). Monroe County has a less than 1% african-american population and every school in the county is closed. We haven't had a full day of school since last Tuesday. Weatherforecasters are one of the only jobs one can be paid for being wrong.

It definitely not driven by demographics. I don't think any of the schools in our county had yesterday off, including the one with a heavy minority student population. I think the "no school before Labor Day" law has put real pressure on schools to not run any deeper into June then they have to. In addition, MLK Day now falls into Final Exams week at our high schools.

We have less than 1% AA and we used to have it off until the shift to starting after Labor Day. That one week change makes it so that MLK Day falls at the start of the last week of the semester, so having it off would interfere with finals and such. We do have Friday off this week so teachers have a day to compile and submit semester grades, but we used to get a 4 day weekend because of records day combined with MLK weekend.

Our semester ended last week. Kids had no school on Friday so teachers could get grades in and grade finals.

Weird how we all started the same week, but we are off a week from many people. We even had the whole week of Thanksgiving off. Kids are done in May too.

The dates are on the postcard. I didn't have to look at the children's schedule. I already knew that with those dates, it is not going to work.

WOOO HOOOO 13 degrees today! I could say I was joking, but I honestly didn't button up my coat when I walked from the school to my car! It was nice out! I also noticed on Sunday that at the hockey rink, where I usually freeze - I was just fine. I guess we're all becoming used to the polar weather, eh?
