Everything Michigan....

That's too bad about the meet, you guys. I'm glad the thread is still going, though! We are heading up to visit DH's family in Bloomfield Hills/Novi for a very quick Thanksgiving, then back at Christmas for a little longer...my big disappointment? The schedule for Fantasyland in Lincoln Park doesn't include any of our visit time! I wanted to see it so bad, I was surprised it was still up and running..and still only $1.00. I wanted my kids to see it, too. We will miss it by one day..:guilty:

But I did find out that there is a Trader Joe's only about 15 minutes from DMIL's house, so maybe I can try some of that Two Buck Chuck I hear everyone raving about here on the Dis!

Let's talk some more Michigan..I am going to need to run to a grocery store that carries Sander's Hot Fudge..Does Kroger still carry it?

Another question..we may go to Greenfield Village on of our days. It's been 30 years since I have been there. Can both the village and the museum be done in one day?

OMG!!! Fantasyland is still going? I thought there was a fire several years ago. Could someone give me the address/how to get there. It's been 30+ years since I've been and I would LOVE to bring the kids. I was always afraid of Santa and I remember getting up the courage to go up the stairs to see him and getting a candy cane afterward. :)

Kroger and Meijer both sells Sanders Fudge. If you drive anywhere near Macomb Mall there's still a Sanders Ice Cream shop there too.

GFV and the Museum have changed a LOT in the past 30 years. I wouldn't try to do both in one day since there is so much to see. If you don't mind the cold, I would recommend the Village since a lot of the homes are decked out for the holidays.

I haven't tried the three buck Chuck (I guess it costs more in Royal Oak) yet but my boss buys it by the case. He LOVES it.

I just saw this thread. I had to laugh when I saw Fantasy Land. It is a few blocks from me. My grandpa use to be very involved with the set up when he was younger.
My kids look forward to seeing this evry year.
The volunteers try and update it evry year. But, it is almost exactly like I remeber it as a kid.

:goodvibes nice memory...

I don't know about Fantasyland burning down..The Rotunda in Dearborn burned down in the 60's. Anyway, you can google Fantasyland, it is up and going after Thanksgiving and ends on Christmas Eve..I think. Only $1 for admission, it is at the Band Shell in Lincoln Park set off of Fort Street (north, I think-the direction towards Detroit, coming from Downriver.)

Thanks for the heads up about GF. I remember going through the village at Christmas. We froze our behinds off, but it was great. I figured it had grown too much to see both that and the museum on the same day. I will always remember the chair that Lincoln was shot in..and the blood..I never shook that since I was 10 years old. I just bought WARM, WARM WARM winter coats for my boys and myself, so we should be warm enough. We are going to need them next week, it looks like the low 30's for Thanksgiving! How can you guys stand that???

I think the Two Buck Chuck HAS increased to $3. I didn't know they had changed the name, but I guess that makes sense. ;)

OK help a guy out from Battle Creek.....what is two buck or three buck chuck????

I'll be flying to NC to see my aunt & uncle in mid December (my mom & aunt are orig. from Detroit) I always have to pick up Saunders fudge for my aunt and we have ice cream sundaes when I'm there!!!! I buy it at Meijer.

Too bad about the meet, maybe if you try it in the spring I can attend.....

Two Buck Chuck is cheap errr....well...its bad cheap wine. Very, very bad.

No, you cannot do both Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum in one day. Well, you could try, but I wouldn't suggest it. If you're visiting during the Holiday season, choose the Village as there's a lot more to do there. And when (and if) you get down to the Daggett farm house (circa 1760) please ask the presenters why their house isn't decorated for Christmas like everyone else's. They're just dying to tell you...trust me.

if you have a meet in the spring, i might possibly be able to make it..

i'll be in orlando mid-may, so i might be in detroit for end-May...

gotta hit great lakes crossing and stock up :goodvibes

I don't drink wine so I couldn't tell you, but a lot of people where I work just rave about it.

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody !!!! Have a great day!!!!! If you are traveling, stay safe and buckle up!!! Good Luck to the LIONS !!!

Three buck Chuck is a nice tasting wine - I really enjoyed the White Zinfandel that came out earlier this year - really smooth! Worth giving it a try IMHO.

#1Hockeymom - Thanks for the laughs. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: After today's performance we can either laugh or cry. I prefer to Laugh! :lmao: :lmao:

Oops! Where are my manners? I forgot to wish everyone a "Happy Thanksgiving!".

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving, and thanked our ahem.. Detroit lions for the comic entertainment! Who said you can't laugh before you've had too much wine? LOL

Maybe not for much longer. Lots of people are calling for Detroit to lose the Thanksgiving game (all together, not just because of how they play! :rotfl2: ) because they've been such a bad team for so long. The feeling is that the nationally featured games should be between teams people want to see, and no one wants to see the Lions.

Hi all. I live in SE Michigan as well (Rochester Hills) for the time being. I lost my job three weeks ago and my husband back in June. So we might not be living here much longer. Where would you move to?

Great thread!

North Carolina.......great state.....My brother in law worked for Ford (plant Mngmnt), quit there and moved to NC (Raleigh area)..they love it there.......in that area schools are year round.....2 weeks off every 2 mos., my sister in law has started teaching- she loves it too!!
They both graduated from MSU.
I have an aunt & uncle who worked/lived Detroit, they now live in Pinehurst NC. Thats more of a retirement area. I'm going there in 7 days.

Good weather, you are close to the ocean if you want it & not too far from Disney!!!!!

Sorry to hear about the job situation, tough times right now for everyone. Hang in there!!

I've never wondered over here before. Look what I've been missing. I'm over here in Hartland. I see a few neighbors here. We are leaving for Disney on Sunday and we are so excited. This will be our first family trip there. It's been a long time for me. Well, I'm glad to have found this board.
