Everything Michigan....

We went to ZooBoo tonight. The girls enjoyed dressing up and seeing other kids dressed up too. I was hoping for a few more trick or treat stops, but that was ok. The train ride was decked out in its Halloween finest. We plan to return next weekend and ride the hay ride then as my DH couldn't attend with us today.

So anyone know what the zoo does for Christmas? I ahve been searching the internet but have not found anything useful.

There is a new Sonic in Southgate. DH was soooo excited. They had them when he lived in Tulsa and he has been craving a cherry limeade for years!

My Kzoo daughter and her family were at ZooBoo yesterday, too!

We saw Bill Cosby about 4 yrs ago at Soaring Eagle casino. He was great :) couldn't believe how long his show lasted.

I know I'll be giving away my age or you'll find out I'm an Oldie on this thread, but my high school boyfriend and I went to Cobo Hall in the late 60s to see Bill Cosby. We paid $2 each.

Sonic? You have a Sonic up there? There's only one that I know of in the Detroit area, and it is so far on the wrong side of town for us that Flint is probably closer.

Are you talking about the drive in that is east of Flint off of 69? We keep meaning to get up there for a movie when we are in the area, but never end up sticking around late enough.

Does anyone who lives up there remember Pennywhistle Place? It used to be near Crossroads Village when I was a kid, and I was so disappointed to learn it closed. I remember that place being really cool (right up there with Disney's River Country waterpark in places that stick out in my otherwise vague childhood memories), and it is such a shame that it isn't there for me to take my kids to.

Yes, it just opened last week. There is like a 45 minute wait just for the drive threw. It's crazy.

No, you're thinking of Miracle Twin. US-23 is off Fenton Rd. in Grand Blanc.

I remember Pennywhistle Place. I hadn't been in years, but of course when I wanted to take my kids it had already closed.

I was so sad when I found out Pennywhistle was closed. I guess they didn't have the money to keep it going. I also heard it wasn't very safe which I thought was weird. It seemed safe when I went there as a kid. They've got a splashpad there now and a playground. It's not as much fun as Pennywhistle though.

The zoo does lights, you can walk all around....I dont know if the train runs in the winter.. .... I dont think you go back to the Africa part at Christmas. Downtown BC does a lot of lights too.....its nice by the river and Clara's Restaurant......

I don't think they're going to this or next summer. But the guy that owns it is getting up there in years. I wish I had enough money to do something like that. I always loved the drive-in. I thought that Bush was gonna eliminate Daylight Savings. Guess he forgot or something.

They should definately revitalize Flint. Get people to start coming back here. We've got alot of fun things to do. Nope. Just went back on Miller Rd. last night and I'm glad to see construction's done. I've been DYING to go to Sonic! DBF thinks their food sucks, nevermind he's never been there! Poor poor cluess man. :confused3 I am making a plan to go though. I'm gonna try to do it before the snow falls cause I don't know if they'll bring my food out in freezing temps and that's part of the draw, I think. Silly fun but fun just the same.

Have you been to Red Robin yet? Mmmmm. delicious! And ya can't beat the never-ending fries!

I know its a long drive for all of you but in Coldwater Michigan they have a great Drive-in (family owned), 2 screens (facing eachother), 4 movies a night!!!!! I think Tuesday nights its $10 per car, no matter how many you cram in there!!!! The food is reasonable too!!!

Kalamazoo has a Sonic & red Robin, I have never tried either.....I might now though!!!

DH and I want to move over your way. It fell through this summer, but keeping fingers crossed for next spring!!!

Glad to hear there is a Sonic there. It took years to get one in Flint and I'd hate to give it up. Red Robin is awesome. Their crispy chicken burger....oh...(drool).....

There is a drive-in in Muskegon too. The Getty drive-in. I think they have 4 screens. We've been a few times and they kids love it.

We have a Red Robin in Holland also. DD loves to go there, but DH not so much.

Not so bad here for mid Oct. I think we are in the 50's today and it is nice and sunny here at the moment. Perfect weather for watching a cross country meet this afternoon and a football game tomorrow.

HEY, anyone here a graduate of Adrian College, Aquinas College or Saginaw Valley State? DD is looking at those schools (along with CMU but DH and I both went there) for next year. Any thoughts? We have visited them all and we are going back to each one to check out there athletic training programs. DD likes them all for different reasons and can't eliminate any yet. Although I think the rankings have changed somewhat since our second visits to CMU and Aquinas. Adrains is tomorrow and Saginaw next week.

DIS MEET AT GREAT LAKES CROSSING:

I'd like to have at least 12 people signed up for the DIS meet on 11/15.

Please see post #1 for details.

Everyone is welcome! You don't have to be A MI resident to come. If you want to make the drive, you are more than welcome to do so. Just PM me and I'll give directions to Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills Mi.

Planning to try and show up for the meet - it's been a long time since I've been able to attend one here. And I'm way overdue for a trip up to Great Lakes Crossing.

Is anyone watching Channel 7 news right now? They have the old timers doing the news. Bill Bonds and John Kelly and Marilyn Turner are reporting the news .:scared: WOW, I haven't seen John Kelly in about 25 years. :scared1:

All that big curly gray hair it looks like a colonial re-inactment.

The last time I saw them they looked like this:

Just dropping in! Until 4years ago I had been living in Michigan my entire life. Most of the time in Suttons Bay (Traverse City).

I love visiting the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leland, Mackinaw City/Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, and further into the UP. Growing up my family didn't have a lot of money so we never went to WDW or out of state on vacation, it was always a week camping around the UP.

My parents live in Frankfort these days but DBF's family is in TC.

Have a lot of you spent time in the UP? When I went to UofM for a few semesters (the art school wasn't focused enough so I transferred) a lot of the students (mostly from Detroit suburbs) I talked to were not familiar with much north of Traverse City and it surprised me.

We have property and a cabin in Paradise! Dh and Ds visit more than I do, but I'm up there a few times a year to go there or for a hockey tournament. I love the UP!

Hey Michigan DISers, are any of you from or familiar with Oakland County? We're looking around at houses, and came across one in Keego Harbor that is well within our price range, but I know virtually nothing about the area and online research only goes so far. Anyone have any info to share about Keego Harbor or West Bloomfield schools?

Just a note on the DisMeet, I'd like to sign up, but my very good friend's birthday party is going on in Lansing that day and I can't 100% commit at this time.

That depends on where in Keego Harbor. Generally, Oakland is a well off county with good schools. For instance, West Bloomfield schools are pretty good. However, Pontiac (which Keego Harbor also serves)....eh, not so much. Point of fact, Pontiac schools are pretty bad from what I've heard (DH's younger counsins go there).
