Everything Michigan....

Wow, I don't know how it took me so long to find this thread! So many memories...

I grew up in St Clair Shores, and my family is Hamtramck/Poletown Polish so I spent a lot of time in the city as a kid. I remember during the Devils Night years many of my friends weren't allowed to go into the city at all, even for Tigers and Wings games, and I was spending most of my weekends there! My grandfather had Tiger season tickets, so I easily went to 30 games a season from the time I was very small, and even got to see one game of the 84 Series. :goodvibes

I miss the old stadium.:sad1:

Now we live in southern St Clair county, so I don't spend as much time in the city as I used to.

Boblo - Did anyone see that they're restoring one of the boats? It was open as a haunted house last fall to raise money for the restoration, but we didn't make it down. I was hoping they'd do the same this year, but I haven't heard anything about it.

The captain of one of the Boblo boats was somehow related to my grandfather, and one of my favorite childhood memories is getting to see the controls and everything on one of our trips to the island.

The ruins of Detroit website - When I was in college, I e-mailed back and forth with the person who set up that site, which was then running on an Oakland U server. I went to U of Detroit Mercy myself, and that's when I really got into photography as a hobby. Michigan Central Station was the first place I ever shot with my first SLR. No place other than Disney has ever been quite as inspiring to me as Detroit, and I still make the trek once or twice a year to explore a bit with my camera.

Hudsons - one of my best friends was living downtown when it was demolished, and we went down to see it. And late that night, after the dust had settled and we'd spent a bit of time at a club I used to hang out at, we snuck through a hole in the fence around the property to take a brick as a souvenir. My mom's first job was at that store, and she loved getting that brick in her stocking at Christmas. :lmao:

It's a small world. I, too, grew up in St. Clair Shores. I now live in Sterling Heights (30 years) and my son is currently a senior at U of D Mercy. Where did you go to high school?

Good morning Michiganders!! It is going to be another beautiful day! Yesterday was just perfect! Today will be the same. I can't believe that I actually put the ac on in my car yesterday. I thought summer was over! I am crossing my fingers that on Halloween night that it will be a nice and warm so children can enjoy trick or treating without wearing their jackets. Anyways.. I hope everyone have a wonderful day.. enjoy! Happy Monday!

I changed the name of the title. ;)

I also started a thread on the Meet board for our upcoming DIS Meet at Great Lakes Crossing on November 15th. Put a link on there for this thread hoping to get more MI DISers to come over here.

NOV 15??? Opening day of firearm deer season....sorry will be hunting!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

In no particular order:

The Grand Traverse resort and the wineries around there - our favorite romantic, kid-free spot

The ranch outside of Muskegon and Michigan's Adventure amusement park with the kids

Alpena/Posen to visit family

My family has land near Baldwin, where we camp.

Not really a vacation, but we do stay overnight - we never miss the Renaissance Festival, except in years when we have newborns (both my girls are late summer babies)

And of course the Irish Hills and MIS

Colleen,
Did you say Baldwin?? Go there all the time......buddy of mine has a cabin there.....In fact will be going there Nov. 1-4. His cabin is west of town.....
We turn left at Big Star Grocery (south end of Baldwin), go about 5 miles.
Nice little cabin on Oxbo Lake. I love it there.......We have looked in to buying a lot by him several times.....but we end up spending our money on our Disney trips!!!!!

We kayak the Piere Marquette all the time.....Have you ever been in Baldwin for the Troutorama festival?? We go to that every year......I think this year was our 18th !!!!

Also, DW and I do Grand Traverse resort usually every Feb. for a weekend retreat......DW gets rooms half off through her employer...We love it there too...

Good luck!

Where do you hunt? I used to hunt in Mikado.
I haven't gone in 10 years though. :guilty:

I gun hunt in Jackson Co. east side.......awesome place to hunt.....I am very fortunate.....
I bow hunt around Battle Creek.....I'm friends with a logger who owns 700 acres....I have a 120 acre parcel to myself there.....I have a few smaller properties close to my house......We eat about 3 deer every year!!!!!

I also bow hunt (see prev. post) in Baldwin area on state land......thats more of a get away with the guys type thing......only have shot a few small doe there........bucks are always too small........the corn fed deer are in Southern Mi !!!!!!

My son is also a senior at U of D. I think you and I mentioned this before; long time ago....maybe when they were just freshmen. :)

I like this title even better! :thumbsup2 I thought there was another thread about and anything Michigan.. but it was the title that got changed. I like it.. Everything Michigan!

Today is a gloomy day.. wet and cold. Oh well.. I think Fall is finally trying to set in. I hope everyone is having a good week.

You guys ready to watch the 3rd and final presidential debate?

I like shopping at Great Lakes Crossing. Maybe I'll stop by for DIS Meet.

BTW... I think I finally found a "home" here. I am in no "cliques" with anyone or with any thread.. but here.. I feel like I can talk about anything.. and everything about Michigan and whatever else there is..

Thank you for this thread and I'll try to bump it up whenever I can so this thread won't get lost or go too far back.

Careful!! ;) Disney recruits heavily from Binder Park for AK, or so we're told.

BrerMom- do you work at Binder Park Zoo?
You're right about the comparrison to AK, Although I find that portions of the Wild Africa exhibit are nicer than some of those at AK.

Fall is awesome in MI......I guess I didnt realize it until I met someone from CA, who had never seen trees change color like we have.....Cider and donuts...

You are so right about fall in Michigan. As someone who is originally from California I must say that it is quite impressive! On my street alone we have a nice assortment of colors. My yard especially, lol.

As we are new to Michigan we'll be driving (instead of making a cross country flight) down next month. Any advice on routes to take? How long does it typically take you? Our current plan is to leave on a Friday around noon and drive to Chatanooga, then finish the drive the next day.

I know we were talking about the old Kelly & Company show on this thread a while back............I saw on TV today that on Tuesday at 10am they're starting to celebrate 60 years of channel 7 & it'll include a best of Kelly & Company show & I think that John Kelly & Marilyn Turner are going to be there too.
