Everyone with a bedspread death wish, check in here!

Add me & my family to the list too.

Hey I don't scrub down the monorail/boats/buses or rides before I sit on them either. I guess I am a grub.

There are germs everywhere. We cannot eliminate germs 100%. I'm also guilty of using the bedspread. I don't like the way the room looks without them. I do admit that I'm going to spray lysol on them for this trip! :confused3

I too use the bedspreads. But alas, :guilty: I know bring the Lysol spray and wipes. I have been to the world 5 times in the last 3 years. The first three trips, either myself, my BF, or both of us got sick. So on the forth trip, I Lysol'd everything!! Bedspread, carpet, curtains, chairs, sinks, if it didn't move...it got sprayed. I use the wipes on the remote control, all door handles and all handles in the bathroom/sink areas. Neither did my boyfriend or myself get sick. Same thing on the last trip. In fact, I ran into mousekeeping, and she said she loved the smell of my Lysol and bought some for her home! I don't remember the name, but its in the pink can.

So, what bracket does this put me in.... :confused3 I use everything, walk barefoot, but I use Lysol.

Chris

Thanks for the tip. The key is not to go overboard in either direction. I do clean phone, switches, remote and I remove bedspread. It's not unreasonable since we know a lot of people, men, women and children use the bathroom and don't wash their hands. You could be touching someone's dried pee or poop and then eating a snack in your room. Even if you don't get sick it's still disgusting. :rolleyes1

There is a thread over on Theme park board. She said her kids came back from Disney with lice. Hope you didn't stay in their room the week after they did. They didn't find them till they got back. That is why I don't use the bedspreads, blankets or pillows. They can't wash them. I am not scared of germs they are everywhere but the bugs that freaks me out.

I've devolped a game I like to play when I check in to room at a Disney resort. Here is my check list and tell me what you think.

1. We all take turns pushing all of the buttons on the elevator. I make sure no one in the family is left out of getting their fair share of germs from those dirty buttons. :rotfl:

2. I give my kids points on how many room door handles they can touch while walking down the hall. After touching those buttons on the elevator I think it's only fair to spread the wealth as they say. You get more points if you see some one cleaning their door handle with a lysol wipe then go back into their room. This is the door you touch twice! :rotfl:

3. When we arrive to our room we all must (in this order)

Take off our shoes and walk barefoot on the carpet for 10 minutes.

Everyone touches the tv remote (twice)

We all must drink out of the glasses the hotel provides.
Lay on the bed spread and roll around 3 times. (clothing optional)

Get down on our hands and knees and crawl on the carpet for 10 minutes. (You get double points if you find a old potato chip or candy bar wrapper!)

Then we all head down to the pool and hot tub to soak and add up our points to see who won! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :teeth: :teeth:

If you have ever had a family member under go chemo or any illness that compromises someone's immune system you have to worry about the germs on the remote, the bedspread, the bathroom, door handles...etc... We never leave home without the Lysol!!!!!!

These are definitely extenuating circumstances, and I also would definitely then be allot more careful, like when my son's girlfriend comes to visit, being allergic to cats, I CAREULLY vacuum furniture and carpets, and wipe surfaces well, but we are talking about the everyday normal child who is getting screamed at for touching the elevator button!!!

I think there's a happy medium. I'm half and half about the bed spread, but if I'm freezing at night, I'll pull it up. Like one person said, if everyone pulls off the spread, then what about the blanket, it never ends!!! Never actually thought about the remote, hmmmm. I sit on the toilet in a public restroom, but use my foot to flush. If I'm in the parks, and eat, I usually don't wash my hands unless I really think they feel cruddy, but after reading some of those threads, I carry Purell, in my purse, but forget to use it!!! :teeth:
Like many have said, it really never ends, the germs are literally everywhere, and if you don't want you or your family never to touch them, I guess the choice it to never leave home!!!

Your post reminded me of something. I am guilty of carry those tissue toilet seat covers with me and I do use them. Charmin makes them. So I guess I am a germaphobe to an extent! :guilty:

I always use the bedspread. My method for not worrying about germs? I don't read those threads. This is the first "bedspread" thread I've read (pardon the rhyming).

You just know that this only proves the germphobes point? "We can't use the bedspread! All of those people used it!" (much pointing at the Bedspread Deathwish Club).

The only thing I've ever gotten from a publicly shared item was a chemical burn from an overly clean toilet. Yowch!

This is a great list!! I think I'm going to have to adopt it for my family! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I never even thought much about it....UNTIL PEOPLE POSTED THINGS HERE!!! :p

HEY!!! You took the words right out of my mouth!!! :goodvibes

Yes, we sit on them, but we don't use them at night . . . they CANNOT touch our faces . . . it's all the DISs fault! :rolleyes1

DH thinks I'm nuts :confused3

I have to admit, I don't pay that much attention to it. Some germs are actually healthy for you. Besides, DS3.5, who had been trained for 1.5 years without an accident just got so tired at Disney midtrip he had an accident. We called mousekeeping (throughly embarrassed) & they told us not to worry about it--happens at least twice a night. They took ALL the bedding to wa****, treated the mattress, & then replaced it with all fresh bedding (including bedspread). Anyhow, if it really does happen at least twice a night (AKL), then it can't be THAT bed.
