Everybody's Celebrating Something! No Questions Asked!

Birthdays are once a year....seems kind of black and white to me. If its may 23, its my birthday. If its may 24th, its not. If I'm wearing a button that says "its my birthday!"and its may 23rd, then the integrity of the message is there. Its really not rocket science.

So, because I was in the hospital on my anniversary, taking IV antibiotics, I can't celebrate my anniversary? Because my friend's Marine grandson can't come home on his birthday, he loses the opportunity to celebrate his birthday?

You need to relax and take off those judgy pants.

My husband came home from the middle east last year (he was gone a little over a year) and we went to Disney. Darn right we celebrated six missed birthdays, one wedding anniversary, and all the holidays in between. And *gasp* not on any of the actual dates! But according to our buttons we were just celebrating "Our Family is Whole Again!"

If this makes my family immoral or lacking integrity in some of your eyes, so be it. I really feel very sorry for those of you who are at Disney World and can't help but be concerned whether or not someone is wearing a button on the proper day. Sounds like you are super fun to be on vacation with.

You just have no morals you big old liar liar!:happytv:

There is so much in life that is worth celebrating. I too wonder if the the people that are so against it ever have celebrated anything on a different day.

Military families, thank you for all you do. I'm terrified of joining you come fall when mine goes in. Frankly I am trying to celebrate every moment of every day now and will continue whenever we see him.

Because I have no morals...tell that to my marine poolee.

I wonder how many people would buy pins if they start charging?

Lol I bet only a few. I was at dl once and saw a whole family with one if each if the pins. All of them! Cracked me up! We were in fl together and crossed paths in a couple lines. The cm's were having fun teasing them and goofing.

Heck, Disney even has an entire song about celebrating your UNBIRTHDAY.

Live a little...make every day a celebration!

I'm planning on getting a "My First Visit" button and "Happy Birthday" button for my son when we go. But he's another one that it won't be his ACTUAL birthday. His birthday is early September and that didn't work out for travel so we are going in later September. But he's four (well he will be at the time), and it's going to be an amazing trip (I hope).

I do think it's a little pathetic if adults get the buttons hoping for free stuff and then get mad if they don't get it. That is lame (in my opinion), as the free stuff is never guaranteed, and I don't feel it should be expected.

I've not even told my son that it could be an option to get a free cupcake or whatever, b/c then he won't care if nobody says anything or does anything!

I will, however, be thrilled if Mickey says Happy Birthday to him - that will blow his mind :)

My wife is turning...well let's say it's her birthday ...while we are there. Look at all the people we invited to her party!!!!!!

If people would just enjoy their time with their family and not worry about what others are doing then they would be a lot happier.

When I go in September I will have been retired for 3 weeks and I intend to wear a button with pride. ::yay: It was a long time coming. 47 years of working. :scared1:

Congratulations!!!
When my DH retired, he wore his "I'm Celebrating...RETIREMENT" pin. He received lots of smiles and more than a few folks who were very envious. What a fantastic place to celebrate!:cool1:

I totally agree and I get what you are trying to say - where does it end? January bdays celebrated in august, 1st wedding anniversary in May celebrated in october...best friends mothers uncle twice removed just had his gallbladder removed and lived to tell the tale and you are happy about it and are just so happening to be in Disney next week to celebrate it - take your pick. Disers are nortorious for flaming away for people who tell kids to say they are 9 when they turned 10 the day before they arrive, but are perfectly fine with letting junior wear a Happy Birthday button 4 months after their birthday just because little sissy is turning 3 a week after the trip and SHE will get one because they plan on celebrating the birthday in disney because its "close enough" to the trip, but mom just got a promotion so she should get a celebration button, too...but wait! What about Dad??!! Uhhh...uhhhh....OH! Thats right! Dad came in 1st place in his fantasy league last January, so there you go! Pins for everyone!!! Honestly, I don't even notice buttons on people, but from examples of what I've seen people celebrating here...and even worse, the TIMING of said celebrations (meaning celebrating on days other than the actual day of the "event"), everyone should be wearing them. And the poor kiddos who are actually celebrating their birthdays On That Day can go jump in a lake (insert sarcasm here) for daring to try to stand out on a special day just so others won't be left out.
This definitely made me chuckle.

We were there for my sons 6th birthday last year and I bought him the birthday Mickey ears and he got a pin on his actual birthday and he wore it that day only. It felt more authentic and special to me instead of doing it all week. One of the CMs in the confectionary noticed and she and a couple of other CMs joined together and had the whole confectionary sing happy birthday to him. Now that was cute and special and I don't think it would have felt the same if his birthday had not been that day. That being said, if others choose to celebrate differently, then have a grand time.

The thing is, I don't worry about it while I'm at WDW. I'm too busy enjoying my vacation. That doesn't mean that when the subject comes up for discussion, that I can't say that to me so many people wearing buttons cheapens them.

As I said before, I'm not walking through the park looking to rip buttons off of people. But now if I happen to see a birthday button I probably won't offer a Happy Birthday.

Wow. But you would have prior to this thread? Why wouldn't you say Happy Birthday now?

Really? Because if "Susie's" birthday was the day before you will have wasted your breath and happy thoughts for someone who doesn't deserve it?

Lol I'd rather wish people happy things than look at one and think "probably a faker".

The pin's don't say "Today is..."

They say "I'm celebrating..."

My husband and I are going on vacation in September to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Our anniversary is actually in December, but we can't go on the trip then. We planned this trip THREE years ago to celebrate our anniversary. It's been a long time coming, and it couldn't happen in December. I suppose if, god forbid, one of us doesn't make it to the actual anniversary, the other will have to send cards apologizing to anyone who wished us a happy anniversary undeservingly.

Same with a birthday, you can celebrate a birthday on a day that is not your birthday. People can't always go on trips the day of their birthday, but the trip is often a gift to celebrate the birthday, or a planned way to celebrate like a party. There is NO lie involved. There is a huge difference in celebrating the occasion, and saying it is the date of the occasion. If the buttons said "Today is: My birthday", then I could see people getting on their moral high horses.

And I think "I'm celebrating: being in the Magic Kingdom" is a perfectly reasonable occasion to celebrate!

I was thinking something similar except that I just wish that the things people did were normally this minor! I personally don't even notice when people wear pins or whatever.

That cart has definitely been there more than 6 months. We got dd8's birthday button there in march of last year. I've never been bothered by people who are celebrating an occasion on a trip even if it's not the actual date of the occasion. Not everyone is able to take vacation whenever they want. DD8's Birthday is March 31. As an accountant the end of the month is a VERY busy time for me so there is a very good chance dd may never visit on her actual birth date but when we are there in march we still celebrate. Next year we are going on a trip to celebrate dd16's high school graduation, 18th Birthday and dd8's 9th Birthday. None of the actual dates fall within the trip but it's the only time we are able to go and the trip is still to celebrate all of these things. If something as small as a pin can make someone's trip better then who am I to tell them they shouldn't get one because they couldn't make it on a certain date.
