Every Wish That We Put Into Motion.... (comments welcome!)

This seems like A LOT this close to the race. I think your body is telling you to lay off. Any mileage you do now is only going to fatigue you and risk injury, so why push it? It is what it is -- you're undertrained running-wise but your stamina should be awesome from the referee gig. Go have fun with DH and DD in the 5K and do what you can for the rest without wrecking yourself.
This is a fair point. I was just trying to get time on feet, and I was walking a lot more than running in an attempt to not overdo things. Given that I was having almost 2 weeks off from basketball this seemed like something that should have been OK since I am used to being on my feet for about 3 hours at a time (or 8 hours at a time for elementary basketball.) I feel strongly that the treadmill workout is not related to the back thing, and that it was just really bad luck and possibly DD sleeping in our bed for a couple of nights and me trying to keep her OFF of DH since his back was troublesome.

Ugh. This is so crappy. I definitely cried this morning because I was so frustrated with not being able to move and the timing of it all.

I was able to sort-of walk when I got out of bed this morning! Hurray! Improvement! Yesterday, after being very diligent about taking all of my motrin and tylenol ON TIME for the whole day, along with alternating a heat pack and an ice pack, I could stand up straight (but still with my pelvis "tucked") and walk around the house without having to stage chairs to take some of the weight off my left leg. DH has a chiropractor appointment this afternoon, and as long as they didn't close the office today I'm going to call as soon as they open to get in during the same time slot with him. I know from past experiences that once things loosen up that getting adjusted fast-tracks things and I'll hopefully be back to normal on Wednesday.

In FUN news, I'm looking for suggestions for a birthday meal or snack at WDW. We are planning to be in HS for almost the entire day, and I looked through all of the sit-downs and none of them sound particularly appealing. We have park hoppers, so getting into a park for something isn't an issue. But I honestly might be happy with just getting morimoto QS ramen and a dessert somewhere.

For a big breakfast in HS, I'm going to go for the buffet in the 50s cafeteria. If I do that, I load up and then won't eat again until supper.
For lighter fare, I head to Ronto Roasters and get a breakfast wrap.

And sorry to hear about the aches and pains. A thought: if some of the players happen to trip while running past you, it might save you a few sprints up and down the court. Just a suggestion from, um, a friend.... ;-)

If I'm not significantly better by tomorrow I'll be calling my assigner and cancelling the 2 nights I'm supposed to work this weekend because it's not worth the $360 if I'm going to be sore and miserable at Disney. And even then, I might see if DH would split the games on the 2nd night.

Hear me out: the Cobb salad at Brown Derby is TO DIE FOR! You can sub things in or out if you're picky and everything is chopped up and super easy to eat. It's huge and filling and their bread is also amazing. I have it at least twice every MW. You can do a walk-up at the little bar area outside if you don't want to book at the restaurant. They also have a grapefruit cake on their desert menu that is YUM!

Of all the places in HS that I looked at, Brown Derby looked the best. But I got major sticker shock from the pricing. This is also going to be (potentially, if I want to do the meal ON my birthday) the day before the HM, so I'm a little leery of the timing and having that much salad.

Trattoria al Forno on the Boardwalk is good and good for carb loading.

The food at Woody’s Roundup is decent and also good before a race. The theming is meh and pricing is too much, but what else is new at Disney.

If you want to hop, you can’t go wrong with Garden Grill.

Yesterday:
Braved the roads (DH drove) and got into the chiro's office yesterday. He was able to adjust me, and with how inflamed and tight everything was we knew there was a possibility that he wouldn't be able to. So that was good. By dinner time I could walk 90% normally, use the stairs, and stand up from sitting without bracing myself/push with my arms and using really specific movements. Well shoot! Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow and be sore from being adjusted, but otherwise pretty good!

Today:
Nope. Hobbling again this morning, although the stiffness/tightness is in a different area, which means it probably is just soreness from being adjusted. I'm icing, heating, and motrin-ing and assuming that things will get better as the day goes on. Things WILL get better as the day goes on, dang it!

I still need to sew my skirt for the 5k, start packing, finish cleaning the house for MIL to come over. I have an ID verification facetime this morning for subbing, so I need to track down my passport (again.) I made our initial grocery order, we made Lightning Lanes for 2 days, and I'm so ready for my body to feel better and be on vacation.

OK. I'm getting nervous now. Things are still pinchy and (probably at least 50% because I hunched over my sewing machine for my 5k skirt) my mid-back was completely locked up yesterday. If I had to do the 5k today, I would not be able to do it.

You guys. I convinced DH to do more park days than we usually do. Like 6. And I'm still hobbling around the house, maxing out on Motrin, and icing 4x a day. I have a massage this morning, and if the chiro is in the office (same building) today I'm going to see if he can squeeze me in after that, otherwise I have an appointment with him tomorrow and that's my last chance to physically address this before I have to sit in a car for 4 hours and then get on an airplane Sunday.

This is one of those things that once everything is back where it should be, and the muscles get the message that I'm not *actually* falling apart and relax, I will be fine. I promise. I've had this before (though not this bad, and not for a few years) so I know what the pattern is. This is just the absolute worst timing that could happen. Now I get to have body stress AND travel stress!

I was the only person with a massage appointment yesterday. Our masseuse shares office space with our chiropractor, and they have operated out of 2 offices for 20 years and are finally closing the office that is further away. Yesterday was moving day for the masseuse, and she only gave me an appointment because she really likes us. I was scheduled for an hour, but she ended up working on me for 90 minutes. I was on my stomach the entire time, which arches my lower back slightly, and while I felt completely fine while I was lying there, when I got up to leave, I immediately knew that being in that position for so long had not done me any favors. I hobbled out of the front desk to pay, and then sat in a chair in the waiting room for about 10 min, bending and stretching forward to try to un-kink things enough that I could safely walk to my car. She escorted me out there in case I needed help getting from the handrail to the car door. At home I spent a lot of time with an ice pack on my back (story of my life this week!) and after dinner I was able to do some packing. But I still couldn't stand completely upright; I tiled forward at the hips at around a 15-20 degree angle, and my pelvis didn't want to un-tuck. I cried a lot. This is so incredibly frustrating, and I desperately do not want to "ruin" this trip for DH and DD. I only care about the 5k at this point. The HM is on the table ONLY if I feel 100% by next Friday, and toeing the line for the M will only happen if I'm not a disaster after the HM. And even then, I will absolutely pull myself off the course if things start going poorly.

This morning I feel the best I've felt in a week. My back is tender where she worked on it yesterday (this isn't a surprise) but I'm more upright, I didn't have the twinges and pinches when I was maneuvering myself out of bed. I can stand more upright, but I'm still staying off my feet as much as possible so I don't clench my back up before my chiropractor appointment at 1145. I gave in and made an appointment with my dr's office this afternoon where I will absolutely be requesting muscle relaxers in the event that the combination of ice, motrin, tylenol, massage, and chiropractic adjustment all fail me and I'm still not fully functional for the trip.

A scooter rental for the trip costs more than our rental car. And sitting in a chair at our kitchen table makes my back clench up, so I'm not sure how much sitting a scooter chair would do for me anyway.

I'll take all of the Ts&Ps, good vibes, sacrifices to Jobu, or whatever you've got that today's adjustment fixes things and that the provider at the dr office (not my usual doc as she's not in/available today) doesn't brush me off as being "drug seeking for back pain" so I have a back up plan.

This totally sucks and I'm so sorry! You know I'll be there however you need me, whether it's to drag you across the HM finish or support your decision to drop out at any point.
