Every Wish That We Put Into Motion.... (comments welcome!)

OH! I also tried a maurten100 caf. gel on one of my runs! Well, I ate it before my run because I wasn't sure how the flavor would be and there's nothing worse than having a gross gel flavor stuck in your taste buds. It was totally fine. It was like a jello version of meringue, and I very much like meringue. I also like that the flavor didn't get stuck in my mouth. I'll probably splurge on a few of these for the HM and M.

When you are disappointed with the skirt you had mentally planned your marathon clothing around, because you are trying to keep things on a budget for costumes this year....

do NOT join a custom fabric group. Because HOLY GRACIOUS I could drop like $150 right now to get all of the fabric for a whole bunch of skirts to make. And they wouldn't even be FOR mw.

Weekly wrap up:

At least I think I got all of my dining reservations made??

Looking back at last Sunday, our day went sideways right off the bat. We picked up DD from my parents' on Saturday evening, and she had hit her ankle or something that afternoon when she tripped over the blocks in their living room while on a full run. Well on Sunday morning she was being very dramatic, and combined with the swelling and bruising we decided to be safe and go get an xray to make sure it wasn't broken. It took a little longer than we thought it might (not broken!), and we didn't have time to drive her back home and still get to our referee training on time. That meant we were going to be taking a feisty 5 year old to a 3 hour training where she would need to be quiet. We grabbed new coloring stuff and playdoh and hoped for the best. She ended up doing great, but what a morning!

Monday--Refereed basketball for 2 hours. I got to referee DS3's team (we asked our assigner to put DH or myself on his games so we can make it to as many as possible, and it's not an issue since it's just middle school; in HS that won't happen.)

Tuesday--And then I discovered all of the little muscles I use for refereeing that "just" running doesn't train.

Wednesday--The time change is crushing me. And I woke up at 3am for no reason. Was I able to go back to sleep? Of course not. My lower back also got really grouchy with me starting on this day. Things in my hips were cranky, and it was traveling down into my legs, but not sciatic nerve pain. I ended up getting into the chiro on Friday because this lingered all week and she suggested I get a massage from a provider who is in their building and then get adjusted right after in the next few weeks because I was really tight and a lot harder to adjust than usual. I've been putting off getting the massage, but it's been on my radar with some lower left leg tightness/knotting that I don't want to turn into a strain this year.

Thursday--ADR day! I had already reserved Raglan Road and Paddlefish through OpenTable, so all I needed to do was grab Sanaa for Thursday dinner since the phone CM was unable to make any reservations for us for the 2nd leg of our stay (womp, womp.) This was another terrible night of sleep, really most of the week was.

Friday--We had a really hard frost, and I very much dislike running when it's below 45. I also couldn't find the safe place I had put the treadmill safety key (DD has started turning the treadmill on and then trying to run on it and it's so quiet that I can't always hear when she does this) so no run again. *sigh*

Saturday--Time to "make up" all those missed runs with SIX HOURS of refereeing with no real breaks. I think the longest gap we had between games was 10min, and that was basically long enough to use the bathroom, chug a powerade, and shove a no-longer-hot concessions stand hotdog in my face hole. Soooo yeah. Long run? Check. Even if I cut this in half for "equivalence" I'm counting it as a double digit miles run. Thoughts for how this ties in with marathon training: I wore my compression socks all day for this; my legs were tired but otherwise fine at the end, but the nails on my big toes were....not sore, but irritated maybe? They didn't like the socks pushing on them all day. I have the newest model of the NB1080s for refereeing and they do feel a little different from previous years' models. I'm noticing more tightness in my right achilles/soleus than I'm used to (that's usually a left leg thing) but these feel fine otherwise.

Sunday (today)--I'm debating running today since I have 3 hours of refereeing tomorrow, and it's probably going to be 8th grade boys. That means more running and less walking/standing. If I do anything it'll probably be a walk on the treadmill to loosen things up and do some active recovery. I did grab my remaining ADRs this morning: Homecomin' for BIL/SIL (we are discussing adding DH to that since it's a brunch ressie and I'll still be running) and Turf Club at Saratoga for dinner after the marathon. If we don't have a rental car, we can take resort park bus up to the restaurant, and then hobble back after. And they have scallops.

Umm...you're not? 😍 It's amazing!!
I knooooooowwwwww. It's $30/yard plus shipping. I could easily get 2 sparkle skirts out of a yard (assuming the print runs the width and not the length) and have a decent amount of leftover (but not enough for a 3rd skirt.) It's by the full-yard only, and I'm trying to decide if I need *other* prints as well. :rolleyes1

But for real. When would I wear it? IDK.

If anyone is interested in looking at the rest of the collection, shoot me a PM and I'll send you the store link and password.

Soooo, I bought the Merida fabric. And now I'm on the hunt for an idea for the marathon (and seeing if I can circle back to that "birthday" idea we had for the group costume that I feel like kinda fizzled out?)

Snooping through the interwebs, I checked out topstitch couture's page and saw this super pretty skirt. Way out of my budget, but pretty!

The ribbon-curl top layer is a great play on the background of the goofy "I'm celebrating" button

And then I wondered how it might look if I could come up with a sparkle athletic style skirt in that print. Or possibly their ruffle-style skirt, just not in sequined fabric. ( would totally buy a ruffle foot for my sewing machine if I went this route.)

AND THEN I went on spoonflower to see if there was a similar fabric.
Oh look! It's *the* fabric!

Yall. I'm down the rabbit hole on this. Is it possible this could be as easy as it seems?

Could also go with a different color palette for the birthday button?

If you're looking to sew your own skirt (not tutu), this pattern is really good:
https://greenstyle.com/en-ca/products/rally-skirt-pdf-pattern-sizes-b-m

It comes with a few different lengths, so you'd be able to do the layering like your inspiration picture easily.

If you go down the sewing your own running clothes rabbit hole, let me know and I can give you some more recommendations :)

Received the shirt I was going to use for the HM today, and it was supposed to be a unisex medium in light blue. What I received was YOUTH medium in black. *sigh* I'm not convinced about the fabric, but I can't even evaluate with the comically small shirt they sent me.

Weekly wrap-up:

Training continues to be a ****show.

After Saturday's 6-straight-hours of reffing, I decided to take Sunday off (looking at the refereeing schedule to come.) But what day was I actually sore? MONDAY.

Sunday: rest/recovery
Monday: 3hrs of 7th and 8th grade boys basketball refereeing. Tired legs, but no "too tired" if that makes any sense.
Tuesday: I don't remember Tuesday. WOO!
Wednesday: 2hrs of refereeing. Spent almost an hour in zone 3 for HR (and the other hour in zone 2) Also, my back/hips are messed up again. Super fun.
Thursday: let the runaround begin! Took DD out to my parents to spend 3 nights because firearm deer hunting season opens on Friday. Got things set up for hunting locations on public land (always a little nerve-wracking, and we try to be in treestands and not on the ground for safety purposes) and all of the last minute details. Got a lot of walking in the woods done for this. Let's just call it "hiking."
Friday: Was up a tree by 630am, and was there for most of the day. Saw 4 deer, but nothing of legal size, or at least nothing big enough to be worth the trouble of processing. Discovered that my stand location was terrible in relation to the number of people driving in/around (aka road-hunting.)
Saturday: Pulled down our treestands midday, and moved things around. So much walking and carrying heavy things. Totally counting as cross training. Also made my foot angry in my boots.
Sunday: Hunting success for me. And now battling the start of whatever cold DH picked up. Again. This is like the 5th cold this fall. I'm so over being sick.

I may have purchased the green-with-a-red-bow dottie today from the sale. Perfect for a turkey trot as a Christmas theme! Also a few ideas for future races....

Still no ideas for the marathon though. Ugh.

My fav is the coach, but Amon Ra St Brown is pretty much the star, right?
Dan Campbell is awesome. I agree. Idk if I would say st brown is THE star though. Hutchinson is a Detroit kid, so he has a ton of fans (our governor pardoned a turkey that was named in his honor….something “Cluckinson”) and fans like to chant Jared Goff at other Detroit sports teams’ events.

Are you looking at Nike drift jerseys or something else?

Such a cute skirt! Can't wait to see pictures.

I had a "game" jersey that I tried to run in but the seams were way too thick. I ordered the Nike Legend Performance Top online and ran in it last week and it was perfect.

Looks like lots of Detroit players are available. https://www.nflshop.com/detroit-lions/t-36377931+z-9432566-482725144?query=Nike Player Performance Top&_ref=p-SRP:m-SIDE_NAV

Edit to add: Absolutely NO pressure to do this if you aren't feeling it! But since you were blanking on ideas, I thought it might be fun. I'm slightly afraid to jinx us but feeling pretty confident.

And they're on sale!! Ooooh. I'm gonna have to think really hard about this. I don't really have an obvious tie-in for Disney like you do with Kermit off the top of my head.

Not that you need to do it, but if you want to tie it to Disney, for mashups, I always think in terms of color. So what Disney characters are blue or dressed in blue a lot? Donald, Elsa, Belle, Jasmine, Cinderella (that could be fun since Detroit is a bit of a Cinderella team -- more last season than this one though). Cookie Monster, Sam Eagle, Grover for muppets.
