Every Wish That We Put Into Motion.... (comments welcome!)

We for a run. OUTSIDE. It was 40 and sunny today, so I layered up and went for around a 5k easy run. Didn't turn on my autolap, because I wanted to just run however fast or slow felt right, and I knew that if my watch buzzed at me I would be tempted to try to adjust my pace. I definitely felt like I haven't really run since the marathon (only 1 30min run in mid-February) but it also wasn't terrible or bad. I still managed to average my easy pace (without obsessing over it), and kept my HR in zones 2 and 3 for the majority of the run. Now to try to stay consistent. DH is done reffing until summer basketball, it's staying light a lot later in the evening, the time change is next weekend, so I'm optimistic that I'll continue to be able to run outside (unless we get more snow, because then there's no shoulder for me to run on, our road is one of the last to be plowed, etc.)

Now for my complaint. DS1 needed new baseball cleats, and UA had an additional sale going on "outlet" items so while I ordered his cleats I also ordered a "cold gear" running shirt for me that had thumbholes, fold over glove/sleeves, AND a watch window. Yay! No more pulling my sleeves up to see my watch! Except. The watch window is only on the left arm. I am left-handed, so I wear my watch on my right wrist. So this feature is useless to me. Cue the tiny violin music.

I have a great cold weather pullover with watch windows on both sleeves from Brooks. It’s warm enough that I can just wear it over a long sleeve running shirt when it’s 0° outside.

There is 0% chance I will run when it's below freezing out, let alone 0! Oh my gracious! I am a delicate flower, and 40.....maaaaaaybe 35 if it's sunny is my absolute limit. I just don't understand why they wouldn't put that split seam on both arms, ya know?
Also, I am frustrated by the general lack of bright colors on insultated running vests. I won't run in the dark, so reflective stuff doesn't make a big difference for me, but sooooo much of it is a DARK color, or white(?!) which are terrible colors for non-daylight hours, or if you live where there's snow.

Another week, more not working out. Woo. At least I'm consistent on making a plan and then not sticking to it. *sigh*

So that plan was to start my LiiftMore+running hybrid calendar on Monday. And I did. I did the workout on Monday, and it felt really good (although the transitions are really short and they work through the reps a little faster than I would prefer.) DS1 had his first round of games for district playoffs for basketball. They won; no surprise there as the team they were playing had only won 3x all season. They played again on Wednesday, got beat soundly, and we are DONE with basketball for this year. Hallelujah! So basketball, combined with a few other items cropping up (like the vehicle shuffle we've had to do since the transmission in my vehicle went out a week and a half ago) completely messed this week up for me on a lot of fronts, and I really let it get to me. I'm starting again today, and happily cranked out the first workout again. I've also gone back to the "portion fix" eating style, which mostly means a lot more veggies and a lot fewer "carb" type foods. I'm trying to decide if I want to set a weight loss goal for this year, or if I want to approach it a different way (not sure what that would be, so if anyone has suggestions that aren't "lose x pounds by y date" I'd love to hear them), but no matter what, some weight loss needs to happen.

On a good note, DH and I celebrated our 18th anniversary over the weekend. I pointed out to him that it was really weird that next year we will have been a couple for half of my life next year; it's simply not possible that I'm old enough for that statement to be true!

ALSO, I think I may have convinced DH to do Dopey with me next year. I showed him the galloway training plan because fewer days per week will be necessary for him, and he won't have to start until baseball season (he's the JV coach) is wrapped up, and he said it seemed reasonable. I only got him to this point after I pointed out all of the difficulties associated with registering him for three separate events AND myself before something sells out and messes it all up, and he agreed that it sounded like a recipe for disaster. But, using ALL of the devices, if we get in super fast with an early queue and he feels really strongly about NOT doing the marathon, we would likely be able to register the two of us for everything. In that case, I would log in with his account so it would be prefilled for most of the information and go faster.

BONUS NOTE if you are a person who plans waaaay in advance: Kohls is doing an extra 50% off clearance prices right now (through Saturday I think?), which means they are clearancing out winter stuff, and you could get some super inexpensive throw-away layers for less than what I know my local good-will charges.

I've been meaning to reply here because I'm similar in that I do "hybrid" training of strenth/weight lifting plus running.....and there is some degree of added stress with scheduling and which goal holds more priority during different times of the year. Currently I'm doing 5 days a week strength and 2 runs per week, plus 3 yoga sessions to use as stretching after the runs and one other day. My current plan is to stay as is until August when I switch to running 4/week and then end of Sept run 5/week. (I'm sure I'll alternate plans before I get that far, but I like to have something planned in my head.)

Have you ever tried Intermittent Fasting or Time-Restricted Eating? The good thing about IF/TRF is that you can combine it with any "diet" that you want. I don't follow any particular diet, I just eat what I like, but I eat during 6-8 hours of the day and then no eating the other 16-18 hours. (I'm a bit of an IF snob and am strict about water, black coffee....like in my eyes you can't add lemon or cream/butter, etc.) but anyway thought I would throw it out there as a liftsytle option that could be combined with your colored tupperwares.

Good tip on Kohl's.....I've also already been trying to think of what I'll run in and how I'll stay warm so early in the morning....I have some ideas of long sleep crop tops to keep my arms warm, but I don't know how I feel about throwing them away or tying them around my waist. So much to think about!

Have a good week! I'm looking forward to hearing and chatting about people's goals/training as we approach DL Race weekend.

If you don’t count my coffee, I’ve done IF for yeeaaaarrrrrrs. It doesn’t do anything for me, and moving dinner earlier isn’t an option with our schedules. And my coffee isn’t going anywhere. 😂

My current hybrid plan is supposed to be lifting on M/W/F and running on T/W/Th, and Saturday, Mondays are optional. Sundays are completely off. So theoretically this should work since there’s only 1 double-up day, with a optional 2nd.

With multiple kids, this can be trickier, but have you considered meal prepping? Not even prepping everything necessarily but focusing on the meals where you find you are the most tired, in a rush, just wish you didn’t have to cook. Having food prepared that I can just reheat and not have to think about makes things 100% easier for me. I lost 50 lbs and have maintained it for 4 years? Maybe longer. Don’t really remember at this point. I regularly recommend a food blogger, peanut butter and fitness, to people looking to start. She has basic how-to’s for people who haven’t prepped before, loads of recipes with calorie counts that I have found to be accurate, and most are portioned to 4-6 servings. As she has grown as a cook and blogger her recipes have only gotten better. I still use them regularly.

I have done the meal prepping in the past. And I've tried to do it off and on during the winter. I will definitely check out that blogger for some new ideas. Lunch is the worst for me because suddenly it's 1pm and maybe I haven't eaten yet today, or there's nothing [I really want] in the fridge leftover from previous dinners (because the teenagers portion it out for THEIR lunches when the clean up the table and it might be gone already.) My go-to for prepping is to make sheet pan veggies, brown rice (or garbanzo beans), and some sort of chicken. And I cannot handle counting calories and weighing stuff right now, so color-coded containers it is. ALSO, YES to this being so hard with all of the kids. Figuring out how to feed, fill up, and fuel 2 teenagers that are in sports while also not completely blowing up my food goals is no fun at all.

I'm going to stick to it as best I can until I have my physical in May, and if things aren't really changing then I'll have a conversation with my doc about it.

I don't want to venture into the TPAS board, so I'm going to ask for some experiences in here.
-Potential September trip for DD's birthday, one day in MK.
-Probably a Friday-Sun or Sat-Mon since DS3 would go with us and he can't miss a bunch of school.
-It can't be on the weekend of the 16th (nephew is getting married.)
-MNSSHP is usually going on at this point, but I don't want to do a park AND the party, so it would have to be one or other other (and it looks like the party might not even work with our schedule requirements based on the days it was offered last year. Plus, party tix and park tix are pretty much the same price.
-It's hurricane season?
-Flights are stupid-expensive and we would probably drive the 4.5 hours to Detroit and fly Spirit (for the same price as 1.5 tickets from our local airport)

What else am I not considering? Is this a horrible idea because of of the time of year?

We usually got to Orlando in September (usually around the last weekend of the month) and it is actually a great time of year to go although it is still hotter than the surface of the sun. There is usually a mid-afternoon downpour to work around (we've gotten pretty good timing our afternoon break around them) and then the humidity tends to taper off afterward. The crowds are usually pretty low because people aren't willing to take their kids out of school right after the new year starts.

September is a good time to go crowd-wise. It's still hot as hell, and it is hurricane season.

I do enjoy the parties, but I wouldn't bring a young kid because they start/end so late.

It IS hot. Miserably hot. But it's also usually not too crowded, because school just started (as @sandam1 said). We have gone a few times over Labor Day weekend and it was pretty nice, crowd-wise.

Sure, there is a risk of a hurricane, but historically by the time a storm gets inland to Orlando, it's mostly rain. I've been there in early October for a hurricane and it was actually kind of cool. They shut the parks for half a day, but they bring entertainment and food to the hotels (in fact, there was a blow up last year over the influx of vloggers who BOOKED Disney resorts during a hurricane to take advantage of this). It also cooled the weather down for a few days, which was nice. And no locals were in the parks so it was even emptier. The real risk is if your flight were to get canceled and you were delayed getting in or getting home, but airlines are super flexible when there's a storm like that involved.

I haven't been to MNSSHP in a few years, but if they are limiting crowds it is totally reasonable to treat the party as an MK park day. I also am not a parade person, but love the MNSSHP parade.

Firstly: airfare is ridiculous in September (and also January for MW, but that's a different discussion.). All of the major carriers want ~$400/person round trip. Spirit is the most affordable, but requires us to drive all the way down to Detroit or Chicago, fly into Tampa, and rent a car. Yes. Doing all of that (including parking fees) still saves us $500 over flying into MCO. Ugh.

Small victories this week. Still having false-starts with workouts in general (and we go on spring break next week, so there's another off-schedule week to throw things off) BUT I did do a lifting workout AND a run last week. And I found a not-black/gray/white running vest on the DSG website (they randomly do an extra 50% off clearance) so I grabbed a red nike vest for $37 last week, and then some feetures socks for DH to get free shipping. It appears I may have lost 1.5 pounds, but we will see if that was mostly water or what next week. I mostly stuck to my containers (I'm eating in the 1500-1700cal bracket) and snooped around to some different TDEE calculators to make sure that this was, in fact, an appropriate amount of food. And it is.

And 10000% not related to running or training, my chickens FINALLY are laying eggs again. And I cannot wait to hatch out some more fluffy dinosaurs in the next couple of months. They went on strike back in November, and I've been threatening them for the past few weeks.

I went to MNSSHP mid-September last year. I did two parties— the first it rained the whole time, the second was good. I had a blast… but Halloween at Disney is also my absolute favorite so ymmv.

I absolutely LOVE snow and winter, but even I am getting a little tired of it. We are getting storm after storm and just hit our all time highest snow pack in northern Utah! It's great for our drought and the lake, but I'm ready for maybe some 60 degree days. I'm starting to worry it'll snow until June and then go right to 90s and summer and we'll just float away with the flood waters.
