I really have a hard time with Michigan winters too. I feel like it's such an epic struggle to find motivation and accomplish things. If only we could be bears and hibernate all winter!!
I have a great cold weather pullover with watch windows on both sleeves from Brooks. It’s warm enough that I can just wear it over a long sleeve running shirt when it’s 0° outside. We for a run. OUTSIDE. It was 40 and sunny today, so I layered up and went for around a 5k easy run. Didn't turn on my autolap, because I wanted to just run however fast or slow felt right, and I knew that if my watch buzzed at me I would be tempted to try to adjust my pace. I definitely felt like I haven't really run since the marathon (only 1 30min run in mid-February) but it also wasn't terrible or bad. I still managed to average my easy pace (without obsessing over it), and kept my HR in zones 2 and 3 for the majority of the run. Now to try to stay consistent. DH is done reffing until summer basketball, it's staying light a lot later in the evening, the time change is next weekend, so I'm optimistic that I'll continue to be able to run outside (unless we get more snow, because then there's no shoulder for me to run on, our road is one of the last to be plowed, etc.)
Now for my complaint. DS1 needed new baseball cleats, and UA had an additional sale going on "outlet" items so while I ordered his cleats I also ordered a "cold gear" running shirt for me that had thumbholes, fold over glove/sleeves, AND a watch window. Yay! No more pulling my sleeves up to see my watch! Except. The watch window is only on the left arm. I am left-handed, so I wear my watch on my right wrist. So this feature is useless to me. Cue the tiny violin music.
There is 0% chance I will run when it's below freezing out, let alone 0! Oh my gracious! I am a delicate flower, and 40.....maaaaaaybe 35 if it's sunny is my absolute limit. I just don't understand why they wouldn't put that split seam on both arms, ya know?I have a great cold weather pullover with watch windows on both sleeves from Brooks. I have done the meal prepping in the past. And I've tried to do it off and on during the winter. I will definitely check out that blogger for some new ideas. Lunch is the worst for me because suddenly it's 1pm and maybe I haven't eaten yet today, or there's nothing [I really want] in the fridge leftover from previous dinners (because the teenagers portion it out for THEIR lunches when the clean up the table and it might be gone already.) My go-to for prepping is to make sheet pan veggies, brown rice (or garbanzo beans), and some sort of chicken. And I cannot handle counting calories and weighing stuff right now, so color-coded containers it is. ALSO, YES to this being so hard with all of the kids. Figuring out how to feed, fill up, and fuel 2 teenagers that are in sports while also not completely blowing up my food goals is no fun at all. With multiple kids, this can be trickier, but have you considered meal prepping? Not even prepping everything necessarily but focusing on the meals where you find you are the most tired, in a rush, just wish you didn’t have to cook. Having food prepared that I can just reheat and not have to think about makes things 100% easier for me. I lost 50 lbs and have maintained it for 4 years? Maybe longer. Don’t really remember at this point. I regularly recommend a food blogger, peanut butter and fitness, to people looking to start. She has basic how-to’s for people who haven’t prepped before, loads of recipes with calorie counts that I have found to be accurate, and most are portioned to 4-6 servings. As she has grown as a cook and blogger her recipes have only gotten better. I still use them regularly.
Congratulations! On a good note, DH and I celebrated our 18th anniversary over the weekend. I pointed out to him that it was really weird that next year we will have been a couple for half of my life next year; it's simply not possible that I'm old enough for that statement to be true!
At least next month is only a week awayView attachment 748880
Yesterday the snow was almost completely gone. And today we already have 7in (since 9am), and they’re forecasting 10+. Have i mentioned lately how much I hate winter? Maybe I’ll get to run outside next month![]()
