Every DVC unit is booked?!?!?!

We were there for Sunday before MLK through the Thursday after this year and I didn't think the crowds were that bad. Sure there were lines but not terrible. I would definitely wait list. But don't wait for them to call you if you really want a room. Give them a call a few days after you wait list and just see what they say. For some reason they always seem to come in. We had the same problem for this December in August. We got what we wanted eventually. GOOD LUCK! Its a nice time of year to be there if you have good weather. Because usually the weather else where is not near as warm.

I called this week for a studio at OKW - April 21-22 - a Monday and Tuesday - sorry all booked - I couldn't believe it. Is something going on that I don't know about? A holiday I missed on my calendar??

We leave on April 27th and when I did a day by day at the 7 month window, I did get my second choice, but I remember many threads that folks were posting the week before me (which would be your dates), resorts were booked and folks were waitlisting at the 7 month window. I was scared when I started calling and luckily I got my 12 nights at the BWV--though not standard like I would've hoped for, but happy to get preferred. I too thought it strange that the week before was so busy, but as others have posted, seems it's a spring vacation week for many (not my area though -- Wash.DC metro area). My grandson has the week after Easter off.

But don't give up hope. I just cancelled a VAK value studio for April 18-22 (4 nights). I booked it a couple days after the 7 month window opened - there were no studios at BCV or BWV for 20/21 when I tried. I didn't call right at the 7 month window because I didn't realize my daughter had the 18th off ahead of time. But I was able to get a value studio at VAK. I also made a reservation for May 3-7 right at 7 months - got BCV studio. I held both reservations until yesterday when I finally made up my mind to do our mother-daughter trip in May when in should be less crowded. (I was waiting until SW airfare opened and everyone had to drop their prices) It means my daughter is missing 3 days of school instead of 2, but her high school is on the modified block system, so she has half her classes on Monday/Wednesday and half on Tuesday/Thursday and all on Friday. Mon/Wed are her light days - will only miss math and drawing an extra day.

Anyway - back to the original topic. People cancel for many reasons. Try the waitlist.

Only once have I not been able to get something......a few times maybe not my first choice, but, still something. That said, I've made ressies at 11 months out and two months out. However, we're at VWL 1/4 thru 1/11 and I called two weeks ago (keep in mind, I called after the 60 day window) just to see if I could add a studio (we have a 1 bdrm and we were considering asking DH's cousin and her husband to join us) and I was told "Nothing at all available at VWL" for any of our dates. Marathon weekend begins 1/11 and people do start coming in on 1/10 so I sort of expected at least the 10th would be unavailable. However, I also called about Vero for mid May and was told there is still plenty of availablity and that's a bit over six months out.....calling back on Monday to make those ressies since we've got our dates firmed up now.

I agree... call back the week before the 31 day mark.. there are often cancelations.

Now I was able to book Dec 14th-17th (Fri-Mon) just 15 days out... Only the 15th and 16th were availble on points, so I am paying cash for the first night. We got an OKW 1 bedroom.

Thanks for the advice - - - maybe I will reserve what I can - wait list the rest - - and start the phone marathon. We should have reasonable luck as we will be there for five weeks prior to that - very rare that they make you leave or not complete your wait list from what I am hearing from others!

In my experience, all of DVC books up really fast for:

Any of the federal holiday weekends : MLK, Presidents Day, Memorial Day (I have never had a problem with July 4th at 7 months, and Labor Day appears to be an exception)

Anytime in October or early November (use the dates of the Food & Wine Festival as a guide). Columbus Day is in October and is included in this category. BCV and BWV go especially quickly.

Thanksgiving weekend

The first two weeks of December

The week between Christmas and New Years

I have the government holidays off but I have quit traveling to WDW on them. I will have 3 trips on weekends in October next year and I am skipping Columbus Day. WDW wasn't that bad this year on that weekend, but the airports were terrible.

The only ones I am scheduled for in '08 will be 4th of July (at the Swan) and Labor Day (can't book yet)

New England school vacation. New Englanders love OKW. I meet lots of them when I stay there.
