I just read that Everest will have speedsn and forces comparable to RnR Coaster.

Anyone heard any other details, as far as top speed, manuevers, etc?

It's no secret that it will be a roller coaster and that it will go backwards somewhere during the ride.

Well, it doesn't use the launch mechanism that RnR uses, and I don't think it will come close to the speed of RnR, and there are no inversions.......so it seems Everest will be relatively tame compared to RnR. The ride will go backwards at some point. I'm thinking it might be comparable to Indy at DL Paris, which is a similar sized coaster that also goes backward (boy, I hope Everest doesn't give me a neck ache for the rest of the day like Indy did). A little bigger and faster than BTMRR, but nothing as extreme as RnR. Thats my speculation.

From the Disney Insider -

"Expedition Everest is definitely a thrill ride. It does have good speeds and forces, comparable to Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster," Imagineer Joe Rohde explains.

Well, Disney may have hyped Mission:Space (which I think is a great ride) a little too much and I don't think that worked out all that great. I hope they don't hype Everest too much, not for the wrong reasons. I expect Everest to be a great ride, maybe even a classic, but not because of it's thrill factor. Heck, I'm expecting Everest to be better than RnR, but you don't need 0 to 70 in 2.8 seconds to achieve that.

I'll see what stats I can dig up on Everest, but I'll only believe it has RnR speeds and forces if I see that for myself.

From what we were told at WDW last week, it'll go 80 mph both forward and backwards. RnR only goes a bit over 60 and that's at launch.

As cool as that would be, I can't imagine that. Who told you that? Not doubting that you were told that either - Just curious if it was a CM or not.

The carts themselves simply don't seem like they would go that fast. 80mph is REALLY fast. Nothing wrong with Disney upping the thrill factor a bit. However, this has been the most hyped Disney attraction that I ever recall. You would think they would at least make it bareable for slightly younger types as well. 80mph is pretty tough. I can handle RnR Coaster, but 20mph faster seems a bit much for me.

50 mph - Not too bad. Just a bit slower than RnRCoaster.

80 foot drop - That's pretty big.

that is absolutely not possible. i am a gigantic roller coaster fan and 80 mph is very intense. many intense rides are 80 mph at places like six flags. i have been on the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world (kingda ka) and that was 120 mph and that was INTENSE! look at the link i posted above it will say how many mph it is

Did you even enjoy Kingda Ka? I'm fascinated by it, but would never go on it. I can't imagine being able to breathe on that thing.

I haven't ridden Kingda Ka but I have ridden Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point (also in 120mph range). It is by far the best launch I've ever been on. It is a great ride. That being said, I think there are other rides that are better. It is really a 1 or 2 trick pony.

The guy who told us that was at MGM at rope drop. He was one of the CMs in the blue shirts and had an ear piece (management I'm assuming?). While waiting for rope drop, he was talking to the crowd about who was going on RnR, ToT, etc. That's when he started talking about Everest and mentioned the 80 mph speeds. I'm not saying he's right, just repeating what he said.

I also rode the dragster and found it to be an incredable sensation. Although it is quite a gut renching ride, it would not make it on a list of the top 10 roller coasters in my opinon. The Dragster has no story, or real legacy behind it. I think that is what Disney coasters are good for. They may not be the biggest or fastest, but they are the most fun and involve the rider the most....

I agree about Dragster, I enjoy the "experience" of the Disney rides more. I also agree that OSU will be next, the next to beat michigan!

At 50 mph Everest will be 12% slower than RnR. The drop of 80 feet is decent, but hardly something that will match RnR's reported 5 g's. So speeds and forces comparable to RnR might be an exaggeration.

That being said, this will be a good size coaster. Of course Splash Mountain hits 40 mph and has a drop over 50 feet and Disney has a couple other coasters that are bigger than Everest in it's other parks.

All in all you are looking at a very decent coaster, but not one that is going to challenge RnR for top thrills at WDW. Not that that is a bad thing. It seems Disney is doing a wonderful job with the theming on this coaster and I hope they are creating a classic.

I think it would be a mistake for Disney to build this coaster up as a huge thrill ride the likes of RnR. Disney's rides are best when theming and thrills are used together. If they build this up as a big thrill ride and it doesn't deliver, there will be those who will be disappointed.

Very well said, I think. Some of the best rides are not necessarily the fastest, so I think a good combination of both is probably the best strategy. Anyone know what the height requirement is going to be for this ride?

I agree too.

Disney caters to far too many younger kids to exclude them from rides. A coaster that goes any faster than 50mph would be too much for them. Even RnR Coaster seriously slows down after the initial launch.

Good point but I think Disney will get it right!
