DisneyKidds said:Well, it doesn't use the launch mechanism that RnR uses, and I don't think it will come close to the speed of RnR, and there are no inversions.......so it seems Everest will be relatively tame compared to RnR. The ride will go backwards at some point. I'm thinking it might be comparable to Indy at DL Paris, which is a similar sized coaster that also goes backward (boy, I hope Everest doesn't give me a neck ache for the rest of the day like Indy did). A little bigger and faster than BTMRR, but nothing as extreme as RnR. Thats my speculation.
Star Wars Guy said:From what we were told at WDW last week, it'll go 80 mph both forward and backwards. RnR only goes a bit over 60 and that's at launch.

metsfan11 said:that is absolutely not possible. i am a gigantic roller coaster fan and 80 mph is very intense. many intense rides are 80 mph at places like six flags. i have been on the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world (kingda ka) and that was 120 mph and that was INTENSE! look at the link i posted above it will say how many mph it is
johde said:I haven't ridden Kingda Ka but I have ridden Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point (also in 120mph range). It is by far the best launch I've ever been on. It is a great ride. That being said, I think there are other rides that are better. It is really a 1 or 2 trick pony.
I agree about Dragster, I enjoy the "experience" of the Disney rides more. I also agree that OSU will be next, the next to beat michigan!Disneyjosh229 said:I also rode the dragster and found it to be an incredable sensation. Although it is quite a gut renching ride, it would not make it on a list of the top 10 roller coasters in my opinon. The Dragster has no story, or real legacy behind it. I think that is what Disney coasters are good for. They may not be the biggest or fastest, but they are the most fun and involve the rider the most....
DisneyKidds said:At 50 mph Everest will be 12% slower than RnR. The drop of 80 feet is decent, but hardly something that will match RnR's reported 5 g's. So speeds and forces comparable to RnR might be an exaggeration.
That being said, this will be a good size coaster. Of course Splash Mountain hits 40 mph and has a drop over 50 feet and Disney has a couple other coasters that are bigger than Everest in it's other parks.
All in all you are looking at a very decent coaster, but not one that is going to challenge RnR for top thrills at WDW. Not that that is a bad thing. It seems Disney is doing a wonderful job with the theming on this coaster and I hope they are creating a classic.
I think it would be a mistake for Disney to build this coaster up as a huge thrill ride the likes of RnR. Disney's rides are best when theming and thrills are used together. If they build this up as a big thrill ride and it doesn't deliver, there will be those who will be disappointed.
Good point but I think Disney will get it right!DisneyKidds said:I think it would be a mistake for Disney to build this coaster up as a huge thrill ride the likes of RnR.
