Everest Ride Contest: VERY upset with VMK right now

I am truly sorry to hear about your team being denied. :(

keep talking to staff and getting same response :( :

I wish we could fix everybodies but rules are rules. and BASE CAMP was in Bold letters. -- that made me angry but i kept my anger down.

Wow. VMK was pretty harsh. If this site was "geared" towards adult, I could see them being so strict. However, VMK was created for the tween crowd to have a safe, enjoyabale virtual game experience. :( All they had to do was send your leader a message to change his room titile. No harm done at all. :confused3

Exactly! And since it's against VMK policy to ask someone their age I am not 100% sure how old our Team Leader is, but apparently he's under 13 because of a few different factors.

I am still very upset and disappointed with Disney/VMK today.

P.S. The actual name of our Team Leader's Base Camp room DOES have the word "Camp" in it; this problem is entirely just an error on his part when he typed/entered the names of all the rooms, he accidently left the word "Camp" off of his base camp room title. :o

Oh, I'm so sorry for you all. I know that my son's team leader is around 8 yeard old. I was talking to her in vmk before she turned in the entry about making sure she spelled everything right. Didn't think to remind her to read the rules again. Gee, this sure is too complicated for these young kids. Sure hope it all works out for everybody!

Oh this is truly sad. They should give the entrants an opportunity to fix mistakes and reregister. I can only imagine how sad that poor kid is...my stomach is sick over it right now. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will reexamine the entry and allow the correction.

WOW! I'm not part of this team at all, but this whole thread just makes me want to cry! :( I know if one of my sons were this poor boy and made such an easy mistake, they would be absolutely DEVASTATED!! It just breaks my heart! :(

I really really hope it all works out for all of you, most importantly for this poor team leader.

Keep us informed!

I'm so sorry Cape! This really stinks. I hope that VMK actually listens and corrects the great wrong they have made. Yavn, if you are reading these boards, would you help them out?!

I know as a parent this breaks my heart for the kid who was the team leader...

That is almost too much burden- I mentioned on another thread that although the rules were written out- there were a lot of them and if you think that technically all decisions and plans should have taken place in VMK- I'm surprised many many more didn't get disqualified.

IT is sad and I really feel bad for this kid- maybe we can do our own "competition" after this one is over for some of the kids affected by this.

I agree. The whole competition is a bad idea. Do they really expect team players to have absolutely no contact with each other outside VMK? That's nearly impossible. So that alone goes against VMK values. Then they make a young child feel as though he has let down five other players? Very bad idea, VMK. If there were to be a competition, it should just be solo. That way you are responsible for yourself only.

I know a couple of people who are on a team with five of their mules. :rotfl2: How fair is that?

I hope they let your team into the competiton.

Actually, I think the worst thing about this competition is the fact that they want you to keep your ride open for the duration of the event. That is over 20 hours that you or a teammate has to be in your base camp room. I'm glad there are 16 of us on my team.

Heck, I am above the target age of VMK players and I messed mine up. They rejected me because they didn't understand that all my rooms would have the same prefix, then something, because I can't plan out 30 rooms in my head and figure out how it will all come together. I figured I was safer doing that then having to change/drop/add a room to the track.

I will help! I didn't join in the main competition, but I will definitly help in any way possible if you guys decide to do your own competition!!

my first idea is we go on strike from quests :)

my other idea : Im personally holding my own ride contest with prizes ( for your team only ) if you go you will be scored out of 100 on your ride. every ten points will get you a better prize please PM me if you and your team would like to join *Ill need to know how many are on your team and by the way does not matter to me whether it base room or camp :)

From, the empathycrab ;)

This really concerns me. I think that this team should have been allowed to compete as long as the following criteria were met:
6 to 20 team members (names listed)
1 base camp leading to no more than 30 rooms (total number of rooms listed)

This should have been sufficient for an online team competition.

I don't mean to "hijack" this thread, but a similar situation has occurred to my friend's team. They were disqualified because they wanted to let someone they did not know onto their team. This person became confused, as she is very young, and quit the team. When the team leader emailed "the Black Hole" he received the same canned response letter that some others had posted here. How is it possible to keep a team together when you are dealing with people you have no outside VMK contact with? This particular young girl who quit the team has not been on VMK since. There is NO OTHER WAY to contact her! So this has now become the team's fault?

I asked VMK_Red and Host_Phinny both about this situation. They responded by saying the team should be okay as long as it wasn't the team leader who quit the team. This is the complete opposite of what the rejection letter stated. So, what are people supposed to do? What about those of us who are merely team members? The ones who are relying on our team leaders to submit entries correctly and on time? How do we know if they did everything right? We could all very easily be left out of this competition. Sad part is, none of us will ever know, if our team leaders don't tell us.

Wake up, VMK!!!! These are, for the most part, CHILDREN!!! Let them all compete in the event. Why make things so complicated that even us adults are confused by the rules?

End of rant. I hope....
Please. If you are reading this and are a member if VMK staff, help us understand what's wrong with a little fair play? Give everyone an equal chance at whatever little trinkets you are awarding as the prizes. They are, after all, just pixels on my computer screen.
Sorry for the length. I do tend to run off at the finger, don't I? LOL

its also really weird, and i am assuming this because i think they needed our room names, that i can't add new rooms. Because thinking about ti have have TONS of ideas i could put into rooms but i only signed for 2 rooms.

What I don't understand is VMK is geared toward children. On VMK we are not supposed to mention real world stuff, or about contacting each other outside VMK, nor can we say numbers (for time). Now how are children that have no way of communicating with there team outside of VMK and limited vocubulary supposed to set up who is at base camp when?

I guess they want children to use real life friends, but kids like my son know noone in real life that plays VMK. Without DIS he would not have found a team. His team is unable to participate now, so he is going to help me.

That has been my whole big question about this event. If we have had so much problem coordinating this event. How in the world our these kids that can not say numbersand limited language able to make sure someone is there tp man there camp all weekend. And since they have all the names of base camps. Why could they not send a letter saying they will be around to judge your room say in a 4 hours window instead of all weekend. That would make it so much easier.
