here for a specific person? I mean, I'm sure they know that others will read what they write, even though the post states it's to a specific person. I wonder why they just don't PM the person instead. If I wanted to stay something to one particular person I don't think I would post it for everyone else to read, I would just send that person a PM.

Sometimes they post to let the person know they can't send them a pm (some people like to keep a full pm box;) ).:) But I know what you're saying about the rest. Sometimes I find myself doing it. If it's something more personal, I send a pm or an email though.:)

yeah, I can understand someone would have to post here to tell someone else to clean out their PM box ;) but when they don't do that, I just often wonder why they post for everyone else to read. Just my curiousity I guess. *shrugs shoulders*

By the way, browneyes....I "borrowed" your "walking Mickey" picture for my signature in another message board, hope you don't mind. I really wanted to use it HERE but figured I probly better not since you already had it...so I found a different one to use here....:D

And that's precisely why I did it, Nancy! I know that sometimes weeks go by without me remembering to look at my PM's.

BTW, it looks like we are going to be in WDW at the same time!

Oh, and the other reason to do it publicly is when you're saying something nice to someone....to give others the chance to add to it! It always makes people feel nice to get compliments!

Gee, makes me wonder why you didn't send the above as a PM to browneyes??? ;)

I know I only get e-mail notification sometimes that I have a PM...........

And unfortunately, it's not me that's going to WDW :( It's DS for his graduation present.
He won't wear a lime green anything  ;)

And -- sometimes people, like myself, do it because someone may have their PM and email options turned off. :) Yesterday I addressed a thread to Buckalew. I could have addressed the title to my thread "I have some questions for all the hairdressers on the board or people who have had experience with this particular hair problem." but I saw Buckalew posting at that time and I was trying to catch her before she signed off. Besides ----- that title wouldn't have fit. ;) :p I also know that if others have opinions about a subject they will jump right in to help out, as they did and which I very much appreciate. I know I addressed the title of my thread to Buckalew, but at the bottom of my post I thanked everyone who was going to reply . I don't think any of the threads on the CB with names in them are meant to be private, not even the "clean out your PM box" or "check your PM box" threads. :D

And I agree with that too! :) :)

That's ok, I borrowed it from somewhere too.;)

A reminder guys...From our posting guidelines

4. NO PERSONAL MESSAGES: These boards are not for exchanging personal messages with friends. For that, we suggest you use email. These boards require an email address be entered prior to posting. If you have a personal comment for that person, please direct it to them via email. If the use of the boards for personal messages continues, those messages will be deleted. Remember, if the message is not intended for EVERYONE, it does not belong on the boards!

Thank you, Patrick for being the "hall monitor"! :teeth: I was about to post the same thing!

I am guilty for doing this sometimes, mostly because because I like to OUT the person for a wonderful thing they've done! Otherwise, I'm a big PM and Em fan....

Okay now, what constitues a personal message? :o One that has a person's name in the title, one that has a person's name in a post, all of the above, non of the above, or it's open to interpretation??

Seriously, if it's on the CB doesn't that, by virtue of being posted there, make it a non-personal message? That's how I always saw things. :)

Please don't see this as me being witchy or something, I'm just really curious now. :) Seems I break the rules with my clipart (three times now I've been busted by Will! ) and now I may be breaking the rules again. :o :teeth:

If the post is a conversation that only includes two people, and is not really for others then that is personal.

Ex.

I make a post to Beauty..

Hi, just wanted to say I love your clipart.

OR

Hey, what are you doing up this late?

These kind of comments are more conversations between two posters and is singled out to just them. Does that make sense? The CB is more linient then most the other boards with this, but there are limits ;)

It comes in spurts...I rememeber a couple years ago it was happening alot...posts directed to one person from another. Our goal here is to be all inclusive, to have threads everyone can participate in. Most days we are running 3...4 and sometimes 5 or higher pages a day of posts. Personal messages can add to that total and be bouncing other posts back at a rapid pace. Sure we all find our nitches, but as the guideline states " Remember, if the message is not intended for EVERYONE, it does not belong on the boards"

BTW Maggie your clipart looks very nice and is within guidelines:teeth:

Oh I get it now. As long as what I post is not intended to exclude others or is not intended to only be answered by one person, then I'm okay. I'm not breaking any rules this time then, whew!

LOL! :p Thank you for the clarification Patrick and Glo. :) :)

And thank you Patrick for the comment about my clipart, I thought it was very Spring-like. And yes, it is within guidelines because Will busted me , then he fixed it for me. :o LOL! :p

See?? I tried to get Maggie banned for causing trouble, but would you guys listen?? Noooooooooooooo. . . .

;)

:teeth:

Cool! A thread with my name!!:bounce: I'll have to go find it. :) I'm glad Maggie's kind of thread is OK to do because that is my couple of minutes of fame!:p

I want everyone to see it and respond, even though it may say Sheppy! on the title. It is fun. At least I can count on Shannon jumping in.
:p :teeth:

Well, gosh, I feel bad that I "opened up a can of worms" as far as posting personal messages go...I sorry.....

Hope I didn't get anyone into any real trouble....
I had just been curious, and I appreciate all the answers....some I hadn't thought of before, so thanks for all the responses.

FOJMO: I should have.....duh.....

I just never even thought about it!!!

So, not everybody gets little "pop ups" like I do, when a new personal message appears in their PM box??
