This year I really don't want to wait by the railing for over an hour to get a good spot to watch Illuminations. Have you ever waited until a few minutes before it started and still had a good view? I should say that we are planning to go for the week of Thanksgiving and will probably plan to see Illuminations on Wednesday.

We have found last minute spots back by Japan and Morocco. We usually stay at Boardwalk, so it's a quick exit out the International Gateway.

Another vote for Morrocco for last minute viewing, tho the walls are kind of high there, so if you have a little one you will need to hold them up.

i never sit and wait for illuminations, for some reason sitting around for an hour to see fireworks...just isnt fun...
I have seen Illuminations about 20 times (maybe more) and always, always find a nice spot just a couple minutes before.

have fun! I'll be there the same time as you I love Thanksgiving at WDW! :)

Laura :)

6 days til WDW!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEEE!!!!! :) :) :)

Another vote for not waiting!

Like the previous poster we also usually stay at one of the Boardwalk resorts. DH found a great spot to view Illiminations at the very last minute. The bridge just before entering France or if thats full then just past the bridge there is a great place on the left. It's a circle the jets out and it has steps so there are many levels to view. It's just past the bridge where the boats pull up for the Illuminations Cruise. After dinner we would just walk through the International Gateway no more than 10 minutes before and always find a spot;) Hopes this helps.

The steps of Japan, or along the rail in front of Morrocco

Thanks for all your advice. We're staying at the Beach Club villas so your suggestions are great. This year I shall not wait!!!!

This year, we bought annual passes so we went a bunch of times to watch IllilumiNations ... the bridge by the International Gateway (in between UK and France) is a great spot ... I've also watched from Norway and Japan. I don't like to camp out for a spot hours before the show starts. I'm sure you can get the best view this way ... but it seems like a waste of time to me. :p

We never wait for Illuminations. we just kind of keep an eye out for how crowded the spots are getting, and do stuff around U.S.,Germany, etc.,and work our way towards the International Gateway at a pace commensurate with crowd activity, at about 10 minutes(or less) before show time. When we spot a pretty good place, we'll stop to see the opening, then we'll walk on and watch, while stuff is in the air...stop at the next "globe" part at eye level, walk again while the fireworks are up in the air, and so on.It may not sound like it, but we do it in a pretty leisurely way. If it's a really good part, or we walk up on a really good spot, we'll hang out for a while.Sometimes we do snipe about whether we should stop somewhere or not!!But it's not like panicy oh no! it's going to ruin our trip. You really can see alot of this Illuminations without being right at the rail...and catch the finale right near the exit! Not for everybody, but it works for us.If you're not sure, try this on a. second or subsequent night.

I never wait either. I find it more relaxing and fun to stand back and enjoy it away from the crush of people jostling for position.
