Ever use a walking boot in the Parks?

I got hubby to suggest a quick trip to Disneyland later this month for their Food & Wine Fest. There is an obstacle. I'm having an MRI this week to see if my doc will put me in a boot or PT. I must have torn something last Oct at WDW. (At least that's when I first noticed something wrong with my right foot - I thought it was the start of a blister.) After limping for months, I am finally seeking treatment.

So - anyone have experience with walking around the Parks in an ortho boot? We won't be doing our usual "gotta do everything" trip. We'll stay at the Grand Californian and go mostly to California Adventure Park, where F&W is being held. We'll be back in Dec, maybe before. I'm wondering if I'm nuts to even considering this.

Maybe you shouldn't go because of your foot issue, you could possibly make things painful/worse for yourself?

I agree with wishesuponastar's suggestion that you should consider not going. It is definitely something you should ask your doctor. You don't want to do more damage to your foot.

We went to DC with my son in a walking boot. The doctor fully approved. Although the doctor did not require it, we also used a knee scooter to minimize him walking on the injured foot.

I have.... Not WDW, but other parks on one trip.
For me, I had some pretty bad foot issues. In injury that involved a small fracture, and the development of a neuroma.
For me, the boot was a godsend, as long as my foot was stabilized, it was not painful, and protected my foot from any further issues.

For you, I am not sure.
I am assuming that you have had X-rays?
I would def. go first and find out exactly what the problem is with your foot.
But, take heart.... Like me, the dreaded boot might make this trip possible.
I hope so!!!!

I went to Cedar Point in a boot. (I broke a metatarsal so it wasn't a huge issue.) It wasn't horrible, but it definitely was limiting.

Since you're going to DL vs. WDW, I think it could be done if you get approval from your doctor.

The boot can become heavy over time and consequently screw up your knee. Also, there can be a height difference with the shoe you wear on the other foot which can screw up your hips and back.

Having spent the last three months in a BK walker boot, I can tell you the pain in my knee (the booted leg) would prohibit me from enjoying WDW. The weight of the boot stresses my knee as I swing my leg forward during normal walking.

Good luck with your healing.

Keep your options open to rent a scooter if things get bad. I suggest getting a hand towel and wrapping it around your leg under the boot. It will help reduce chafing and absorb sweat-- those things get hot. I just bought a few cheap ones when i was in a boot and they made a huge difference.

Rest often, as others have said it can mess up the rest of your body. Try to get a good shoe for the other foot with as little height difference as possible. A knee scooter can help but that will still put a lot of strain on your good leg.

If you go, definitely rent a scooter from an off-site company. They'll deliver it right to the hotel, and pick it up afterward. The scooters are fun to drive and you'll be able to do more without further damaging your foot. Disneyland does have wheelchairs for rent but they aren't much fun for your DH to push. DH pushed his mom all over Disneyland and ended up damaging his own knee in the process. DLR and DCA aren't as flat as you'd think.

Thanks for the responses. We've decided to wait and go later. We'll try to book a room for April 2017 for F&W. I was just so darned excited that DH suggested a spur-of-the-moment trip! He never does that. But work is kinda slow right now & he's concerned that he'll be busy in a few months.

I'll know more after I have the MRI.

I've been in a walking boot since Christmas (still am!). I've done Universal and Disney in my boot but always opted for a wheelchair. The boot is HEAVY and exhausting to wear on a daily basis at home.

I see you moved your trip - probably for the best!
