Did you survive?
thinking of where to cut our Disney days and think this may be the answer

Yes! This is the answer. I have not been to a Disney Park since 1988 and really don't have a desire to go. Universal is a great experience. Give it a whirl.

IOA and US are both excellent parks. Our first visit was in 2000, and IMO the parks have improved each year. We also always go to WDW, but MGM is the one park we don't always visit.

Believe it or not, I've skipped Disney for Universal and Sea World! :) I've been to MGM. They have 2 great rides (TOT and RNRC) and one or two good shows (Millionaire, maybe Indiana Jones), but the rest of the park was kind of blah to me. If I had my way, I'd never leave the corner of TOT and RNRC! :)

Yes, we skipped MGM the last four times we traveled to Florida so we could go to Universal Orlando. Of course, we also skipped the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom ;) . We left it up to our kids which parks to go to and the answer has been the same every time: USF and IOA, while staying at PBH. It seems that, once they get to double digits in age, the WDW thing kind of wears off and UO becomes the themepark capital of the world.
DW and I are both glad for the change. We love PBH, the restaurants at UO, and the nice easy pace we can explore the parks at with our FOTL.
Besides, if I had taken my DW on "It's a Small World" one more time, I think she would have shot me :scared:.

Totally agree, my boys 18,16,4 LOVE us/ioa. They don't want to go anywhere else!!!!!!! You will love it toooooooo

Totally with dsdave! The first time we stayed at HRH and had that FOTL thing going (not to mention DD hitting the double digits), there really was no contest!

Having said that we're cruising for the 4th time on DCL in August (still need a little Disney fix!) but afterwards we're at RPR for 4 nights and another 5 days of FOTL!

Hey, Barry, you forgot Playhouse Disney!!! I mean, who can resist Bear in the Big Blue House? :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Really, though, having a preschooler means that I have to sit through those kiddy shows and I'll take Bear any day over Barney. My 4yo told me that he wants to see the Barney show 5 times and I told me "NO WAY". My DH will bring him once and maybe I'll bring him once (I brought him last month), but that's it. Ugh!

T&B

Playhouse Disney has the biggest stroller parking lot I've ever seen! I try to walk past it on my way to TOT. TOT to me is like the GBs to FFE. :)

I would like to skip MGM during our next trip since we'll be going to Universal and it has a lot more movie-type fun than MGM. But our son keeps asking to go to MGM too, something about those Muppets and Star Tours. Anyway, I'm still mulling it over but I think that MGM is expendable.

You know, the last time we went to WDW ( a few yrs ago) my family liked MGM best! Gotta agree with Barry about TOT and RNRC. Also, my boys don't get into the character stuff. That's why they have been whining about going to US ever since we left WDW.

You can see on our countdown, we leave soon. We are so very excited to try US. And just to let you know, there have been no requests to go to WDW this trip at all.

I love Universal, but I also love RNRC, TOT, The Muppets, Star Tours. 50's Prime Time Cafe...

If you don't really care about MGM, skip it. As much as I love some of the rides, it is my least favorite of the parks.

Tower of Terror is probably my favorite ride anywhere and most certainly at WDW. Thankfully my 4yo likes it too and we went on it 5 times when we were there last month. That's pretty good for a kid who cried on Spiderman last year because he thought he was really falling and on Jimmy Neutron because he thought he was really underwater. My 60yo sister wanted to pay the "bellhop" to let her stay and ride (without the preshow) for 1/2 hour. That would be my idea of a good time!

T&B

The last time we went we did Epcot and AK - then Universal and Sea World. WE didn't do MK or MGM because there was nothing 'new' from our previous trip. The same was true of Universal but we LOVE BTTF and Earthquake - we used to love Hanna Barbera and Kong but these have now gone, sadly :(

Looking forward to doing the 'new' rides this year - MIB, The Mummy, Shrek (:bounce:  ) and Jimmy Neutron. Also going to do IOA this time - we skipped it last time as it seemed to be mostly thrill rides and that isn't really our thing - however we're gonna give it a go this time!!!! ::yes::

Wow! Now that's saying something, Barry!! ;) ;) :p

Haven't been to Disney in quite a long time. I really enjoy the change of pace at Universal and IOA. If you've never been, definitely don't cut too much of your Disney trp back. Disney is your "safety" because you know you'll have a great time. I think you'll enjoy US/IOA, but you may miss Disney too much to enjoy the "other parks" at first...

I haven't been to MGM in 7 years...so I can't say anything about that...

T&B - Keriann (gbluvr2886) forced me to see the Barney Show. The kids watching it loved it. Sad to say...but my mom asks me to take her...no way!! I feel your pain! :p :p :p

ritzbuddy - so this is your fist trip to US/IOA? Fun stuff!! :)

Yes! Yes! And we are soooo excited! It is a big trip for us. Me & DH, DS17 & DS12, who have been clamoring to go for a long time.

No WDW this time and no regrets.

Haven't been for a few years, but all I remember at MGM is the Indiana Jones. What else is there now?
