Ever really put your foot in it?

SO called his mother last night to see if she had received an envelope in the mail from us yet. She then proceeds to tell him that yesterday (Tuesday) was her birthday. OOPS!!!!! SO gave some really lame excuse about being in NYC on a business trip on Monday and Tuesday (that was the truth) and that he had no chance to call (a bit of a fib)... then she asks why I didn't remember to call? Ummmmmmmmm......... well all day and night Monday I was craming for these two tests which I took early Tuesday morning. I went to bed and didn't wake up again till 5 in the evening (that was the truth). She makes a comment on how I wouldn't forget my mom's b-day. So then we were out at the store and picked up a random B-day card. I signed it in the car for both of us and put it in the envelope and we drove by our apartment mail drop to put it in. Well the card was a little wide for the slot and while I was trying to force it in I tore the envelope. OOPS!!! Well I guess we can blame it on the mail.

This is sad. I usually have a wonderful memory for things like this. SO can't remember anything. I was just so busy with school, and SO's business trip. Oh well.... I am sure she will get over it. She thinks we never call either. Both she and my mom live in FL. This past Sept. I was there visiting. She asked if I talked to my mom, and I said I do at least once a week. She then told me that since SO (her son) can not remember to call her, that I should pick up the phone, dial it, and give it to him!!!

I love her, but it is a 2 way street. She could call here. My mom calls me about as often as I call her. SO's mom rarely calls, but complains we don't call her!

I do it atleast a couple of times a day...Evryone is just used to it!!!

It neverceases to amaze me how mothers will not expect their own male offspring to call, but will expect the female who is dating/living with/married to their male offspring to take on that responsibility.

I was lucky. My DH called his mother or stopped by their house regularly, so it wasn't an issue. I called her as well. But I also don't think she ever had the expectation of me that if DH didn't call then I should call for him.
