Although we leave for WDW in a couple of months, DH and I found ourselves in desperate need of a road trip yesterday.

We packed a cooler and headed out. The original idea was to head down to Clarksville (about 90minutes away) and come back.

Then I decided that I wanted to see the Nashville skyline.

Then I thought, "DD has never been to Alabama."

So, yes, folks. That's right.

We drove from Kentucky to Alabama. Stopped at the welcome center. Took pictures with the rocket. Then drove back. All in all it took about 9 hours.

I love spontaneous road trips. :goodvibes

Sounds fun. We have done that but much more local --- not that far yet but that would be awesome!

Did plenty of those while in school, when I had the gas money. Sometimes before a big test I would drive until the wee hours of the morning. Made for a great stress reliever, esp at night.

YES!

Just did a super-mini one today in an attempt to scratch that travel itch. We were out of Larry's Beans (local-roasted coffee...YUM). There's a bakery right down the street that sells it, but we headed off to the place that's about an hour away to get it there instead. In our defense, they have a bigger variety there, it's a ma-and-pa shop, and we love them (always has a bunch of seniors sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch, shooting the breeze). But really, it was because I'm absolutely dying to go somewhere!

(Bonus was that I got to ride home with the smell of coffee beans in the car!)

When I was in college we used to leave on a Friday night, drive all night to a bagel joint in Montreal, get some bagels and turn around and go back. We usually got back to Troy, NY sometime Sunday night.

Now that's a road trip. :thumbsup2

You had gas money in college? Oh wait a minute, I had that too, but I called it the change from the beer store.

Yeah, had to work 2 jobs at a time to do it, but every now and then I had some.

LOL I read road trip and thought about what we consider a road trip which is 30 to 60 days or more. What you did we would call an "outing":lmao:

Just a month or so ago we spent 2 weeks doing the Williamsburg, Va. thing and after we got back we said "what happened" that we are back so soon.

Our last "road trip" was our 2009 one to Maine that covered around 40 days and we're looking forward to our 40 to 60 day one south to the Keys next year. The longest has been the almost 70 day one out west to Ca. and back making the grand loop of the U.S.

It was! You should go for it. :)

I'll bet that was a good stress reliever.

Sounds like fun! And you HAVE to love the smell of coffee. :goodvibes

Sounds more like a vacation than a road trip. ;)

Besides, that doesn't sound quite as adventurous as a 3 yr old in the back seat of a Saturn for 9 hours.

Especially one who decides that they HAVE to potty...while you're going through Nashville, at night, in the rain. :rolleyes1

Have fun with your vacation, though.

So let him jump out and let it rip beside the car. Not like the ground will get any wetter, and the rain will wash away the evidence. :lmao:

LOL Two problems with that...

1. Said 3 year old is a girl.

2. No one said that she had to pee. We do have one of those kiddy potties. When we finally found a stopping point (thankfully she held it), she stunk up the car better than some adults. :rotfl:

We did the road trip thing this last weekend. Ended up at Disney :-)

We NEEDED a road trip really bad. We don't get vacation until Christmas time this year and can't wait for our 2 weeks at the Fort. Anyway two weeks ago we jumped in the RV on Saturday morning and took it out for a much needed work out. The nice long day trip including a stop at a Truck Wash which was about 50 miles away. Luckily we headed north. Had we headed south and gotten near I-95, the RV might have taken over and forced us toward Florida. We sure thought about it a few times. We could've called in sick on Monday and gotten back to work by Tuesday if we drove down and back Kamakaze style!

I kept telling DH that if we just drove about 12 more hours (at the point we turned around), we could make it to Disney. He said no. What a party pooper. :cutie:

I'm glad you had fun! I was hoping that our road trip would suffice until October. Unfortunately, it just made us want another one. :cool1:

One of the problems with living in north Texas is that 3-4 hours in any direction and your still pretty much no place. Not like Central Ohio (where I'm from) where you you can get to Lake Erie, Amish Country, Hocking Hills, the Ohio River all in less than 4 hours each way.

Lately we've been taking day/weekend trips to the State/City/Corps on Engineers parks to check out the campgrounds.

We've been on several week-long road trips in last few years... Last year was the camper's first trip to The Fort. :cool1: The year before we had both been to 49 of the 50 states and needed to get North Dakota checked off our "lists". :yay: We figured as long as this was primarily a driving trip we'd cross the border and get Manitoba and Saskatchawan checked off, too. We both had TB (tired butt) when we got back from that trip. The year before that we took US Rt 287 north west out of Fort Worth and headed to Yellowstone Park. Rt 287 goes through Jackson, Wyoming and right in the Yellowstone Park south gate. After spending three days there, we headed East to Mt Rushmore, the Badlands, Crazy Horse Monument, and back home.

It will be so great when we retire and so we can stretch out the trips into multiple weeks. Our first stop will be at least two weeks at The Fort. :woohoo:

:thumbsup2 You go YodaGirl! KFK is liking your style! (Sounded more like the benefits of retirement to me.)
