Occasionally I get an illegal error about backweb. I have no idea what it is and where it came from. Any ideas? Should I get rid of it? HELPPPPP!

Have you subscribed to some type of service that updates information to you all the time such as news, stock prices, etc? Providers of information such as that might use Backweb in their distribution of that information. Sounds like it hiccups from time to time.

Snuggles,

Your computer wouldn't happen to be an HP (Hewlett Packard) would it?
If so, remove that software as it NEVER worked for me. It is a total waste of resources.

As a matter of fact it is an HP. I thought of getting rid of it but wasnt sure what it was. I'll get rid of it today. Thanks yall! :D

I feel your pain Snuggles :(

That software is a total waste of resources. It is supposed to connect to an HP support server to download any 'Notices' and 'Updates' that HP feels you need to have. Well, for the time frame when it was still installed on mine, it only kept downloading the 'Welcome to HP' message (which isn't small to say the least). I have NO respect for that company. Their driver updates work 10% of the time and the other 90%, it breaks something else.

Do you still have the receipt? :)

Seriously, I used a peice of software called "Partition Magic'.
In simple terms, this made my computer into two. The first one is the family 'computer' with some of the HP software/drivers on it. The second 'computer' is only mine. I removed EVERYTHING and installed Windows 98 SE with only the options I needed. I didn't even install their Multimedia Keyboard driver as this is the BIGGEST resource hog I have ever seen. So instead of using the nice volume control on the keyboard, I just use the sound icon in the System Tray. No biggie for me but I got back about 30% of my resources doing that. YMMV.
