MS described a system where they don't call you to verify your new booking instructions when rooms matching your criteria become available? Instead, they just implement the changes as outlined in your original request. Sounds like the best way to make sure you don't miss that important phone call. Has anyone used this system? Did it work as expected?

I'm curious, too about how waitlisting works. Is there a thread soemwhere that has the 101 on waitlisting?

If you waitlist, do you do it day by day or can you waitlist for the full vacation dates to be becoem available all at once? And do they automactically cancel the other ressie if you are trying to switch out to a different resort? I'm assuming this is how people end up with a night in the middle of their trip at another resort?

For example, I ahve BCV for 5 nighst, but will wnat to swicth to BWV on the smae dates. If it is not available and I want to waitlist how will they go about it?

i have not heard of the auto waitlist, although there was a post not to long ago about the op was on a wait list and never heard from ms and 3 months later or so the op had called ms to check on the waitlist and make other arrangements, to their surprise, their waitlist came through a couple of months earlier.

i was on a waitlist day by day and for the entire ressies, the day by day ms calls each time they get a match, the entire stay ms calls only when they get the entire match. there is good and bad about each waitlist. we waitlist in june for the first week of aug. for the entire waitlist, came through the middle of july, about two weeks before we arrived, at the same time in july we waitlisted for another ressies for the same time, had add on family coming at last minute, this time we waited day by day, came through a week later but they had to move twice . on our second to last night we were suppose to move to the wlv and then the next night to bcv, the night before wlv we were at bwv and asked front desk that night if there was anything at the bcv so we didnt have to move again, again. we lucked out, and there was a room at the bcv, so we only had to move there for the rest of our stay,
and the only reason that they did it was because it was the same amount of points, if it was less points, those points would have gone into holding.

your question about moving to bwv from bcv, if your waitlist comes through before the 30 days to arrival, ms will call, and the point differents will go back into your account, if its less then 30 days those extra points will go into a holding account.
hope that helps::MinnieMo

They will automatically allocate your request and notify you by the usual post.
I received a nice one recently when I requested a Bw view and only new about it at the front desk.(our confirmations arrive two weeks after we come back, by post,LONG STORY)

We've always used the autowaitlist system. They don't call you, they just automatically give you what you've waitlisted for. The advantage is that you don't have to worry about missing a phone call-my understanding is that if what you want comes available and you haven't used autowaitlist, they call you. But if you don't call back within 24 hours, they don't confirm for you. I've heard of people missing the resort they waitlisted for because they missed the call. I didn't want to take that chance. The only disadvantage is that you wait a little longer (for the new confirmation to come in the mail) to learn you've gotten your waitlist request. Mail is always slower than telephone. Hey, I just thought of an idea-too bad they couldn't have an automatic Email to let you know.

If you decide to auto waitlist I would be sure to clarify that if the waitlist comes through that the original reservation is cancelled and those points used or you may end up with two reservations and points borrowed from another year. I had this happen with a waitlist for NYE. They just borrowed the points from 2004 and sent me the confirmation. Fortunately I was able to cancel the other reservation and those points could then be banked into the 2004 year.

There are two basic ways to use the waitlist and two divisions of th those basic ways.

You can use "regular" waitlist- where you will be called when your request is available and you can then confirm that you will accept it. You can do this for either your full request or on a day-by-day basis.

The other method is the "auto" waitlist where you will get confrimation by mail when your request has come thru.

The problem with "regular" is that if you miss the call, it may go to someone else. The problem with waiting for the entire request at once is that you won't get the request until all days become available at one time- they will not save individual days for you.

With "auto-confirm" you will get the request as soon as it's available- again, day-by-day is a more certain way to get your full reservation. The problem with day-by-day is that it's possible that a day (or two) might not come thru in the middle of the stay.

I've always used auto-confirm/day-by-day and have never been disappointed.

Good Luck!

Doc, do they send you the confirmation only after all days have been filled or each time one day is?
Also, do they cancel the other night that you have ? Say I waitlist day by day for BWV, but have BCV already. One night coems through at BWV, do they cancel the BCV and use thsoe points. (i'm asking this because I won't ahev extra poinst in my account this use year to cover it.)

Personally, the day by day scares me a little. I woudl ahte to have to move mid trip with 2 small kids and all our stuff! And then maybe to even ahve to move back a second time! OMG!

Has anyoen had any luck waitlisting for the full trip? Can thsi be doen also with auto or just with the regular?

Thansk so much!

Shan,

Yes they do. I had OKW reserved for New Year's eve and New Year's Day. I was on a wait list for the BCV. When New Year's day came through, they cancelled the reservation at OKW for that night. The next week, New Year's eve came through. The same thing happened then.
