Ever have any plants that you have no luck with?

I just called bluestone perennials for the 2nd replacement of Ajuga Silver Beauty...these guys are supposed to be able to be walked on & pretty durable, so why aren't mine growing..

I don't find "Silver Beauty" as vigorous as all the others. There are so many better ones out there, I'd say to try another variety. I've found that although many ajugas handle some sun, 'Silver Beauty' tends to burn out in full sun, and needs more water.

Astilbe is another one that cannot tolerate dryness. They can tolerate sun, but only if kept consistently moist.

I have several of one that is small and has beautiful lavender colored leaves, I think it is Burgandy Glow. It grows really slowly and after several years still doesn't look like much, but what is there is really pretty.

I have another that is really big and dark purple...name is Giant something
Mine came out of a big pot that was preplanted. It has been in the ground for several years, but this spring it has really taken off.

I keep buying lilacs. This is not a lilac area, but they will do sort of okay if you get just the right one in just the right place.

And purple cone flowers...they are native here, but I have tried them several times...I'm going to try one more time with those.

I also tried sliver lace vine several times. The third time was the charm. I think it is succeeding now because the first two were mail order plants, but this last time I got a nice gallon pot at a local nursery. Either the variety is better suited or I just finally got a healthy one.

Catlin's Giant? It's really dramatic, isn't it? I have to try that one next. It's a little big for a groundcover, but might be nice as an edging plant.
I don't have Burgundy Glow, but I have every black variety known to man. The weirdest one is Black Scallop. From a distance it looks like some alien fungus growing under my trees. How attractive!

I ALWAYS have trouble with bleeding hearts! I love them and they grow everywhere in our neighbourhood EXCEPT in my garden!
