Ok...so I am apparently having a "stupid " day....

I am trying to write a memo to describe I reviewed a co-worker's report.

OK....So, I reviewed his report for general content (1st round of review to make sure it actually makes sense and is accurate) I did NOT proof for grammar/spelling.

I can NOT for the life of me think of the best way to describe it succinctly...and it is driving me crazy. Typically, if I want to say something I can think of it!

What you did amounts to proofreading - for content, structure, clarity, etc. Proofreading is not the same as editing, which includes spelling and grammar. In my world, saying that I have proofed a document does not mean that I have edited it.

My book/magazine editor daughter says proofreading is to check for spelling and punctuation and that editing is reading for sentence structure, grammar, clarity, continuity of thought, proper word usage and the like.
