Ever had a scary ride on one of the buses?

A few years ago when we went to Disney, we stayed in Fort Wilderness. We took the buses to Downtown Disney. The bus driver nearly gave me a heart attack. He was going really fast and take corners pretty fast. Since then I have not stepped foot on a Disney bus again. However, I would like to this next trip (in 18 days) so that we dont have to worry about driving as much. But I'm afraid I will get freaked out again!

We have never had a scary driver on any of the WDW buses in five trips to the World since 1999.

Some were sweet and entertaining like the one who kept up a constant banter and contest while driving a packed bus back to the WL after Illuminations.

A few were grumpy and didn't smile much. ;) Obviously they were not enjoying the magic like we were!

We LOVE not having to drive for a week and think about how to get to where!

Why not give it a try again this trip? :goodvibes

I can't speculate on how you will react, however, we've used and enjoyed the WDW bus transportation for what seems like forever without an incident. :thumbsup2

Good Luck!

I think I've driven with this guy once.

I've been on a buses where the bus was cut off by a driver of a passenger car. Once leaving MGM after Fantasmic and once on the rode to MGM.

During our last trip a few weeks back, we were headed to MK at around 10:00pm and saw a nasty accident between a bus and a car that looked to have run a red light.

We were leaving POP to go somewhere on a bus and the arm that goes up to let you out was stuck closed. They were directing people to drive out the entrance. Our bus misnegotiated the turn and went up on the curb/bushes right outside the little guard building. My daughter was terrified the bus was going to turn over :goodvibes . It was pretty funny - he ended up inching around with several people trying to guide him (he was within inches of the roof overhang). It took forever and by the time we made it through they had fixed the arm!

Our magic express bus went to the Wide World of Sports instead of the All Star Sports but then figured out the problem and we were on our way. I have never felt that any of our Disney drivers were unsafe though. Now if you get on a 2am bus from pleasure island the passengers may be another story...

I remember being on at least one Disney bus where we thought we were going to get whiplash from the driver's braking! It's hard to hold on for dear life with a three year old, diaper bag, stroller, etc. We were so glad to reach our resort in one piece! :) I'm sure that just like every business, you're going to have some people who don't perform at their best, be it at customer service or their driving skills. At least we've had a seat when we've encountered these crazy bus drivers - I would hate to be standing.... :sad2:

The worst I've ever experienced was one driver who hit several curbs near bus stops (this was on the big BW/YC/BC/S/D run) and one of the gate things as we were leaving a resort. My guess was that she was rather new and having a hard time negotiating the tight turns, etc... in those parking lots. It wasn't a situation where I really feared for our safety...but I was a little concerned for the folks at the bus stops!

You had the pleasure of having one of these drivers as well? :rotfl2:

There's been more than a few times while on wdw buses I feared my life, I guess I don't mind because if anything happened it'd be doombuggy3's world. :lmao: No flames, I'm totally kidding. I normally just laugh the bad driving off and it becomes a family joke throughout the year.

We had a Ricky Race Bus Driver one time...I think he got paid by how many people he transported each day!!! We were rocking and rolling all the way to MK...it was a tad scary!!! My dd couldn't wait to get off that bus. Who knew those buses could take those exit ramps that fast!!!

LOL>I never feared for our lives but yes we did have a man who slammed on the brakes at every stop he made.LOL>It was not funny at the time but when you reflect back on it it does make me chuckle. But we did have a blast at Disney so guess the whiplash was worth it. :rotfl2:

Are ya sure none of you got my grandma! Who could be worse than her. But once we had a driver that went way to sloww

Hi,
We have never had a bad experiance on a Disney bus and we have traveled to Disney many times, see my signature, but then again I ride the "T" up here in Boston so I do not beleive there is anything that could happen on a Disney bus that I have not seen before. Go enjoy and let Disney do the driving from your resort to the parks anyway. If you are trying to go resort to resort drive or take a cab.

Back in February when I was traveling to Animal kingdom we were going right along when all of a sudden this alarm started beeping like crazy.... so the bus driver says to us all please do not panic but I need to pull over for a minute remain calm and in your seats.... so he pulls over reall slow like an proceeds to shut the bus down....he ten starts the bus back up and we drive slowly the last few hundred yards in to the parking lot...
As I was walking into the park I hear this couple talking and the wifes says to her husband.. Geez did you see that?? the husband says huh? and she says the board above the drivers head .. the one that says the destination said THE BUS HAD NO BRAKES....:scared1:
Good thing I was sitting behind the screen and did'nt see that beacuse I would have had an everloving heart attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sad2:

Thankfully, she's mistaken about the brake thing.

Whenever the driver applies the brake, a red light comes on to let the driver know they are applying the brake. (It's a bus thing) On the Gillig, there's only one other light she could be referring to -- the Brake Interlock Disabled light. That comes on when restarting the bus. It just means that the brake interlock is disabled. The interlock comes on anytime the bus is kneeled, or the back door is open. It prevents the bus from moving when it shouldn't.

The alarm was probably the Check Engine or the Stop Engine alarm. It's usually a false alarm from one of the engine sensors. The Nova's are infamous for them, but by your description, this was a Gillig... not as common, but certainly possible. When you shut down the bus and restart, it resets the sensor. (Similar to rebooting a computer) If the alarm came back on, then the problem would have been real.

My experience wasn't so much scary as it was irritating.
When I was at the world in February I was leaving MK on a bus back to POFQ. We were behind one other bus trying to leave (about 45 mins after Wishes on a EMH night) when we were stopped at the guard house/security arm.
We sat and sat and sat...waited, waited, waited...finally the bus driver got out of the bus and joined a few other bus drivers near the arm. Eventually some DisSecurity arrived and all the men pushed the security arm up. Once it was up, the bus drivers went back to the buses and we all left. We sat on the bus waiting for the arm to go up for about 30 minutes. This was, of course, after waiting for a POFQ bus for about 25 minutes. I didn't expect to get right on a bus but I also didn't expect to wait for the arm forever!
