People were a bit aggravated with me @ the store tonight...

Kinda silly... but tonight I bought paper towel (Bounty) on sale... they had it marked @ $3.99 for an 8 pack. It rang up at $9.99. Thats $12 back in my pocket...

So I went to customer service where I assume one would go for an error like this. No one was behind me. I think the store was short staffed or something. So she goes back to look... I swear she was slower then a snail. People started backing up... I could have beat her in speed hands down... and I walk slower then most 90 year olds due to arthritis. :p
First they buzzed the product in. She said "no it's $9.99". I said I realize it rang up as that. My receipt says the same thing. So she goes back to look (I'd gone back when I first came in to make sure we'd seen it right).
I had explained when I went back this time all the paper towel was now gone but the tag was indeed still there and it was on the 8 pack. She told me I must be mistaken as she went back and there was no tag. I wasn't gonna back down! :rotfl2: and insisted there was a tag. So this other gal who was her supervisor and clearly irritated at me says she would go back with me.
So we go back and sure enough there is the tag! The supervisor tried to tell me I must have grabbed the wrong paper towel... Now I had been patient up to this point. I told her if I did I'd be really ticked b/c there were 6 or more packs right there earlier....

In the long run I did indeed grab the right paper towel... according to the sticky thing. The gal removed the sales tag. I got my $12+ back. But it irritated me... $12 isn't that much but it's not the first time I've caught mistakes at this chain of stores.

Ever caught a mistake on your receipt?

Yeah, luckily they weren't that slow in fixing it.

The worst store by us for mistakes is Meijer!!! They are horrible. If I'm not watching while items are being rung up, I almost always end up at the Customer Service desk. What a waste of time -- I try not to shop there except for some the the really good specials. Isn't worth my time & effort.

I have caught mistakes several times but luckily I haven't had the bad experience you did with getting it corrected. That's awful!!

I have had a few times at Target where I have been double charged or they have forgotten to place an item in the bag, but they were always fast to fix the mistake.

Once at Wal-mart I bought some stuff and I realized I didn't have the bag with me whe I got home (I never grabbed it from the bag holder thingy) and I called to see if it was still there and they replaced everything for me, which was really nice.

Yes, and I have complained for a lot less than $12. All I have to say is, Publix, thank your for your commitment to customer service! I would have been really upset if the store gave me as much of a hassle as they did you!

I always check my receipts :magnify: and I would say they are wrong at least 50% of the time. In my area, when they make a mistake they not only give you your money back but you get the product for free  . One time I had a very large grocery order and I didn't even realize until I got outside but the store charged me $100.00 for a loaf of bread instead of $1.00 :faint: . It pays to check. It's your money and you have every right to go back and dispute the discrepancy. pirate:

During our visit 2 years ago at the Wal Mart on 192-4 of 13 things we bought scanned wrong. Of course we got the difference as I threatened to return everything if it was not corrected.

As much as I shop Meijer here, I agree that things do not ring up properly and virtually every other trip includes a stop at the service desk. :paw: :paw: :paw: :paw:

I always watch when they ring up the items, and we always check our receipt if it is long.

Where I work I take care of the sales and tags and if it rings wrong they get it for free. I know it is easy to overlook an expired tag and we never give anyone a hassle.

The most common mistake I find is people see something on sale and grab the product next to it, especially if it is the store brand.

What customers don't like is when we have to verify the price check, but we have to so if it is wrong we can correct it.

Every time I go to CVS I am over charged on sale items...and this is at a few different CVS's

Just this weekend I went to Sears and bought 2 shirts on sale...10.99 & 17.99, with an extra 10% off the girl was telling me it was 32.??. I asked how much they rang up as and she said I had to sign first then she could tell me. I refused to sign because it was clearly wrong.
She took the items to another register and told me the prices. They rang up as 10.99 & 17.99 and she looked at me like I was still wrong. I said thats 11 and 18...that makes 29, it cant be over 30 (nevermind the extra 10% off). Then she tells me its tax. TAX on shirts? She just sat there dumbfounded until luckily someone came and helped her void it out and ring it up again.

Luckily I was paying attention.

I went back and checked before going to the customer service line. I didn't want them checking on a product if I was wrong. Just ticks me off even today. Whatever happen to the customer is always right (well until they can dispute it otherwise)?

The supervisor told me it must be a mistake. It wasn't on sale last week or this week. And yet the tag clearly said 8pk of bounty. Makes me wonder sometimes. I know they are busy but shesh!

I check prices too. :) I've had similiar situations and I'll double-check before escalating...but I've actually removed their sign from the shelf and handed it to the customer service rep. It's hard to dispute when it's in black and white.

Penny's is notorious for sale items not ringing up correctly. Their receipt is so complicated, you never know what the actual price you are paying for.

This September I bought my dd a Columbia jacket it was on sale for $140 with an extra 20% off. I bought other things and my bill came to $250. I got out to the car and started looking at my receipt and saw that they did not take off the 20% for her jacket. I called cause I was out in the parking lot and she said bring it in. She gave me a $5.00 gift card for the mistake.

This weekend, JC Penney had the get $10 off a $50 or more or $15 off a $75 or more.

I bought 2 quilts. They where marked at $39.00 with 20% off. She rang up the order and it came to $63, plus $3.00 in tax. I told her that was wrong and she said, no, I gave you $7.50 off each quilt. I told her again that I was suppose to get 20% off the price of the quilts first which would of been around $54, then I would use the $10 coupon. (She told me the computer didn't take the 20% off the clearance price, so she had to do it manually). Was that my fault? She ended up giving me $15 instead of the $10 for my troubles. Plus a long line formed behind me too.

Be really careful with JCPenny, especially when you see a sign that says take another % off the price of the item you are buying. 2 times within a month of each other-I wonder how many people pay attention.

I must be reading this wrong, but if you bought 2 quilts for $39.00 each the total would be $78.00. 20% off of $78.00 is $15.60. $78.00 - $15.60 is $62.40. How do you get $54.00?

I told her I tried to remove just the sales tag and she freaked on me and told me never EVER remove tags off the shelves... sale or otherwise. They won't know a product goes there. :confused3 I told her I couldn't anyways...

She was a wee bit cranky with me :(

I had that problem with Meijers too. It was with kids liquid vitamins. I had one kid who took with iron and one without iron, so the mistake was for twice as much. And yes, they did the same thing. Scanned the item and said "that's what it rings up." I said, of course it rings up that price, but your tag says it's on sale. As I was waiting for the REALLY long verification trip, I said "you know, Cubs gives you the item free when this happens." The lady said "Well, we aren't Cubs." That was the last time I bought at Meijers for my weekly shopping, so they lost over $100 a week of business.

That was a LONG time ago (my kids are 12 and 13 now, and I don't think Cubs is even in business anymore), but it really made me remember to WATCH that register!

I worked at Target as a cashier in the mid '90's, so I saw it happen all the time! We were pretty good at both honoring the mistake and getting it fixed so it wouldn't happen again. In fact if the differance was less than $10 then the cashiers could overide the register on their own authority so that the lines wouldn't get backed up. Anything over $10 we did have to call the department and do a price check.

The few times it became a big hassel was when a basic model of something (toy, electronic device, whatever) was on sale and people confused the basic model with upgraded/better models that were more expensive and NOT on sale. This happend with some kind of doll once. The one on sale in the flyer was the basic doll, but there was a differant one that came with an additional outfit that was NOT on sale. Spent all week explaining and argueing with people about it!

Unfortunatly, there are a lot of dishonest people out there, if the stores just took our word for it, they'd get ripped off even more than they already do. But once they go back and see the lable on the shelf (or the ad in the flyer or whatever) then they need to honor it!

You guys should live in NY State! In Erie County we have a super refund law...if anything scans incorrectly, you get the sale price, plus up to 10 times the difference in price (up to $10.00.) I just got my daughter a pair of sneakers at Target that rang up wrong, (old sale tag not taken down) we got her sneakers for $3.00 after the super refund. My store has 3 people that work in pricing to make sure we don't make mistakes, yes, we still miss a few, in a large store it is really hard to catch every single small item, but we have a pretty good track record. PLUS, we have excellent customer service so if you think a price is wrong we will go out of our way to find out what happened and correct the mistake.

At Krogers when that happens, they give it to you for free, well, they give you one for free... I had 10 jars of tomato sauce ring up wrong once, but I would have never expected them to give me all 10 for free, LOL. Also, there is always a manager hanging around up front at the one I shop at, and they hire the best special kids to bag the groceries. I just love the store!

Sorry, They were actually $39.99 a piece clearance price with an extra 20% off. She rang it up for $79.98, and then she took $15 dollars off my price (which was the promo for Saturday nite shopping from 4-11:00 p.m.) and it came towhich came to $63.98 plus tax. The computer did not take 20% off the $79.98. I knew I was suppose to pay around $54 plus tax if the register would of rung it up correctly. I kept telling the clerk that 20% was not taken off, the sign was right behind me were I was checking out.
