Hello, I'm real new to the boards and posting. I must say it is a bit overwhelming with all of this stuff!
I'm a married 45 year old man with a passion for Disney!
Sometimes I feel alone in my passion for all things Disney. My friends, coworkers and Even my wife sometimes thinks I'm strange listening to podcast and looking at things on the web about Disney. They just don't have a passion for it like I do! They don't ever say anything mean I just get some off the cuff comments and stuff.
Do any of you have that experience? I'm hoping that by trying to get involved with the Boards might be helpful in making some friends that also share my passion.
How did you get started on the boards? There is so much to choose from. Just booked my next trip to WDW for this November!!! Can't wait!
Thanks so much for any response.
Sincerely,
Scott S

Hi Scott, Welcome to the boards! You are not alone in feeling alone. I to am surrounded by people who dont quite "get" my love of Disney. I actually was picked on the most by my sister intil I took her on a trip with me last year and now she is madly in love with Disney as well. ( Not as much as me though. I am a bit of a fanatic.)

I grew up a hour outside of WDW and some of the most wonderful memories of my life were formed there at a very early age. Even now Disney fills me with such wonderful emotions and gives me inspiration to keep moving foward. ( I know that sounds corny but its true) I spend hours here on the Disboards reading posts and reading peoples trip reports. My trips are always planned out to the fullest months in advance. I drive over a 1000 miles to visit at least 2 times a year. And since I joined the Disboards a couple years ago I cant get up in the morning with my tea and not check in.

Just ignore all those people that snicker or roll their eyes. We all have our thing. My husband loves his old shows, my mom loves camping in Montauk, my friend spends hours working on costumes. I could spend hours watching youtube videos of WDW or just Dis'ing .

You will meet some great people on here. Sometimes Dis'ers even wear cut outs of lime green mickey heads to spot each other in the park. ( You can find some in the paint chip section of Home Depot) Everyone here is a lot of fun and its really awesome to not have to explain yourself to anyone here. Everyone here "gets it". Welcome home!

Oh boy, you are SO not alone! I LOVE anything about Disney! So much so that it is driving me NUTS that no one else in my family wants to book reservations yet for our trip next Oct.! I have been nagging my brother and his wife to join us, because I want their DD to experience what my two kids do! They just don't "get it."

I only just recently found another Disney lover at work, but no one in my family gets it, nor do my friends or my fiance'. I've accepted this and just enjoy my Disney self. Welcome to the boards!

Welcome to the Dis!

You aren't alone and you picked the right place to share your passion! :thumbsup2

Everyone here gets it and we've all had those questions and looks etc etc from family, co-workers and friends that just don't get it.

The most common answer I get from people is...

"you're going to Disney.... Again????"

I proudly say "YES!!!!"

You are certainly not alone... as a matter of fact you are in GREAT company here!!

Enjoy your time on the boards!

I, too am new to the boards. Luckily, I know quite a few people who are also CRAZY Disney freaks...my 10 year old daughter to name one.....

We first started going to Disney World in 2006. Next month will be our fourth trip. Each time we say we are taking this year off, we somehow end up back in Disney.

Anyone else having a hard time getting into Le Cellier? I really wanted to try it this time, but there are no open ressies.

Welcome Scott, you've definitely come to the right place. This place will feed your obsession. And yes I feel just like you. Being in Australia its difficult to find someone that has been to Disneyland let alone WDW. Nobody i know 'gets it'. DH has learnt to live with it and I'm working really hard on my kids so that they become just as obsessed as I am. :)

Oh yeah .. we just spontaneously planned this next trip (was supposed to go in February for our daughter's 5th birthday, but I lost my job and we had the money, so we moved it to October) I've been talking about it non-stop since we put the deposit down. I went out and bought the guide (even though we've been there three times before) and was being made fun of (nicely!) by family because they saw I was highlighting things.

My husband's cousin and her husband and son are also going at the time time (coincidence!) and they think I'm crazy for making reservations for dinners now. HA! The joke will be on them when we're going to CRT and Chef Mickey's and they're stuck eating at their hotel. (I warned them!)

If I had the guts to move to Florida (I'm a New Englander, going back generations :) ) I'd love to work at Disney World. I'm a former art student and have been trying to get to the Animation tour for years, something always interferes. This time I determined!

I am alone in my passion as well, and my friends at work think I am crazy when I start talking to a customer about Disney. They just dont get it!! It would be awesome to have someone to go with when we go, that loves it as much as we do but so far no luck!!

You might think you want that, but be careful what you wish for! Ha ha .. My DH and I went with his brother and bro's wife, their two kids, and his cousin and her fiance, and while it started out as all fun and excitement, it got old quickly! We went again on our honeymoon (alone, obviously!) and it was the best trip we ever had.

When we just booked this trip, we found out that that same cousin and her now DH, with their son, who is our daughter's age (they're 4 months apart and very close) happened to book the SAME exact week as we did without even knowing that the other was considering going. The good thing is that we agreed to do our own thing and coordinate when we all WANTED to. No obligations, so that's good. We'll see how it works out THIS time!

But yeah, even just having someone to talk to is nice. I'm glad that they're going for that part - I can yap to her for hours about it and she doens't roll her eyes after 4 minutes.

You are NOT alone ... it's frustrating to try to explain your love of Disney ... but to paraphrase St. Thomas Aquinas,

"for those who 'get it,' no explanation is necessary, for those who don't 'get it," no explanation is possible.

we get it. welcome!!:wizard::wizard:

:goodvibes

The magic of Disney has always captured me... I only went to the park one day, I was very young and don't remember it, so it's not so much the resorts but the movies, music, etc...

I go around singing songs from Disney movies, I can recite many of them.

I've always love Disney specials and watching the parades on TV and stuff during the holidays.

Going there this week with my family is like a dream come true and I'm looking forward to some truly magical experiences this year.

This is exactly the way the conversation goes for me! I love these boards...Disney addiction can be the norm!

You now know you are not alone in your passion for Disney, and many of us feel as you do. It's nice to have somewhere to chat with other people who love it like we do!
