ever do a short trip without kids?

I'm going the 22nd til the 30th without my kids. This will be the first time alone.

DH and I just got back yesterday from an adults only weekend. It was great! It's a different experience. Go for it! You'll be glad you did. :)

Funny you should post this right now. I have been working on DH to go without the kids. We never got a honeymoon and have never been on a trip just the two of us. Our 17th anniversary will be this January. I think I just about have DH convinced, but he is so worried about the kids getting mad at us. I remind him we would be taking the kids the next year. I remind him the kids go to camps, friends, and DD has been on 2 trips with Gparents without us before. I did ask DD what she would think if her dad and I took a trip without them and she said if it was a day trip it would be ok, but anything longer would upset her. She is 14 though so everything that doesn't go her way is upsetting.lol
I am trying to make plans without the kids knowing yet, we have to make sure we have the money first before we book. I will have to show DH this thread and let him know others get to go on trips without the kid once in a while.

I just took a short trip without the kids this past weekend and had a GREAT TIME. Does that make me a bad person?

DW and I went for the first time alone this past MAY. Just a quick 4 day trip and we LOVED IT!

Let me say that we love it with the kids (last trip was 3 girls 10,16,21). It was nice to eat when and where we wanted. We were able to get up early and stay out late. BTW, we were able to justify the cost of seeing Cirque, which we loved. We told the kids that we were going, and since we are going as a family again in December there was very little grumbling. My advice...do it, the kids'll survive.

Do it! I went with just dh in Nov 2002 and it was the most relaxing & romantic vacation I've had since my honeymoon :rotfl2: . The kids, who were 12, 9, & 4 at the time, were great about it, probably because they'd just been there the previous June. Not one was upset- they knew this was a mom & dad trip and they simply weren't invited.

This year I'm taking the kids in September- but going with just my sister in October. It's an entirely different vacation without kids.

DH and I went last August to Disneyland without our kids. My kids have had a total of like 11 trips to DL/WDW so I didn't feel too guilty. But they tried to make me feel that way, especially my daughter who told me she was not "impressed" with my decision to go to DL without her! I finally pacified them with I would bring them back each 13 souveneirs (pulled that number out of my head as I was leaving two whimpering kids to go to the airport). These included cheapie little things like key chains, pencils, postcards and some more expensive things like a stuffed animal or something. That helped. I did tear up when we were watching the fireworks because I knew my kids would have loved to be there but I got right over it. We also told them we would not ride a couple of family favorites which was fine since we were there to experience the park in a whole different way. It was a great time and gave us some time as a couple and made our next family trip that much more special.
