Ever Buy From TV Shopping Channels/Commercials?

No, not by calling the channel or number in the commercial. There have been a couple of items that looked interesting, and I did additional research before buying them elsewhere. When we lived in Pinellas County, one of the local malls had a HUGE As Seen On TV store, where you could check out a lot of the items in person. Boy, there were a lot of things that were pure junk!

Never have. Not at all inclined to watch people try to separate me from my money for stuff I don't need.

My sister makes up for my lack. She shops QVC so often they say, "Hello, [first name]." Every order taker recognizes her voice, she told me.

YIKES! I can't imagine. I'd much rather spend money at Disney on stuff I don't really need.

That's funny she thinks that! Her name pops up on their screen because of caller ID. Her phone number is in their system. I have bought some items online, from their website. They have some good deals on some skin care products I use. My Nana used to watch it on occasion when I was a kid, so it's nostalgic for me.

My wife's stepfather was a huge QVC etc shopper. He passed away in 1995 and when her mom passed away in 1999 and we were cleaning out the house we found 4 tiny TVs, a weather radio and a CB radio he had purchased off QVC.

I bought a sweater once from HSN or QVC, don't remember which.

I have bought a couple "As Seen on TV" items when they land in a store like Big Lots where there is a section for them. The shipping is too exorbitant to buy from the commercials, plus you need to buy 2 of something, and they really aren't worth the price in the commercials. Eventually they end up on Amazon, or a cheaper knockoff becomes available, so I can get something there if I'm still interested.

Yep, I usually buy my Tracfone yearly package from either QVC or HSN, I can usually get a year and a new phone for less than $100.

Yes, me too. That's the only thing I get from there now. They usually have great Tracfone bundles on their newest phones with 1500 talk minutes & texts & data and a 1 year activation per bundle. I got a Samsung Tracfone.

I have about 70 talk hours accrued from rolled over minutes over the years. Yet, who talks on phones anymore? I mostly use my phones for texting and Internet/data. And my newest phone that I got a few months ago now has WiFi calling, so I won't be dipping into those Tracfone talk minutes much. I simply add a 8GB data card every couple months for $40 and I'm good to go.

My mom is a fan of HSN and she has bought a few items for our house from there and I can say each morning we would see what the daily Deal Of The Day special that HSN had that day which always seemed to be clothing and rarely electronics and other things. It seems that HSN tends to make a lot of money from clothing and jewelry sales because that's all I ever see on there when I watch it. QVC was my mom's favorite channel because in my eyes they were better and every Christmas my mother and I would watch the toy shows to get an idea of what I wanted for Christmas when I was a little girl and I do remember having a crush on one of the QVC hosts because he was so funny at times and I believe his name was Steve Bryant and he was so fun. And BrianL I do remember when QVC sold comic book collectibles because EVERY single time QVC would have a comic book collectibles show Dad would tape EVERY episode that came on and I never knew why Dad was obsessed with comic book collectibles shows but Mom and I have about two tapes full of comic book collectibles shows and Dad never wanted to part with them so we kept them and still have them today

I used to work in a position where we had to go into clients homes, and more than a handful of times I’ve been to houses filled to the brim with items from QVC, (HSN, etc) where they are so packed full of boxes of unopened items that they are almost literally lost in them. Quite frightening and hazardous to try to work in. There was definitely a type of person who is drawn to this, and it’s shopping addiction enabling for sure.

More than once I was gifted some unopened tv shopping box that was nearby the client as a “tip” I supposed. I always found that to be quite amusing. The last time I can remember was a humidifier with scented discs and music or something thinking about it makes me laugh.

I never have, but most of that "As Seen on TV" stuff makes it to stores anyway.

QVC often sold stuff I didn't care for, and I'd only see the content when flipping channels.

One time I was surprised to see the blonde guy from Evil Dead 2 hosting!

I have purchased items from QVC and HSN. I do have auto-delivery for Supersmile Toothpaste. I got it eons ago before it became wildly available, and I am so happy I have it. I pay over half off the price versus Ulta. Granted, I have been using it for years, so I was locked in on that price point long ago.

I do agree Shipping and Handling charges are way too high. But then Amazon has ruined me for shipping costs. I will search high and low for discount/coupon codes for free shipping on any website.

Never infomercials or HSN, but I have bought items from QVC. I’ve bought a few food items over the last few years, they everything sound so delicious, lol. There’s no shipping charge for food items. Some bake at home bread & microwave popcorn we didn’t like. But I bought some Corky’s ribs that are pretty good. My sister buys from QVC a lot more than I do. She has some meat or seafood items she likes a lot. She has them on autodelivery which locks in the price for a year but she can cancel skip a delivery if she wants. It’s just her so she likes that everything is individually packaged & easy for her to use.

In the late 90s I bought one of those 4 CD sets through a commercial. Not really worth it but that was before you could find some of that stuff in stores. I think it was a 1960s compilation.

I could kind of see it for someone living alone, who just want to heat up one (steak, fish filet, chicken breast), or live really remotely. But, the prices are so high! For amusement--I'm a math nerd--I calculate the cost per pound, it's typically $10/pound or higher, even for chicken breasts.

But, hey--if it works for your sister, it's all good.

We don’t live remotely either, our stores have good meats & seafood too. She only buys when it’s a special, so the prices are reduced. And no shipping charge on food. She reasons it vs what she’d pay for that dinner at a restaurant, not the uncooked store item. Probably not the best way to look at it. She spent years living with & caring for our parents while working full time as an RN. She does a lot for her kids & grandkids & hardly ever does anything for herself. Shopping on QVC seems to be her 1 hobby. And even with that, she’s always passing some out to the rest of the family…. “You’ve got to try this” etc. But, it makes her happy.

I bought two or three times from QVC. My mother bought at least a hundred things. After she died I found about a dozen unopened QVC/HSN packages in her closet.

In college I had a part time job as an order taker for items sold on TV. “Operators are standing by.” K-tel albums, Pocket Fisherman, Ginzu knives and the like.

LOL, Pocket fisherman??!!! I remember that one. What a joke. We used to give it as a gag gift in our family every year. You never knew who got the silly pocketfisherman! We had a lot of fun with it.

When QVC first started, I bought a lot of stuff from them. The packages arrived like Amazon does now, LOL. I was in love with capodamonte products. I even bought a silly looking huge goose with cap. roses on it. I have a capodamonte clock which still works, but all the other stuff I've given away. Who knows? Maybe some day it will be worth a lot of money

Thought the same thing. Any type of perishable foods needs expensive express shipping and insulated packaging which would add significantly to the costs. Seems the packaging/shipping would cost more then the already over-priced product. Still see ads for places like Omaha steaks and wonder how that could possibly be better then going to a local grocery store.

My mother used to watch QVC all the damn time. To the point that she knew the life stories of each of the women hawking the stuff (and she knew the schedule by heart). She'd regularly buy stuff that she'd think we could use or would want. DH and I didn't know fear until we started seeing QVC boxes appear on our doorstep.

"What did she buy us now?" Love her dearly, but man, oh man.

I used to buy beautiful high quality flameless candles from QVC & Home Shopping, they were expensive but the battery life was great and they were so pretty. I still have quite a few, the christmas selection was so lovely. The best were pretty tall taper and short votive candles that worked with normal AA or AAA batteries. Then, about 10 years ago or so all the quality and customer service went down the drain, it wasn't even worth it to try items because of the high shipping costs. I can be ripped off for $20 disposable junk at any craft store that lasts a year or two so that's what I shifted to, I miss what it used to be though.
