Ever Bought Add-on w/o Current UY Points from DVC?

What resort did you purchase and what was your UY?

It does depend on what you were purchasing and the UY and when you purchase whether or not you get current points.

I was doing a BWV add-on with my Aug UY.

Sharon

Thanks Sharon,
So they are not giving you August 2006 points? August 2006 is the current UY.
That would be odd, but doable, if they do not have the points to cover or are selling it to you as an Aug 2007 contract.

It does sound odd though, but they may be that short on BWV points that they are not selling 2006 points.

I'd think not getting current use year points on a retail purchase at a 2042 resort would be a deal breaker for most people. I think you should pursue it further or consider canceling and looking resale depending on the # of points.

Thanks, Dean. I ended up buying AKV and taking the developer point incentive. I really believe that resale would be a better solution for me, if there were no 06 points, especially since I was paying cash. I wanted a small contract, but I think TSS has had several in the last month or so that would be acceptable.

Sharon
Long term I think you'll be happier with AKV than BWV from an ownership and value standpoint. The exception might be if you wanted SV or BW view a larger portion of your trip. Personally I love BW and think it has been one of the best values of the system. However, as the RTU gets closer, the cash value will diminish. I own at BWV and plan to sell in a couple of years as part of a downsizing of the points I own. I already have an agreement to sell the current 2042 contract I own. Selling one resort and buying another is rarely a good choice financially but when you're going from 565 to 100 points, it is different.

I kept reading posts of folks that were told if they got their add-on prior to the start of their new UY they would get the 2007 points, so I was surprised when I was told there was an error in telling me originally that I did get the 2006 points. I am thinking about resale now.

While current year points are often offered, they are not guaranteed and are not usually included when Disney's point inventory is low for a particular resort and/or UY.

DH wants some BlueGreen points to stay at Big Cedar, so the next purchase might be money wiser spent on the BG.

Sharon
Just make sure you go resale, about 25% or less of the developer costs. My 72K BG points cost me total less than my 100 pt AKV add on.

Wow! 25% of developer costs, is amazing. I knew they were less, but did not realize they were that much less. I have been looking on ebay and it seems they go around 40 cents or so per point. I almost bought some at BC, but came to my senses on the drive home. However, my dh still laments not getting to stay there. I know this is OT, but are there any good BG resalers (like TSS for DVC)?

Sharon
40¢ per point is about the going rate. Sometimes you can get it lower if you put effort or go for a larger points total. You should know that BG is changing so that resale purchases don't qualify for Silver/Gold Status. I can give you some other suggestions but best to do so by direct contact. Email or PM me if you want.
