Ever been "upgraded"?

In January of this year I was upgraded from a garden view club level room at the Yacht Club to a water view CL room. The view was absolutely amazing and I loved every minute of it. Best trip EVER. :wizard:

We've been upgraded three times. The first was when we got married at the Wedding Pavilion...booked WL standard view, got a courtyard view. Second was also at WL, went from woods view to bunk bed courtyard. The last one...was the BEST EVER! Checked into the Yacht Club to find out we were family of the day. Went from a regular room to a two bedroom suite CL!! We spent more time in that room than in the parks that week, I think!

I wonder what the percentage of customers that get upgrades is and if it varies:

1) by season/month
2) by resort
3) based on the overall economy

We really enjoyed our upgrade. We have only stayed onsite twice and was upgraded once (not including getting the pin for free dining after we had already booked, sort of an upgrade)

I was only upgraded once and it was a DL, not WDW. I had a standard room at Paradise Pier and was upgraded to a suite. I was there for the inaugural Disneyland half marathon so it was September 2006.

We booked garden view at the Polynesian and were upgraded to castle view. :cloud9:

That was once though, but we don't stay onsite that often. It was a split stay between Saratoga and the Poly, short too, so that was probably why.

The other time we stayed onsite it was in a cabin, no real room to upgrade there, but it definitely was a very enjoyable stay.

Wow!!! Not exactly a surprize upgrade, but during the second year of DCL they offered a hotel upgrade for the the Disney World portion of the the 3 day sailing/ 4 night resort portion of the package. Instead of a moderate, they offered us GF. We were in seventh heaven!

In Sept 2008, my BF and I were booked at the BC, standard view with a discount code. When booking over the phone the CM asked the reason we were traveling and I mentioned it was my birthday (don't know if this had anything to do with it) When we got off the ME a cm came out and greeted us by name and told us to follow him, we had been upgraded to club level! it was a great treat! This was the year of a million dreams so it might have had something to do with that but they didn't mention it.

We have been upgraded in the past at the Wilderness Lodge we got a Courtyard view from a standard.

Now let me tell you what happened this past June 2011
We are DVC members and stay at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. We got in early and knew our room would not be ready and we were ok with that. We checked in and went to Downtown Disney to eat lunch and shop a little. We had a one bedroom reserved at the villas. My wife left her cell # so we could get a page when our room was ready. While we were at Earl Of Sandwich she must have missed the call. We walk out and she checks her phone and calls the number back. It was the front desk at the Lodge telling us we have an offer for you. We would like to move you to the Yellowstone Suite at the lodge instead of the villas. Well that ended shopping for today. We headed back to the front desk and they took our keys and gave us gold keys and brought us to our room. We got full access to concierge and everything. We hardly left the room…. Hahaha it was great. We have no idea why we got the upgrade but we were not going to ask to many questions.
We had always dreamed of staying in that suite and it made it a trip we will never forget.

I have been extremely fortunate.
Booked standard room at CBR - when I got to the room it was waterview in a preferred building.
Booked standard room at POFQ - when we got to room it was waterview with a king bed (however it was on our ressie that it was our 25th anniversary, so that may have been the reason:-)
I don't expect upgrades but it's a very pleasant surprise when it happens.

It is fun to read about these surprises. I'm also curious what the reason for an upgrade is. Maybe it's like getting a pin code--you don't know exactly why?

We were upgraded at AKL last week from a standard view to a savannah view with bunk beds, it was incredible! I never asked for it nor expected it, but it was a wonderful surprise. Of course now they have us hooked and we will be back which was probably their intention all along!

Upgrades might appear to be 'pixie dust' for the guest, but they're done because of the resort's operational needs. For some reason, the resort needs to use the room that would have been assigned to you, so they've got to put you somewhere else. Putting a guest in a lower room category than they booked is obviously not the preferred choice, so the guest gets 'bumped' to a higher category room.

It's really just a matter of luck - being in the right place at the right time.

Didn't do the on-line check in for the CBR, but did last year for the POFQ. I like to think it's just the luck of the draw.

Did any of you that were upgraded do the on line check in?

We did online check in 10 days before we arrived, and got to AKL around 10 am, we weren't even expecting our room to be ready yet, but it was AND it was upgraded.

One really has nothing to do with the other. If the resort has a need to move you out of the room you would have been placed in, you may get an upgrade. It's about the room type and your dates of stay.
