Has anyone ever been to rope-drop at Magic Kingdom? What was your experience like? I haven't heard much about it on these boards and I was wondering if there are any interesting experiences out there.

the rope drop is rather anti-climatical. Before the turnstiles are open, one of the trains pulls into the station and all the characters are on it. They welcome us all to the park and then the turnstiles open. Main Street is open for about an half hour before the ropes to the "lands" drop.

It is really anti-climatical if you are an early entry onsite resort guest and are near the back when it happens:)

I guess I had heard that they pick a child to "open" the park for the day. It sounds so sweet. I was there once and the right side was about 20 seconds faster than my side. Well, the people on my side started complaining that they weren't getting in, while this poor little girl was losing out on her magic moment.

I was hoping someone out there had a better experience. Maybe for this trip we'll sleep in.

I was gonna say that too and thought I'd refrain:D :D :D :D :D

The actual rope drop at Mk is basically having "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" play over the intercom as they drop the ropes at all the bridges around the Hub. The Magic Kingdom Welcome show they do at the Train Station before they allow people to enter the park is much more entertaining and sets a great tone for the rest of the visit to Mk. They do that about 10 - 15 minutes before the park opens. I think they let a family help with the Welcome show at the Train Station before Mickey and the gang arrive on the Train.

Uh...... it is a rope and they drop it. End of story.

It can be quite dangerous though. In 2001 a grown man literally ran over top of my granddaughter trying to get to the Dumbo ride!

My DS got to open the MK on his first visit there and it was very magical. We were there about 30 minutes early during non-ealy entry time and got into a great conversation with a wonderful CM. He asked DS if he could help him open the park. We got to go ahead through the turnstiles and waited inside the park. All the characters came over to meet him and when he said his faviorite was Donald Duck, they got on the radio and called him to come over. DS got this cool wand to wave and them they walked with us down main street so no one could pass us and we were first at the turn toward space mountain, our 1st goal of the day. It was great. He also got to open Toon-town once and got a personal tour of Mickey's house by Mickey himself. Never seen anything much special at Epcot or MGM and we try to get a early Ps for Donald's at AK so we don't see that one. We do find getting there early and at the front of the line is a wonderful time to get to gab with great CM's.

My son was selected to open Fantasyland on the morning of his sixth birthday...it was a real magical moment for all of us:-) He waved a flag and shouted some magic words and opened dropped the rope. We were able to be the first people on the Dumbo ride and he was given a pass that allowed him to pass to the front of the line one time on one ride in Fantasyland any time that day. We have great pictures of him, the cm, and the characters from this morning.
