Events that conspired to make me look like a witch at the drive-thru..

So I got told off this morning by the girl at the local drive-thru. Here's what happened.

I pulled up the the order thingy and her voice was so muffled/distorted that I could hardly understand her at first. This seemed to annoy her.

I ordered "a dozen donuts, 4 double-chocolate and the rest just whatever assortment you want." She replies that they only have 2 double-chocolate so I say "that is fine". I order coffees as well and pull ahead.

I check my donut order when she hands me the box and there are no double chocolate. Seems she thought "that is fine" meant, forget the double chocolate but to me it meant, fine give me the two you have. Okay no problem she gives me the donuts.

Then she gives me my change, including a 10-dollar-bill that is so mangled, folded and about 3/4 severed in half that I thought it would probably never be accepted at another store. So I asked if I could have another one. She gave it to me.

Then she shorted me a coffee, and when I pointed out that I was still waiting for one, she rolled her eyes and gave it to me.

Now I promise I was not snarky through any of this, I was not ticked off or acting mean or condescending or anything like that.

I smiled and wished her a Merry Christmas and as I left I heard her say, "Merry Christmas to you too, you ******* *****."

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I think if you are so offended by someone asking for what they paid for in a kind and respectful way then you are not cut out for working with the public. I mean, I only wanted my dang donuts, my dang coffee, and a 10-dollar bill that doesn't look like an origami project gone terribly wrong.

Should I go in to the manager and report her, do you think? Was it my fault and I should cut her a break?

I am a nice person and have never been called something like that before (sisters-in-law and a DIS thread about the name Hunter don't count, lol)

Personally, I would have parked the car right after I heard the cussing and gone in to speak directly to a manager.

At the very least, call the manager. Businesses can't improve customer service if they aren't aware of the poor service you received.

 Call the restaurant and tell the manager, then call the headquarters. That is unacceptable, there was no reason for her to call you or anyone that, especially a customer. People today...

::yes::

This is what I would do. Let us know what happens, I love a bit of gossip:confused3 ;)

:sad2: I've noticed that if you ask for anything differently, it completely messes up the employees at fast food places around here....at Wendy's I asked for a hamburger with no mayo and no cheese. Got it with cheese, so I brought it back in. The woman hands me a hamburger with mayo. I said "no cheese and no mayo, please", and she says "Oh, this job is so HARD!!" :upsidedow
I'd have probably gone inside and complained as well.

:rotfl: :rotfl2: "Oh, this job is so HARD!!" This had me laughing out loud! Makes one wonder how she makes it through life!

I would start with the manager then work my way up. District management, corperate, the owner. Who's ever name you can get should be getting a call or letter. There is no excuse or reason for her attitude.

I would definitely call and complain. Just explain what happened, and say it took you by suprise. There's no call for ANYONE talking to you like that, especially someone being PAID to wait on you. Merry Christmas!

I would have done exactly the same thing. Held my tongue through all of her BS until I got exactly what I wanted and then told her that I was sorry, [her name] that this job was so difficult for her, and then to have a merry Xmas *********** ************. [My stars may be a little nastier than what you said].
I'd totally call the manager, too and expalin that [her name] was taking her personal incompetence out on a customer and giving me attitude on top of it, and it really ruined your morning.

Definately complain! That girl should be fired! You never, never, never, cuss at a customer! Sounds like she needs to learn a life lesson.

Whether you were mean or nice to her, a customer should never be treated that way, she is representing the company she works for. Definitely report her.

The best way to avoid being annoyed at a coffee shop drive through is to go into the store if you have any special requests (ie 4 double chocolate donuts etc.) Now i'm not saying that the girl was justified in using the language my mind has filled into the blanks but I can imagine that the people in the drive thru behind you may have been thinking similar thoughts... Drive-thrus are for "1 large coffee please" or "I'll have a #5 combo please". And maybe someone in the store ordered the chocolate donuts before your order was filled.

definitely call the store and speak with the restaurant manager. not just a manager. i run a restaurant and most of my managers are under the age of 21
even my assistant is only 21. in this industry that is the average. and quite frankly, they won't care. now, if you talk to a unit manager he/she will care greatly. but that is what we are paid for. on the other hand, please do not yell at said manager. also, only complain to one person. not the entire chain. tthere is no quicker way to tick me off than to complain to me, i take care of ssaid problem. then find out that you also complained to half of my bosses. there is nothing like getting your butt chewed by 3 different people for a problem you already took care of!

If you plan on ever stopping at this store again in the near future I wouldn't complain in person. All too often the people who are working in some of these joints are only doing it as a requirement of their probation. They have no moral issue with giving you a little extra something in your food and drink.

Oh the horror stories I could tell

that is rather insulting to both me and my crew.

ITA with this. Complex/large orders need to be done inside, at the counter.

However, this does NOT excuse her behavior in any way.

I agree, however her order wasn't large and complex. She asked for 4 double chocolates and then an assortment, plus 2 coffees. That isn't complex at all.

I would complain to the district manager for sure as that girl was out of line. She shouldn't be working there any longer as she can't deal with the public. I would have hated to see her response if it was a complex, demanding order! Sheesh.:headache:

I didn't realize that there were "rules" about who was allowed to use the drive-though. To my mind, if the ENTIRE menu is posted at the drive-thru, then the ENTIRE menu is available. It's not just for small/simple orders, it's also a convenience so that people don't have to get out in the cold, so that people with young kids don't have to get the kids out of the car seat, bring them inside, and then buckle them back into the car, etc... And I don't think the order was that complex - how tough is "4 chocolate donuts, the rest an assortment?"
