I'm going to ask this question to all the EVC users out there. My DD(7) is almost legally blind and needs to sit close to things to see them. During the parades we can use the handicap areas for viewing. I wanted to know if it bothers those in EVC's if she/we sits in front of the EVC so that there is more room for others to park. Or should we just sit/stand beside those already there?

Thanks for your opinions.:)

Depending on which parade viewing area will have an effect; especially one where there is a curb compared to one where there is not a curb.

Usually they try to get the wheelchairs and ECVs parked pretty muich wheel to wheel, and it is difficult to get someone in front of them. There might be room for your daughter, but she cannot sit forward of the ropes.

(By the way, I am moving this from disABILITIES Community to the main disABILITIES since it has to do directly with the parks.)

I agree with Cheshire Figment.
I think that the CMs would not want someone to stand in front of an ECV for safety reasons; especially a 7 yr old child, what if the ECV accidentally moved.
I'd probably suggest asking the CM in Guest Relations for suggestions and then also talk with the CMs at the individual handicapped viewing area at the time.

Thanks guys for your insight! I really appreciate it.:goodvibes

FWIW, I usually sit in front of DW's WC in the HC viewing areas. Now, I'm not 7, (six foot, 250lbs, slightly older than my teeth:rolleyes1 ), but I've never encountered a problem.

As Chesire said, stay behind the ropes, and as Sue said, talk to the CM's.

:thumbsup2

As a power wheelcahir user I would happily allow your daughter sit in front of my chair and even use my foot plate as a seat. I am sure I could see over her. I don't know about others though.

I would register at the town hall for disabilty for visual impairment and find out what there is to accomadate your day in the park. Especially parade watching. I am sure a CM would know how to address where they would place a visual limited child. THey must have thought this out, as in hearing impaired,

Hi!

I have been asked once or twice in the past if it would be OK for a person to sit in front of my scooter and that was OK with me as long as the people that I was with had their spots, as sometimes my son sits in front of me.

Generally, I would say to ask... Most probably would be OK with it as long as there was enough room in front of the scooter or chair and the person will stay seated.

I have had persons try to stand in front of me but generally the CMs are right on top of that one!

Take care and enjoy!

Thanks everyone!! I thought that would be the answer but didn't want to be the one making everyone mad!!:rotfl2:

I figure most of us DISers are pretty easy to get along with when it comes to sharing the magic with everyone!
