evan's wish trip report, snow white, dumbo, and heat!

I love the Snow White cottage!!! So glad they were able to put you there. Looking forward to hearing more.

Hey gang!!!

long story short, my internet has been down for several days:mad: it was driving me nuts and finally last night between grump and i, we got it fixed!

thanks for reading along on our trip. i am glad you liked it so far:lovestruc the dream village was really neat! i will post more about the village and sunshine foundation on the day 3 page, since it has a lot to do with the race we helped at on saturday:)

sooo....here goes with day 2...it was a hot one!!!!!!

We got up pretty early on friday...who am i kidding, evan is always up early and i was pretty excited to be up myself:)

we got all ready and dressed at the village. we decided to sport our ADORABLE royal wear! evan was dressed like a prince. i wore the snow white shirt and hairband that gran and i made. grump had a mickey prince charming shirt and gran had a minnie cinderella. a super sweet friend also sent me a minnie snow white shirt, but i packed it to change into after cinderella's royal table.;)

ev was pretty excited, but i am not sure he believed me when i told him we were really going to see snow white and bickey bouse...we have been talking about it for so long!

back into the super awesome van for the 15 minute drive to WDW. we brought evan's handicapped placard from home and were directed to an HC parking lot very near the TTC. after unloading and double checking our bags, we boarded the monorail towards MK. we got the special wheelchair car...sweet!!!

waitingtogetin2small.jpg

this is ev, grump and i waiting on the monorail...

ev was thrilled to ride the "train". he got even more excited when we headed toward the castle!

so here is where i have to tell a story on myself. as much as i like to be prepared, and as much of a perfectionist as i am...i had double, and even triple checked all out supplies before we headed to the park. sunshine foundation gave us 9 single day, single park paper tickets. i though the safest thing to do, so we wouldn't lose them, was to only take the 3 for the day and leave the rest...good idea, EXCEPT...i didn't realize there was a difference between kids tickets and adults (i had never been there with a kid). so when we got to the turnstile, the lady let us in and then told us we had to go back because i gave her 3 child's tickets!!!!

i was so upset, but gran said we would just pay to upgrade, and so we walked over to guest relations. i explained my goof up to patti (nearly in tears) and she started to do some things on the computer. she did look at the sunshine foundation letter i brought to get a GAC. she handed us back the tickets, and when i asked how much, she just waved s off. she also gave evan a red GAC card and a button. she chatted with him a good little while too. i was so relieved!:cloud9:

we headed over to watch the good morning show (one of my favorite parts of the magic kingdom...you need to watch if you never have!!) evan was up on grumps shoulders and was happy watching the mayor and the dancers...but then that train came!!!!!
waitingtogetin5small.jpg

he was already starstruck!
he saw bickey and snow white and squealed so loud it hurt our ears! we were ready to hit the park!

evan was pretty blown away by all the stuff that was going on when the park opened. he was acting up a little because he just wanted to get to something fun...and it was already hot. so, i am embarassed to say that we did not get the obligatory picture in front of the castle that day...we DID get one, just not that day! ;)

instead, we stopped to get hats at the chapeau and then headed towards crt to eat. i forgot to mention, that the night before our trip, my friend carla, who happens to be the PTO president at ev's school came up and told me she had a thank you gift for me single handedly doing the school yearbook. turns out, the teachers and staff put some money in an envelope for evan to take on his trip. what a blessing! i decided that would be the money we would use if we were able to add gran and grump onto our CRT reservation.

we stopped at the little stand and i talked to a lovely girl named brittany, who said she may be able to do a little magic and add 2 to our reservation. but we were a little early, so, we went to ride small world and then came back:)

we walked right onto small world with a really sweet gal who gave us the skinny on the best place to watch the parade from a wheelchair (which happened to be in front of the christmas shop in liberty square...it was really good!

ev really liked small world. he was sort of in awe. he just kept pointing at things...he noticed everything!!! so glad we did that one first!!

LeAnn - you must have felt totally crazed!!! Thank goodness they pixie dusted you guys - so sweet!!

Ev looks ADORABLE on Grumps shoulders - need more pictures!!!:goodvibes

after small world, we headed back over to the castle and talked to a real sweet lady, phyllis, who added gran and grump to our ADR! she was actually in love with the fantastic minnie tote i had. i even wrote down the place i got it, because she said she would love to have one!

we waited a few minutes and then headed into the waiting area for cinderella photos. somehow, we were first in line, and we struck up a conversation with the royal photographer brett. he was so nice and sweet and funny with evan. asked him all kinds of questions and played games with him. he heard all about how evan was in love with snow white. he took lots of pictures of evan just hanging out. they weren't on photopass, so i am guessing they were for the castle show.

anywhoo, cinderella came in, and brett introduced us to her. he of course, told cinderella that evan was there to see snow white! she was quite lovely and told him he was a very charming prince when he kissed her hand!

crtcinderella3small.jpg

ev and i with cinderella...here is the snow white shirt i promised:)

and as for brett, he was so sweet that he even stopped at our table upstairs to tell us that he spoke to snow white and told her how excited evan was to meet her...which i think is true because she told us the same thing when we met her!! how magical:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

by the time we got upstairs, ev was starting to get really grumpy from the heat and being hungry. he was still complaining about his ears a little bit. i was REALLY glad gran and grump were there to help:lovestruc

i was also bummed i did not bring my good camera. the way our table faced, the light made a really big glow on alot of the pics, and the camera wasn't fast enough, so some image were blurry.:sad2: but i managed to get some okay ones...

our server was very sweet. she offered us some yummy sounding breakfasts. gran and i chose stuffed frenchtoast. i asked for mine without strawberries because i am allergic. grump asked for eggs and bacon, etc. we also had some yummy fruit and pastry on the table. we all got some fresh orange juice that was delish!

in a few minutes, a chef came out and asked about allergies!! i told him evan and i both were allergic to strawberries, but no biggie. he told me he would make my toast without them and asked if we wanted a fruit bowl withou them. i told him it was fine, but lady stacy came out with one anyway...it was nice!

i learned that snow white was a very valuable bribe in getting my sweet prince to eat...he did very well once he got started eating. and can i just say that my food was YUMMY!?!? i mean, really, really good. i cleaned my plate, which i never do!

while all this was going on, some really important people were coming into the dining room!!!

Evan's mood started to change when he saw princesses start coming out! he squeled SOOOO loud when snow white came out! i am pretty sure he busted my eardrum:scared1:

it was torture for him to watch them walk around and wait his turn, but he did pretty well, and it was worth it!!

snow white was first! i wasn't sure what he would do...he was actually speechless!!! he just smiled from one side of his face to the other and kept looking at her and then at me...it was like he didn't know if she was real! it was priceless...i got a little teary! she talked to him for a long time and told him where he could sit in the parade so she could see him. she signed his book and at the end, she gave him a kiss on the head, like a dwarf!!! he was SO, SO, SO happy:love::love::love:

crtsnowwhite14small.jpg

he is so twitterpated he can't speak!

:love:this look says it all!!!:love::love:

i don't think much could have beaten meeting snow white in evan's book, but he was really happy to meet the other princesses too. they were all super sweet to him...especially belle and aurora:lovestruc

one thing that really surprised me was how into the autograph book evan was! i wasn't sure he would care, but since he got the first one, from snow white, he wanted EVERYONE to sign and he would hold it up to them himself. he even asked for the book later in the day when we saw donald duck!

here are some of the pics that turned out well from the princesses!

crtbellesmall.jpg

he told belle how much he likes to read.

crtaurora8small.jpg

funny story...gran thought this was sleeping beauty. she was thouroughly confused when she signed ev's book "aurora"

crtarielsmall.jpg

ariel was the least talkative, but she was really pretty!

i am pretty sure i told you all that there was recrd breaking heat while we were in orlando. it was awful. 95 by 11am:eek: and evan does not do well in the heat. so it was not exactly as adventure packed as i may have originally planned.

we stopped downstairs at the castle and used the companion restroom (which is a FABULOUS thing, by the way) and changed into some really spiffy mickey tie dye shirts a friend made us. they were so cute...ev was rocking it:thumbsup2

we had to do a lot of ride, break, ride, break throughout the morning. but evan got to do philharmagic, country bears, haunted mansion, and some other i am sure i am forgetting. he liked everything, especially country bears, which is one of gran's faves:)

at the end of haunted mansion, we got one of the squirt bottle/fan things. ev carried it around in his chair with it right in his face most ot the day...it was that hot:sad2:

we did see some characters, woody and jessie (but we missed the line) and DONALD DUCK! donald was really sweet. we got this pic for D`;)

donaldducksmall.jpg

at about 2:30, we made our way over to the wheelchair area in liberty square to watch the parade. not before we went in the christmas shop and ev picked a gift for his teacher (a snowglobe) and some mickey mouse rice krispie bar pops.

we parked it for the parade, and waited, and waited...it was so hot. not much fun at all. we did have some really neat "cool towels" that were in our care package from sunshine foundation. they helped a little, but it was really bad. poor evan was just melting. he was trying to hang in there, but was just so hot:sad2:

he did cheese just enough for me to take what may be my favorite picture from the whole trip...look at him rocking the disney flair!!!

paradesmall.jpg

i will say that the breakfast at crt was a great thing for us...not only was the food yummy, and evan's joy unbelieveable, it so happens that i think because they remembered him from that morning, all the princesses paid secial attention to him at the parade. i am not saying this would work for everyone, but they sure did remember the specatacled little boy in the wheelchair:)

cinderella made a heart and said "i love you evan", and belle pointed him out to beast! even minnie and mickey threw him some extra special kisses! he loved the parade!!!!

after the parade, we knew he couldn't handle the heat anymore, but we wanted to see the castle forecourt show. we were torn whether to go and then come bakc, but ended up staying for the show. snow white was right in front of us again and blew evan kisses in several parts...he was so happy:love:

after the show, he was asking for the pool, so we went back to the village and swam most of the afternoon. it felt so good to be cool, and evan had a really good time!

we met the deputy sherrif who lives on the grounds of the village and chatted with him and his sons. they recommended a nearby pizza joint and so grump and i went to pick up pizza and we had an early bedtime. it was a really busy, really fun, really hot day:wizard:

awesome job on your TR!!!!!!

Simply FANTASTIC! :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!!

Love the update - so glad Gran and Grump got to share your magical breakfast with you!

i wanted to tell you all now about one of the neatest things we did on our trip, and it had nothing to do with walt disney world!

back in february, maryanne from the sunshine foundation called me and asked if we would be willing to help out with a special fundraising event that was happening for sunshine foundation in may. i told her we would love to...i am all for giving back whenever you can, but i had no idea what a great experience it would be for evan:)

i won't quote you the website for sunshine foundation, but i will tell you in my own words that this organization has been around since the 1970's and their purpose is to make the dreams of seriously ill, chronically ill, and physically challenged children come true. it was started by a philadelphia policeman who helped a sick little boy realize a dream. since a lot of the children dreamed of going to florida and seeing all there is to see there, in 1988, they built the sunshine foundation dream village. it started as 7 different themed cottages. now they have 9 cottages, a main house, a wheelchair accessible pool, playground, and mini golf. each cottage is decorated and maintained by volunteers. i am sure i have metioned this, but almost everyone who works with sunshine foundation is a volunteer:thumbsup2. they have a handful of paid staff, but all the chapters, dream makers, greeters, and such are volunteer! pretty awesome!

the run4dreams is a big fundraising event for the village. it was held on the grounds of the Reunion resort...about 5 minutes from the village. evan was the guest of honor...kind of to help people who donate see the benefit of their kindness.:)

Great report! We live in the Burgh' and will be leaving from Pittsburgh on the 14th of June. Did you have to take any meds with you and did you have any problems going through security? And by the way how cute is Evan?!!! I love when he is looking up at the princess.

we got to the resort and called miss wanda who sent a nice fella named kevin to meet us. he and "aunt lulu" kept an eye on us during the race;)

we got to hang out and mingle with all the runners and folks who had booths set up. there was a dj and we danced some. evan had a good time with that:banana::banana::banana:

the theme of the race was childhood heroes, and folks were dressed up. this family was "super" nice and we eenjoyed talking with lisa, jason, and their kiddos!

race2small.jpg

sam, the sweetheart who met us at the airport was there with her daughter and her friend.

evan got to meet the sunshine foundation mascot, sunny. he thought he was a genuine celebrity, so he got to sign the book too!!

race5small.jpg

evan did a little "hokey pokey" of his own!

race21small.jpg

and he tried to get a break from the heat near the cool waterfall...
race30small.jpg

i got to say a few words about evan and our trip. i was nervous, but i think it went okay:)

and then we got to say "ready, set, go" for the race...
race25small.jpg

when the race was done, evan got to hand out the prizes and everyone was happy to meet him. i am not sure how i don't have any pictures of this...

one really sweet thing was that the girl who won the race for women, her name was christina, came up after the race and asked if evan would like her medal. she said he inspired her and made her want to run harder:lovestruc i got a little teary. hge kissed her hand:thumbsup2

we got all packed up and headed back to the village for a swim!
