I am going to place the part of my question that could be considered a "spoiler" in white text, just in case someone has not been on this ride before.

Ok, of our multiple trips to Universal, the only time ET has been fully functional was 10 years ago. By fully functional I mean, at the beginning, they take your name and punch it into the computer, then at the very end of the ride, ET says eveyones name as he says "bye". Of the later visits, he has just said, "Bye friends". Is the ride currently fully functional? My parents are coming with us this time and I would like for them to experience this neat feature.

Same with me....was just there in May and it was fully functional. Sometimes though, your bike passes ET before he can finish "everything".

Rode this a couple of days ago. It was fully functional with "Humperdink" as my name.

It worked fine in June. I think that you can sometimes miss your name if the names are too long though.

When we were there, he mumbled. Couldn't understand what he was saying, even though the names we gave were not complicated.

The only time I've heard him say "friend" was when the name is very hard to pronounce like Rumplestilskin (don't ask).

Now that the thread is spoiled for newbies LOL!!!!!!:thumbsup2

The ride's been around awhile so I wouldn't worry too much about spoilers. :rotfl:
Now for real spoilers did you know that Anthony Perkins is his own mother in Psycho? :scared1:

:cool1:

One time, my friend Quinisha told the girl at the computer her name.. and the TM just turned the monitor towards us and was like "Yeah, no, look.. we got Quincy?" :rotfl: And both our last names are Jones so for the rest of the trip I was like.."Quincy Jones, ladies & gentlemen!"

HaHa, we too couldn't resist putting in silly names! :rotfl:

Surely the fully functional ending is what this ride is all about?

Previous poster is right - name has to be in their database of names. You can't make up something that isn't a name. My son's name is Caden and that wasn't in their computer. I had to pick from chioces they gave me and went with Aidan - close enough I guess.

Thanks for the replies. No, the problem for us was not a difficult or unknown name. There was no mumbling. Can't get much more common than a name like Robert. All he said was "friends" which included our entire group of bikes. I did not know the names had to be part of the database. Good to know.
